I wouldn't read too much into it.
Some of those rumours have been taking out of context (mostly Harry's).
Personally, Vampires were done too recently and have too many up-to-date mini's to be worth re-releasing a new book (you'd get zombies and black-knights, that's pretty much it).
I'd call it now that High/Dark Elves will likely be done before Vampires (both would make a ton of money off new core boxes).

What about the books that really need doing, like Brets and WE? Bah, I'm not happy if this is accurate.

Brets, WE, Empire and Dwarfs I think are in need of an update before VC even gets a look in. HE I think are way off.
I do love this guys blog though, updates usually daily and a good read.

While I'd prefer to see Brets, WE, or even Empire rewritten before the Vamps, I do think it's possible that VC is right around the corner. Their current book is incredibly strong, and I think the Storm of Magic campaign proved just that. GW might be trying to balance out the best and least performing books.
Still, here's hoping for Brets or Empire first. I need a "good" army to play in fantasy and I really don't want to go with High Elves.

The problem is no one is sure whether we are dealing with books or waves. VC might be getting another book soon, or it might just be another wave. Conversely Empire may be getting another book soon, but it may be after a VC wave but before their book or vice versa.

Direct from Harry on Warseer:
Old thread got shelved ... for going off topic.
So I have started a new one ... because as far as I know Vampire Counts are the next thing for fantasy.
I will start it again with Huan Qu'itts excellent summary of all the scraps so far with some added bits:

and from Frgt/10
Heard about this a while ago but wasn't sure what to make of it. Seems there might be something to it though:
The next army to go on stock rundown in GW stores is Vampires.
This is before things like Empire which some people have been whispering about as well; so my money would be on the toothy ones being released first.
A summary of the rumours so far:
- VC are next army book to be released (Harry, 75hastings69 Frgt/10), in january (ihavetoomuchminis)
- new unit "flesh golems" - something like a mix of large ghoul and zombie with a lot of stitches (Harry, 75hastings69, ihavetoomuchminis) with something no monsterous infantry has had before (ihavetoomuchminis)
- new plastic black coach mini (Harry), dual kit (ihavetoomuchminis, Harry)
- new krell and female vampire minis (75hastings69)
- and some old rumour concerning new plastic black knights - (Riders confirmed by Harry but not "black knights").
Thanks to Huan Qu'itts for pulling all this together.
Some bits from me. The 'black coach kit' is not a straight replacement (like say the steam tank was for the Empire) and it is a dual kit. Also, we do get riders ... but they are not a straight replacement for the black knights either.
BRING IT ON! :D
So VC are the next book, nevermind me previous post.:p It makes sense, the last VC book helped break 7th, and currently it is decent but there are like 6 units worth taking in the whole list. You could argue that WE or Bretonnians should come first but I imagine GW wants to shore up better selling armies first.

I still don't buy it.
Harry's post about Vampire, Empire and Dwarves, isn't complete; he later posts that he thinks Vampires was probably the White Dwarf update.
I've never seen GW release a white dwarf update/army book/codex and not wait at least 2 years for the actual book (Blood Angles, Lizardmen, Wood Elves, and now Sisters of battle).
If Vampires are the next army book, then Sisters of Battle will be in Feburary.
Now a third wave release with kits for the Black Coach and mounted knights; I'd believe that.
The Krell rumor; could that have been a mix up with the Warhammer Forge undead releases coming soon...

Hastings is usually very accurate, if he says Krell is on the way, amongst other things, then he probably is. It is true, as I've said before, that VC might just get a few new units in a WD update (I doubt it would be a full book like the SoB got) but so could the Empire. Fact is GW seems to be changing the way they do releases, something Harry rumoured months ago, and we don't know how that is going to pan out.
But I wouldn't dismiss it too lightly.:)

I guess.
Seems odd that of the first 3 army books, 2 could be undead. Does that mean after the Empire, the next army book would be Necromancers (don't laugh, it's been planned a couple of times, but dropped)? Undead could be the Fantasy version of the Space Marine range!
I just really hate the rumour lock-down GW has started.
I mean, many models are started almost two years before release. Most are finished at least 6 months before release, to build stock. The general public finds out less then a week before release.
Anyone else remember the teaser box in the old GW website? The one that that showed up to 3 unlabled images of models that would be released within around 3 months? The company really has no idea about how to build hype anymore.

