Yay comics thread! Just found it.

Anyone else reading Moon Knight by Warren Ellis? If not, do your best to find the last two issues (they've sold out, reprints are coming) and grab the third one that came out last week. Book is so good, Declan Shalvey's art alone is worth buying the book for. Probably the best Marvel book since Hawkeye.

Very much enjoyed the final issue of the DC event Forever Evil which resolves the storyline nicely while dangling a whole load of plot threads that will impact the DCU going forward. Highlight to see or don't if you don't want spoilers:

1. Lex Luthor saves the world! And is apparently a somewhat changed man for having done so. Not only does he save the world, but he saves Superman's life too and has turned over something of a new leaf with regard to hsi formerly ruthless business practices.

2. Lex Luthor now knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman! A logical fallout from the Crime Syndicate unmasking Nightwing and Batman's devotion to rescuing him from their clutches. Be interesting to see how this plays out going forward especially as Luthor is now a member of the Justice League.

3. The Crime Syndicate are defeated, but not gone, or at least the core trio are still around. Ultraman is powerless without any kryptonite to consume and being kept in a sunlight drenched cell. Superwoman is pregnant and in captivity and Owlman is on the loose still. Johnny Quick, Deathstorm, Power Ring, Atomica, Grid and Alexander Luthor are all dead, though Power ring's ring has found itself a new host and I doubt Grid will be gone forever, he's just too good a villain as Cyborg's nemesis.

4. Ted Kord (Blue Beetle II) has been introduced to the New 52 universe. This is a considerably younger Ted than we've seen before and it will be interesting to see what becomes of him.

5. The freaking Anti-Monitor is back! Revealed as the being who destroyed the Crime Syndicate's home world of Earth-3, he has drained that universe of life to power himself up, but still wants more life energy to consume ahead of a planned showdown with Darkseid!

There are a lot of great character moments in this issue and the story as a whole. I'm hopeful that in addition to the TPB of the core mini series that Dc are releasing, they will do a proper Omnibus edition of the storyline to collect together the mini series with the tie-in issues of the 3 Justice League titles. If they do I'll get it for sure.

Also loving the mini Green Lantern Corps in the JL8 strip.

I've only read the Batman 28 preview, heard good things but waiting for TPB. Glad it ended well.

Nearly had a fit the other day when I saw a headline saying Worlds Finest had been cancelled, but it hasn't. Birds of Prey has sadly but it never really took off after a very shaky start. Hoping they relaunch it later with a writer who really gets the BoP.

"What, are we taking everybody?"

- the reason that this line is significant is because Jim Morita was a japanese-american soldier. while it’s never explicitly stated, here’s what morita’s life would have been like before being captured by HYDRA:

december 7, 1942: the empire of japan attacked pearl harbor. he was probably a soldier at this time since he was considered to be elite enough for steve’s squad; unknown where he served, although there were many japanese-american soldiers who died in and who were the first responders to the attack.

december 8, 1942: the us declares a state of war with japan.

all japanese-american men disqualified from the draft via the label “4-C,” or “enemy alien,” no matter their citizenry. all japanese-american men in the service are removed from duty.

february 19, 1942: president roosevelt signed executive order 9066, authorizing the military to exclude certain groups from military zones.

the fbi searched the homes of japanese-americans for “contraband,” including correspondence with anyone in japan such as personal letters. any such contraband is confiscated.
(fun sidenote: how did they know where to find these people so that they could be harassed? well, gosh, the census bureau told them. illegally. no big deal.)
community leaders, including priests, gathered up and sent to prison camps like tule lake. this is also where several families were sent to be deported to japan since they were not deemed loyal enough.

