I got the Gold edition in my basket. I went to payment, and then the server had an error so I had to go back... and my basket was empty! Not only that, but the Gold edition was then out of stock. Not happy.

I got on 5 mins before 6pm, kept refreshing and got mine in the basket bang on 6. i then got to payment and it kept tellign me there was a problem processing my payment (at their end I hasten to add). After about 15 attempts to pay and about 10 minutes of frustration I was losing hope, but then I went through and I got my copy. It was definitely a big improvement on last time, though given that last time involved the complete crashing of the site, that is relative. It was still pretty slow and difficult and I'm one of the lucky ones. BL facebook page has gone into meltdown with complaints and abuse.

Edit: Despite the sold out sign, they apprently have copies left and are checking how many orders have actually gone through, more news at 7pm GMT on their FB page. If theu are going to insist on selling books this way, they really do have to get the sytem working better than this.

Check out the comments at the cluster-(expletive deleted) that was the Aurelian sale at Black Library today. I'm glad I didn't try to buy one of these. Shipping was supposed to be free, but apparently there were problems with that on top of the website slowing down considerably and people not being able to check out in time and having their cart emptied without getting a book.

What a mess. I decided not to spend $30 or $50 on what is essentially an overpriced pamphlet. Eventually they'll reprint the story a couple years down the road in a more affordable edition for those who want to read it without spending enough money for a decent dinner out.

I'm surprised they still have copies left for sale now, but just checked and they are still there. So I don't understand why it was such a mess earlier.

I believed I've managed to get a gold copy and reserved was pretty laggy but I managed to get through after 6:08pm.

The only thing that's bugging me, I received an e-mail from Black Library before Aurelian became available, it it stated that because of the special nature of the limited release, delivery costs (along with anything else I ordered would be free. But so far I've been charged £10.00 for delivery.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this?

I've sent them a message to enquire about it, so I'll let you know what I find out.

Last night the website stayed up despite being massively bombarded. Sure it got laggy and flaws appeared. But it stayed up, which is a great improvement on last time they tried to sell Aurelian!

Why did the stock level go up and down?
Over 9,000 of you tried to buy Aurelian within the first 2 minutes. Our warehouse and web site update each other every 10 minutes. In the intervening 8 minutes we were unable to provide an accurate stock level. To prevent overselling and disappointment, we turned the product off. When the update happened, we turned it back on. This level of traffic continued for the following hour and so we repeated the process.

Payment Issue/Card Declined
Due to the volume of orders last night, our banking provider was unable to process all of the transactions. This was not an issue with either our site or your card. Any purchases made from now on should proceed smoothly.

Duplicate Order/Cancelation of order or part thereof
If you have emailed us regarding a refunds or cancelling any part of your order then rest assured we are dealing with it. We hope to process all refunds within the next 24 hours.

Shipping
Shipping is indeed free on all orders containing Aurelian. There was a brief glitch in the system and some of you have been billed for shipping. We will of course be refunding this right away.

To ensure that all of our limited edition novellas reach you in the best possible condition we only ship them via UPS. No other shipping method can be used.

We have already begun shipping some orders. You will receive a shipping confirmation email as soon as your copy has been posted out. That's very nice, but my point that they have no trouble selling out of those books remains valid. One failed transaction doesn't rob them of a sale when people are lining up to toss money at them for a very limited numbers item.

Yeah, I wonder about that myself. I'd rather use my paypal these days. At least they can handle the traffic.

The paypal issue isn't odd really. BL is, like FW, a wholly owned but almost entirely independent susidiary company of GW. The only link they have is some artiistic oversight at the top level, other wise they are entirely responsible for their own running costs and profits. They obviously don't feel it is financially viable to use Paypal, where as GW is a much larger company and does.