Well actually Empire and High Elves are the closest to WFB in terms of Marines, in the sense they are the best sellers (apparently, I have it on good authority though) and the 'good guys'. So I wouldn't be surprised if Empire weren't far off. VC though, that is a surprise I admit.
As to the rumour lockdown, write in and tell them. They said at GD Oz, I believe, that if they get enough negative feedback they will make changes to various policies. They won't know if people just complain on internet forums, though.:) I don't care enough to write in, myself. I didn't like it at first but only having to wait a week for my Lhamaeans to arrive was a relief, I'm not sure how I would have coped with three or four weeks.:p

I meant it more along the lines of 1 'faction' getting several seperate books, instead of best sellers. Marines get Codex, Wolves, Dark and Blood Angles, Templars; and undead could get Vampires, Tomb Kings, Necromancers, probably even a 'Sartossia and the Lustrian Coast' army [undead pirates; they already had a white dwarf army list].

I doubt we will see Necromancers, except perhaps in the rumoured allies/mercenaries book. But really it still isn't the same, it would be like comparing Chaos Space Marines getting a Codex and loyalist Marines, Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts hate each other. That whole Nagash thing.:)

The line of thought for a Necromancer army book goes back to the old 4th edition Undead Army book.
The General choices were a Vampire, a Liche or a Master Necromancer (and mummies were a unit of infantry with 2 wounds).
As the editions expanded, undead were broken up into factions; Vampire lore was expanded for Vampire Counts.
The Liche, mummys, skull catapults and chariots were changed into what became Tomb Kings.
The last choice, the Master Necromancer, still lingers in limbo [Nagash, Kemmler/Krell, Arkhan the black, would make great named characters for such an army; they could have slighly different undead, zombies with weapon options, skeletons with a more diverse equipment choices, a grave dirt golem].
It's similar to how they broke down the armies of Chaos between edition (except part of the Undead army was never re-expanded upon).

Oh I know, but from what I understand GW dropped the Necromancer idea as being too generic fantasy. They went with their vision of vampires, the Vampire Counts, and the Tomb Kings, rather than your standard gothic skellingtons, ghouls and necromancer.:)

More rumours:
What I know:
New Black Knights/Some other mounted stuff kit
New Dual Kit makes two war machine things, NEITHER is a Black Coach
Monstrous Infantry Dual Kit
Ghouls up to 10pts
Current Black Coach kit stays and goes finecost
February release.
That is all.
Sounds like it is a book, what with ghoul points.
BUT:
this is all incorrect from what im hearing
I'd go with Frgt/10, very good established track record.

I don't know if this means much, but my FLGS said that GW no longer lists the Vampire Counts Battallion or Army Books in the system. Not just out of stock, but not even in the system. Take it as you will.

IF that happens I"m buying nothing from GW for a very very long time.
Unless of course they take a solid nerf bat to VC...the we can deal, there is so much solid Bull**** in the current book.
There are so many other armies that need updating.

Huh. So they are. Interesting that they told my FLGS that they aren't in the trade order system.

Some more details:
new info on vamps, all appears to be 100% accurate:
- they are coming January (100% now)
- mortis engine/coven throne (unsure if this is final name) - plastic kit. apparently HUGE. we may be talking arachnarok base for this thing...
- wraith riders/black knights - confirmed dual plastic cav kit
- monstrous infantry unit (unsure of name) - plastic kit. has option for wings. adding the wings is probably a unit option and may not be a completely separate unit.
- new finecast krell model
- black coach is indeed getting finecasted (damn Harry being right again :D)
a few of these are just confirmations of info we already have, but at least its more solid.