122,000 people of japanese-american descent are told to sell or store their property as they can only bring what they can carry out of the “exclusion zones,” which meant most of the west coast. (hawaii, whose population was about a quarter japanese, was for the most part not included in this.) given only a few weeks to organize their lives, they were then sent via cattle train to concentration camps set up throughout the us.
since morita was from fresno, he would have ended up here:

charming.
sunny poston, arizona. conveniently built on an indian reservation against the wishes of the tribal council, who wanted nothing to do with the government’s white supremacist bull****. why only infringe on the rights and wishes of one minority group, right?

choice quote: ”After fifteen months at Arizona’s vast Poston Relocation Center as a social analyst, Commander Leighton concluded that many an American simply fails to remember that U.S. Japanese are human beings.”

shortly after arriving, all prisoners were asked to fill out a survey. most of the questions would be simple, like their name, city of birth, etc, but questions 27 and 28 were different.

question 27: Are you willing to serve in the armed forces of the United States on combat duty, wherever ordered?
question 28: Will you swear unqualified allegiance to the United States of America and faithfully defend the United States from any and all attacks by foreign and domestic forces, and forswear any form of allegiance or disobedience to the Japanese Emperor, or any other foreign government, power, or organization?

did you answer yes to both? congratulations! you’re a soldier. did you answer no to both? perhaps you’re too old or sick to serve? perhaps the general ****ery of this entire situation got you down? perhaps you were born outside of the us, so you can’t disavow your country of origin since there is a very real chance you’ll be deported? haha well congratulations hope you like prison and/or deportation

so all of this goes on

and then morita goes on to serve

and get captured

and rescued

and dumbass doogan says, “what, are we taking everybody?”

**** you

i’m from fresno

Why representation is important, so stories like this aren't forgotten.

That is encouraging news, here's hoping the series turns out to be good. I can think of a few existing characters that they could fit into it alongside the obvious new ones, such as Stephanie Brown (Spoiler), Cassandra Cain (Black Bat) and Miss Martian, the latter two of whom have been sorely missed since the start of the New 52. Steph is back as of the Batman Eternal weekly series and she's just as awesome as ever in it, though she's yet to create her Spoiler persona as of last weeks issue #12.

In other pro-female news, the ongoing series of Wonder Woman is going to be written by a female writer (Meredith Finch) once Brian Azzarello's run ends later this year, and the writer's husband (David Finch) will be handling the art duties. The new team promises that the title will be more closely tied into the rest of the DCU with a little less emphasis on mythology, which I feel is no bad thing after a few years now of very heavy mythology driven narrative that has had her title (whilst being well written and entertaining) seem something of an odd duck amidst the other Justice League member solo titles. I'd like to see her tangling with some supervillains for a change.

Unfortunately the new Wonder Woman team have already stirred up controvery by trying to downplay WWs feminism. Not in a malicious way just in an ignorant fashion which is discouraging. Also the artist is famous for drawing women like they are children with breasts, it's really creepy and his cover for the first issue with the new team is kind of cheesecakey. So I'm concerned. A lot of people are expecting Supermans absence from the WW solo to end too.

Young Justice i fantastic, it had a bit of a shaky start with one female character introduced in the second episode in a borderline offensive kind of way but it improves so much. It is a disgrace it was cancelled.

It's from an issue of Injustice which is an alternate universe series that acts as a prequel to the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game. Nightcrawler actually came back just recently (February/March timeframe). He appears in the Nightcrawler series (limited I do believe) and Amazing X-Men. Of course, since he is an X-Man he could potentially appear in any of the books but Amazing X-Men is the title where he will appear regularly.

Cover art is amaze, also good that Marvel explicitly and clearly taking about going after women comic book fans now.

Series writer Jason Aaron emphasizes, “This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”

THOR is the latest in the ever-growing and long list of female-centric titles that continues to invite new readers into the Marvel Universe. THOR will be the 8th title to feature a lead female protagonist and aims to speak directly to an audience that long was not the target for super hero comic books in America: women and girls.

