Rumour round up and some new titbits from Harry on Warseer:

OK I think this needs a thread all of its own.

ghost21 has been dropping a few rumours into the Empire thread.
Just to make life a bit easier and so we can focus on this exciting development .... here we go:

Ghost has posted the following:

Expect mini forces from various places,

I realy shouldnt but theres going to be mini armies like allies or sth (not sure on exact wording)

There will be things like a araby one and kislev, also I heard estalia, and oddly some insect kingdom

Dont post rules but lets say a pike is quite hard to use , but you get 3 ranks... spears you get 2 and no "reductions"... fishmen huh ;-).... possible possible

Rodmillard Posted:

Maybe I misread it, but I thought Ghost was talking about a separate allies book with rules for Araby, Kislev, Tilea and the "Insectoids" (sounds alot like what some fans have been suggesting for a DoW replacement). AFAIK it had nothing to do with the forthcoming Empire release except to say that Kislev won't be in there.

In reply Ghost posted

Thats exactly what I meant

Ghost has also posted:

Its an expansion book, im told it wont effect the releases of other armies

Honestly you will see them in wd before book form

I think Chaos dwarves are a Forge world thing for now.

Theres 5 "states" in the book / supplement

Apparently 2 "good" 1 nutural, and 2 "evil ish"

and when you think of fishmen?... there are far more disturbing creatures in the sea than just fish... *cough ithilids cough *

How'd you like them apples?

I tell you what ... I like them just fine.

BRING IT ON! :D

Thanks to Ghost for all of the above.
Hope you don't mind I pulled all your posts together in this way.

I will leave the first post to Ghost as he has been in the chair on this one but here is my take on this:

This has got Vetock written all over it. :D

Mt Vetock also made a random comment to me about Kislev that I posted in the Empire thread that whilst it didn't make much sense to me at the time makes perfect sense in this context.

Loved the little Kislev contingent army book.

This takes me right back to the 2nd edition contingent rules.

I saw some fantastic concept art from the Blanchitsu of some fantasy pirates so I wouldn't bet against pirates being a contingent.

I have also seen a concept sketch for an 'Ichthyus sapien' from Mr Blanche ... He showed it to me over a year ago ... I thought he had shown it to me just to yank my chain ... but now I'm not so sure.

I have to say I do hope it is so ... cos it was £!*%$!^& cool. :D

Picking up on What Ghost said. Something else makes sense now...I can see them releasing each of these contingents one at a time as White Dwarf articles. Spread over several months and then pulling them together into a book at the end. (OR even little mini contingent books free with WD like the Kislev book).

For me .... a supplement like this would be a dream come true. This is right up my street.
I also already have small contingents of Estallians, Araby and Kislev just waiting in the wings. Waiting to be expanded.

So by all means ....

BRING IT ON! :D

Super excited personally.

Ghost21 says Kislev has old sculpts with new horses too. Oh and the insect people might not be evil.

This could definitely be interesting, if they make it such that you can add units to an army like SoM then it could be very nice for some races.

That seems to be the general idea.:) Instead of scrolls of binding you have 'mercenary contracts or something (I just made that up, it isn't a rumour:rolleyes:) which lets you hire a character or unit or what have you.

theres a cool araby wizard with harem guards planned, looks really cool (female guards, big scimitar swords)

each " contingent " has 3-4 units, 1-2 characters

theres also djin(look at Araby dread fleet ship for inspiration)

they will probably appear in wd first.. i know that the planed book has 5 (planned) but they want to test the waters first

araby are kinda odd they can be good and evil but there not the nutural race(i said evil ish)

I'll be in my bunk.

I'll be interested to see how the rules work. I really liked the Dogs of War stuff, my only concern was that they had units that filled every battlefield role and most people could take them, so you could use them to fill in deliberate design 'holes' in your own army which lead to some really beardy army lists that not only overode the ethos of your amy, but made them very difficult to play against. Anyone fancy adding cannons to your lizardmen or heavy cavalry to your Dwarfs? Then DoW was for you. Hopefully these will be thematic armies, rather than just 'here's one of everything for everyone, have fun'.

