Howdy!

I am getting back into 40K after a 15-year hiatus (into Historicals, although I did do Inquisitor in 54mm).

What clear coat spray do people prefer?

I generally used Krylon Dull Coat for historicals, followed by Testor's Ultra-Flat Matte (the Krylon protects well but is not too dull, and the Testor's is Dull but doesn't protect too well).

When I plainted 40K in the '90s, I used an armory dullcoat, but was never to impressed by it.

What do y'all use?

I am thinking something NOT so dull, as to show off the paint schema, but nothing too gloss.

Thanks for your help!

Ken

I use krylon flat but it still leaves some shine so I will be dusting my models in Testor's dull coat when I get a can. I personally prefer as little shine as possible unless there is a gem or glass of some kind involved but that is what going over the sealer with 'ardcoat is for.

I do the odd thing of coating everything with testor's glosscoat, letting it dry, then coating with Army Builder clear coat. Gives a nice protected finish.

I am a fan of the Painter's Choice satin clear for protection, then a swift kick in the pants with Dullcote.
I am told that blowing over a model with rubbing alcohol through an airbrush also knocks the shine back a touch. I'll be doing that with my Ork vehicles.

Testor's Dullcote. Hit it with a bit of Testor's Glosscote, then Dullcote. If the model has been dipped, I just use dullcote. There really isn't anything better out there that I have found.