This won't be the last we see of "man" Thor. I'm all for this storyline though. It interests me very much. I'm also intrigued by what they do with the original. As we know from Marvels "ever revolving door of death" nobody is gone forever.
This isn't the 1st reinvention of Thor. Beta Bill Ray replaced him as well as a Cyborg Thor called Ragnarok.

Also a frog at one point apparently. But all the others were legitimate and this is The Worst Thing Ever despite happening before according to the fanboys on marvel.com. Old Thor isn't dead, he has been judged unworthy by his own hammer (nothing to be ashamed of, one in five men apparently experience it) so its left him and new Thor picked it up. I doubt it is permanent also, I just hope she gets a good long run and doesn't disappear once it is over.

Ok extra praise to Disney/Marvel over this, they made the initial announcement on The View which is watched by millions of women. That is how you try and engage the female demographic, you be pro-active. Now even if a relatively small number of viewers decide to give it a shot or buy it for their daughters or sons even it could boost sales a lot. It might not work but smart of them to try.

Ok, something im not understanding about thor... new lady is worthy of mjolnir, becomes Thor because old one isnt worthy anymore. Sure, but the writers (i think) say she IS Thor, also cool, but does.that mean Thor isnt the wielder but some sort of entity inside the hammer itself? Since old Thor is no longer (guess we call him thor?) But i assume is still living, does that make Mjolnir some sort of super parasite or symbiote?

No it's not a living entity. The hammer (in marvel lore) was created by dwarves and forged in a dying star. I suggest that those who are worthy of wielding the hammer are then given the title of "Thor". In this storyline at least. Because I can think of a few other marvel heroes who have wielded the hammer and not become "Thor" in other story lines.
Marvel are really quite loose with their lore and it changes to suit the current story line. So in this regard you could be right with your entity theory.

Behold the awesomeness that is Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman!

10167

I think the costume needs a bit more colour and the lasso needs to be gold not silver, though might just be the lighting in this pic that's dulling the palette a bit, but otherwise I'm really happy with this. There's a vocal group of "fans" online that really wanted Gina Carano to get the role. I'm very glad she didn't. Does she look the part, sure. Could she do the part justice with her acting ability? Not a chance in hell. This character has been waiting a very long time for her big screen debut, I would much rather have a decent actress who mostly looks the part play her, than someone who looks the part perfectly and cannot act for toffee. Gal Gadot is signed on a 3 picture deal, presumably for Dawn of Justice, a solo Wonder Woman movie in 2017 and then Justice League in 2018. She'll bulk out more yet due to the training regime she's on.

This would be the same Watchmen where they had a gratuitous extreme close-up of a woman's leg being obliterated by a magnum round? Though I'd be more afraid of them doing the stupid super-slo-mo kill shots like in 300.

I was referring specifically to Man of Steel. He had some good plot and character stuff in there (the bits with Kevin Costner) but didn't have the conviction to develop it properly and the last 45 minutes was basically just wanton destruction of anything and everything. He has some substance as a director, but falls back on mindless action far too easily.

I did.

Flashbacks lacked any kind of visual clue as to the time scale. Whilst what they showed was ultimately interesting, the lack of chronological indictators (say, playing a classic Gameboy on the School Bus. That would have helped) left them quite jarring. Spesh as I felt they just sort of turned up unannounced.

Plot holes everywhere - I mean, SPOILER FOLLOWS, JUST IN CASE!! Zod turns up and is all like 'MY WAY OR HIGHWAY!! GRAARR! And no attempt is made to negotiate. Or say 'hey man, why don't you, me, the codex and that machine go terraform Mars? I'm well up for reviving our own civilisation, innit'. But no. Fighty fighty fightfight WHOOPS GENOCIDE!

I haven't gotten to Man of Steel yet. It never got me excited about seeing it and watching Superman learn to be Superman is just a concept I kind of hate. But, I figure I should see it since a lot of the complaints people have about it are things they love or forgive in other movies, and I suspect it's because every shot I've seen is just a big grey wall. So, movies.

DC v Marvel.