I found that the original dogs of war, the Regiments of Renown, were pretty balanced.
They were limited to certain armies, and you have to pay through the teeth to hire them.

It was when they became a standard army that it became unbalanced. When you had to pay 210 points to get 5 members of "Fancypants McHeavycavalry's Armoured Horsemen" it was fine (even if the additional members were costed pretty good, the initial core buy-in was very costly). When you could later get normal heavy cav for 24 points a guy, it became too much of an easy choice.

Yea, this would be my worry with this type of thing, if they are over costed and characterful they could be a very nice addition to an army, if they are similar to units form other armies in points and ability then they could severely unbalance the game. It will be good though if they release it in white dwarf, even if the rule aren't perfect then at least it adds to WD and gives a good chance to test units and ideas. It could also be a good way for them to fix or add to armies in the future which would be very nice.

With DoW, you took them as rare choices, which would actually work better now there is a points cap on your rare allowance, but I still would be wary of having them as avilable in ordinary games. The best way to do it would be like SoM. You decide beforehand that your are going to play an allies game and you get an extra 25% points allowance to spend on allies. That way you can't take them as part of normal game and it is balanced fien as both players will be taking. Much like how the sorcerous pacts work in SoM.

If they do come, it would men absolutely nothing to me, being a Wood Elf player!
But still, it is an interesting movie for GW, perhaps in line with their recent actions with CoD, SoB and Vampire Counts by supplementing the rules in White Dwarf issues again...

from what ive been told fw got the green light on expanding cd

snakemen and 1 other ind related will be handled by fw as will fimiir

the ice wizard.. or should i say witch (its not Katerina) is on foot

So FW will be doing some kind of Ind themed release, very nifty. Kislev Ice Witch ftw also.

I was hoping for a sexy new update of my favourite Ice Queen, guess I'll have to make do with my old model then.

Any more news on my beloved Kislevites? I'm so excited about this I've started dusting off models and thinking of colour schemes.

Hastings, one of the reliable rumourmongers on Warseer, says he hasn't heard anything about these rules and models. Which is not conclusive but certainly worrying.

Another 'summer of flyers' incident perhaps?

*slowly puts Kislevites away*
Ah well, nevermind. A shame, really. I was kinda looking forward to starting 8th edition.

Well caution is always warranted, but Harry hit the nail on the head:

Let me just say this.

When I heard boats coming ghost was the first person to post anything about it
He didn't know details but he knew about it. He had seen? heard? stuff at a very early stage in the games development.
This was before hastings knew about it.

Nattreehouse may only have 7 posts but his first posts were to bring us the detail of what Dread Fleet was about. He was the first person to nail this before I knew what it was all about. Check back on his posts.
However he did not start to post until very close to release.
Could be he only has a short window ... could be he is a loyal GW fan. (Theres a lot of this about. :D)

Hastings is right 99.9% of the time. He is the Jedi master of rumours. He is rumour Yoda. I trust his posts above all others.
When he says something is happening ... it almost always happens.
When he says something isn't happening ... it almost never does.

Not sure where that leaves us. :D

Is it possible that this is a blind spot for hastings Natreehouse and me? .... YES
Is it possible ghost has seen/heard about this at such an early stage of development than none of the rest of us know anything about it? .... YES!

(Although the level of detail in ghosts posts has started to worry me. Normally with rumours ... if one person knows this much detail somebody else knows something. :shifty:)

Is it coming any time soon? .... NOT A CHANCE!

Am I still excited at the possibilities ..... YOU BET YA!

From Saint Harry, Patron Saint of Rumours and Piemakers:

Before this thread becomes total b@ll@x. :D

I just heard a solid bit of info that backs up some of what the ghost man has been saying.

BRING IT ON! :D

And again, Dr. Lady Eldargal, you have made me interested in 8th edition. Thank you.