Where is it currently going wrong for DC? I mean, out of their last few films, Dark Knight Rises was cack, Green Lantern? Let's just pretend that didn't happen. Man of Steel? Bit of a mess, and a not very Superman Superman.

Batman Begins and Dark Knight however were ace cakes. Really decent films overall, and showed a new side to Batman from previous.

Marvel? For me, they're yet to put a foot wrong or miss a beat. The films just work for me, and going on their level of success, a lot of other movie fans.

So where are the DC films going wrong? Unfortunately beyond my initial question and statements, I can't say too much as I'm an avowed Marvel fanboi, and although we're normally more than civil down here, I'd rather discuss the question than my opinion.

Anyone care to weigh in?

DC seem obsessed with making Gritty Realism a key focus of their films, playing down the more ridiculous elements inherent in superheroes. Maybe because Green Lantern was a bit more cray-cray and it flopped. Marvel on the other hand are like 'Yeah **** realism, here is a Racoon with a machine gun and a giant tree guy and all kinds of cool stuff, have fun' but despite this there is also some real, genuine depth to the films and characterisation. Where Marvel is going wrong is with diversity. By the time Black Panther comes around there will have been ten MCU films headed by white men named Chris. No female led films and Kevin Feiges reasoning for that has been abysmal. Blaming a system he controls for not letting him slip a few female led films into the lineup.

The secret of comics history that people on the internet don’t want you to know! (http://comicsbeat.com/the-secret-of-comics-history-that-people-on-the-internet-dont-want-you-to-know/)

I was asked not too long ago what was something I was proud of writing on The Beat, and it’s actually something I didn’t write. This post by political communications specialist Brett Schenker entitled Market Research Says 46.67% of Comic Fans are Female from February, was pretty groundbreaking. Why am I mentioning a six month old post? Well, people continue to quote it when they look for demographic information on comics readership, and it represents a solid benchmark in an area where there is shockingly little research. Schenker’s research via Facebook, which he’s graciously presented here, has been quoted in numerous articles and yesterday it was referenced in this Time.Com piece on the new female Thor. I tweeted it again and it got a whole new set of reactions on twitter from people who hadn’t seen it the first time.

...

Girls have always read comics.
They read early newspaper strips. They read early superhero comics. They certainly read romance comics and humor comics in the 40s and 50s and on through the 60s. (Trina Robbins‘s research deiscovered readership statements from the 50s that showed a bit more 50% of the comics readership was female.) They read Archies. They read later newspaper strips, in fact they read them to this day.
But of course, in the 70s, the newsstand distribution system for cheap comics dissolved, to be replaced by the direct sales market, a business run by passionate fans of mostly superhero comics, a group that was heavily male, as early fanzines show. The other day John Jackson Miller did a major analysis of Archie sales through the years (which got picked up by Fivethirtyeight.com, go John!) and it included this chart of Archie newsstand sales, according to Post Office statements:
Read all of it, its interesting.

It should be noted that Marvels excuses for not having female lead films are getting worse, though. First it was because they could only do two films a year and the films were already alotted and it was just a coincidence they were all led by white men. Now they are going to start releasing three films a year from 2017 I think but still no female lead films in sight because 'they are managing so many franchises already adding new ones is difficult' despite adding a bunch of bar one black male lead (which is great!) white male leads. They are literally blaming the lack of female leads on the fact they haven't made female leads.

Mr Mystery

They're going to need girly heroes too, if they intend to increase the Avengers Roster.

eldargal

They are adding two new wimmins to the roster in Age of Ultron, the trouble is I think they are adding a few more guys too so the ratio only improves slightly. They also need solo films. Like seriously they need to get their **** together and announce Black Widow, Captain Marvel and She Hulk or something. Not just one. But with a 44%+ female audience share they are actively threatening their continued success by ignoring that demographic. It's no coincidence that the fuss is getting bigger each film release. The rage about a lack of Gamora in GotG merchandise is much louder even than the complaints about almost impossible to find BW merchandise. Then you get extraordinarily misogynist things likethe official GotG t-shirts which include five boxes, one for each team member then instead of including Gamora they include the GotG logo or double up on a male team member. They need to get their ****ing act together.

Still haven't seen GotG, supposed to see it on the weeked but it fell through. Hoping Wednesday. Maybe Tuesday evening.

Mr Mystery
08-11-2014, 06:31 AM
You fail at film watching on that one count.

Now, here's a possible mansplanation of the lack of lady leads for Marvel - Could they just not really know where to go with them? Now they seem to write women fairly well so far - Black Widow's interrogation technique plays on sexist tropes beautifully, and isn't even related to the fact that she's really rather attractive - it's just 'ha stupid wimmin we has captured you and is smarterer than wot you is!'. That's clearly a bit of a good start.

Pepper Pots - Likewise a decent female character. I don't think anyone could really accuse her of just being a damsel in distress for Iron Man to rescue.

So where would they go with a female lead, without making it some kind of feminist caricature? I honestly don't know. I'm not a writer, and for my sins I'm not all that familiar with the female characters (I tend to just buy the TPB, and those mostly about the main characters)./

Exactly the same place they go with the male characters. Bad guy shows up, does evil in Superheroine's vicinity, they fight, superheroine seems to be about to lose but pulls through at the last minute. Roll credits, bit scene on end tying in to Avengers VII. Throw in a dude for her to romance, a plucky yet dryly sarcastic sidekick, lots of explosions and done.

Edit: this is the official line (http://www.vanityfair.com/vf-hollywood/marvel-reason-why-no-female-led-superhero-film-rings-false):

I very much believe in doing it. I very much believe that it’s unfair to say, “People don’t want to see movies with female heroes,” then list five movies that were not very good, therefore, people didn’t go to the movies because they weren’t good movies, versus [because] they were female leads. And they don’t mention Hunger Games, Frozen, Divergent. You can go back to Kill Bill or Aliens. These are all female-led movies. It can certainly be done. I hope we do it sooner rather than later.

We find ourselves in the very strange position of managing more franchises than most people have -- which is a very, very good thing and we don’t take for granted, but is a challenging thing. You may notice from those release dates, we have three for 2017. And that's because just the timing worked on what was sort of gearing up. But it does mean you have to put one franchise on hold for three or four years in order to introduce a new one? I don’t know. Those are the kinds of chess matches we’re playing right now.

So basically they're putting a female lead on hold until maybe 2018 because otherwise they'd have to put movies they've not even begun making back and that would be bad because reasons.

-Oh ha ha, the male lead sleeps with so many women he can't remember their names, that never gets old
-Kind of sick of seeing badass women characters introduced by having their first failure occur involving the mail protagonist
-Where are all the womens? The Nova Corp had Glenn Close and a couple of others but everyone actually seen putting their lives at risk were male.
-Lots of scantily clad women in bar scenes and some unnecessary shots of Gamoras bum
-No female Ravagers?
-Needed more Nebula
-Drax is overrated, had like two very amusing lines and the rest was meh? Could have swapped him out for another female member of the GotG and had a much mor interesting team dynamic
-Gamora ends up being the 'srs girl who rolls eyes at the wacky boys because girls are nags' character a lot of the time
-Why did Mr Literal Drax call Gamora a wh*re when she wasn't literally a sex worker?

But a lot of those issues faded in the second half which was really good. Looking forward to GotG but I REALLY WANT A NEBULA+GAMORA FILM! Like Frozen, but with a lot more violence.

Difference of opinion but that's about it... a few comments about your own comments though...

*Understand what you are saying about Gamorra but her first scene was in Ronin's command room. Also to be fair... when she was introduced to Peter Quill they all kind of failed since that is when they were arrested.
*Ever been to a real seedy dive bar? That's what you'll find. Questionably dressed women and overly aggressive men... Also, while there were plenty of unnecessary shots of Gamorra's rear.. there were plenty of unecessary shots of Peter Quill's abs too.
*In the comics there are no female ravagers because the male ones would rape and eat them.
*Drax is an integral part of the revised Guardian's of the Galaxy team as written by Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett. While he was portrayed with a certain amount of mediocrity in the movie he's still a quintessential character of the group. Th eonly female that is really missing from the equation is Moondragon.
*Again... read the comics. Gamorra may not be as literal as Drax... but she is serious with little sense of humor. She isn't a nag.. she's simply all business because her idea of playing *IS* business (i.e. killing people).
*As others have mentioned I took the comment of wh*re to mean unscrupulous. Certainly a more modern definition but then we are talking about a space adventure... not medieval Europe.

I only have two complaints about the movie and both of them center on female characters. For someone who is supposed to be a major bad@$$ Gamorra certainly gets beaten around quite abit. Seemed a bit incongruous. Nebula seemed simply tacked onto the story and completely unnecessary. Definitely would have liked to see her more integral to the plot.

Just my two cents. Your mileage may vary.

Well the depictions be accurate to the comics but they are still kind of tropey, Gamora was a bit of a humourlass nag and even she is like that in the comics it is still a trope. A really boring one too. Why can't the female badass by the silly joking one for a change? Stuff like their only being male ravagers for whatever reason is really just excuses, it could be retconned easily enough, its a creative choice and any creative choice which continues to exlude women from groups in scifi is just bull**** as far as I'm concerned.

Like I said they aren't huge complaints but just a few little things which kind of grounded an otherwise reasonably inventive and unusual scifi film in fairly standard tropes.

I took my little brother (who falls on the autism spectrum) to see Guardians of the Galaxy and after this scene he lit up like a Christmas tree and screamed “He’s like me! He can’t do metaphors!” And for the rest of the film my brother stared at Drax in a state of rapture.
So for the last 6 days I have heard my brother repeatedly quote all of the Drax lines from the movie verbatim (one of his talents), begin studying vocabulary test words, and tell everyone he knows that people with autism can also be superheroes.

Now I am not saying that Drax the Destroyer is, or was ever, intended to be autistic. All I am saying is that it warmed my heart to see my brother have an opportunity to identify himself with a character known for his strength, badassness, and honor. And that is pretty damn awesome.
So while I adored Guardians of the Galaxy as a great fun loving film with cool characters I can do nothing but thank Marvel Studios and Dave Bautista for finally bringing a superhero to the screen that my little brother can relate to.

He has a decent journey of development, and Dave Bautista seriously impressed me with his acting ability, thought I did admiteddly start with quite low expectations.

In fact, one of the things I enjoyed most about the film was not knowing a great deal about the heroes and their story. So I could just enjoy the plot as it unfolded, and inherently saw little to none of it coming.

I too was a fan of the comic, I'm glad he isn't doing it at the moment as it saves me having to make a decision about whether to keep reading it.

Minor credit for having the guts to acknowledge that his behaviour was sexual harassment, but I'm not sure how you can be in a relationship with someone and be unaware about how they are going to react to you sending them pics of your meat and two veg. I'm also wondering if those two women were aware he was setting them at the same time he was doing it with the other.

Wouldn't be the first time something like this happened. Look at Elmo and Wonder Woman's creator.

Okay, WW's creator was just really in to bondage with grown women (which is fine when consentual), but it did color how the early WW comics came about and defined some of her weaknesses.

A perfect piece of casting news for DC's forthcoming Shazam movie in that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been cast as the villain, Black Adam. Considering he looks just like him, has the physique to match and can act a lot better than most give him credit for, I'm very happy with this news.

There are several good entries to this weeks contest, but none of them come close to how awesome this one is... I give you Power Girl in a poster advert for Wonderbra:

One of the reasons I like him so much. In a way, he's kind of like Spider-man. The events around him change so much, but his base personality remains the same and he strives to keep it that way. Spider-man just gets a lot more crap dumped on him.

I think they have. Wasn't there a series where they had different characters from different "phases/universes" of the Marvel-verse who went hopping between them? This character would be a good candidate. Especially exploring the dynamic with the "original" Peter Parker who killed Gwen while trying to save her.

Looks like another superhero is heading to tv screens sometime soon as CBS have announced a series commitment for Supergirl! CBS was the only major american tv network without a superhero based show in running or in development and so it looks like its a gap they wanted to fill in their line up. The premise of the series is summarised as:

"Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."

I'll be interested to see how this turns out.

I assume she is an assassin part time. when not stripping.

I assume she is an assassin part time. when not stripping.

It's a distraction. The target is never looking at her eyes or shoulders to tell when the killing blow comes. Classic Kunoichi.

Now let me get my tongue out of my cheek.

Not overly impressed with her costume.

Neither am I. Its kinda simplified from the "old" Angela - the sidekick Angel from SPAWN (I love the Angela Mini Series, where the Angels take Spawn to heaven and the both are batteling through one of hells dimensions (especially the scene as both are coming near each other) - its one of my all time gems in us comics).

What use has a belt if you don't wear pants?

It is big enough to count as a skirt :D

Morgrim
11-07-2014, 10:50 PM
No, a skirt has to at least cover one's underwear to count. And that costume is irritating. Asgard has valkyres, they KNOW women can fight and they know what sort of armour works best to do so. So why send the crown princess into battle in her underwear?

Build-a-figure series. Each one comes with a part for an extra figure.

Look at the top of the card packaging, you can collect parts in each special range of figures Marvel does, to build an extra figure, they've been doing it for about 2 decades now, usually though the figures to build from the parts were the REALLY big comic characters, you know Galactus and such, right bummer if you couldn't get one of the figures in that special release though.....

Batwoman has been cancelled.:(

If DC has any sense they will go to Greg Rucka or Gail Simone or a writer with a proven track record of writing excellent wimmins and BEG them to write her and promise them freedom from editorial bull****tery.

Brakkart
12-16-2014, 08:21 PM
Well Batwoman and a whole bunch of other titles, 13 in all I believe, some of which have been going since the start of the New 52 relaunch like Batwoman, Swamp Thing and 3 Green Lantern family titles, some of which are much more recent offerings though like Klarion which is being cancelled at issue #6. At least Batwoman made it to issue #40 and isn't actually being cancelled until March. All of DC's regular titles are going on a 2 month hiatus anyway as DC move offices from New York to California and the Convergence mega-event takes place in their stead which does look to be a lot of fun.

Batwoman was more important though, there are few enough female led comics as it is and even fewer lesbian led comics.

I don't disagree with you there, she's a great character and I've enjoyed her appearances in Batman Eternal which I get, seeing her, Batgirl and Red Hood team up was fun and I hope to see more of her soon. Here's hoping she gets a new comic soon or joins a team that gets a new comic.

I don't expect teh comic will remain cancelled for long, it was one of their better sellers before they drove the previous creative team off it. Andreyko did his best for a while but managed to derail things with a very icky lesbian vampire rape story arc.

It's confirmed, Marvel are making a Deadpool movie. The way it should be too. The Merc with the mouth is heading our way in 2016 and Ryan Reynolds got the gig. This is just a "test" video but it's hilarious if not a little sweary (as it should be) at the end. Enjoy.

I love that they included the 4th wall in this clip, just like the comics. Deadpool is easily the funniest marvel character and I'm sure will be a huge hit. Can't wait.

me too! I bet Disney and Marvel are wondering what to do with such a hard 'R' character since the rights came back to them. It's not like you can make the Punisher PG-13 without something getting lost in the translation. :p

As for Deadpool.... Morwena Baccarin has signed on. I'm thinking Domino.
