Hey guys and gals I have finally got the time to build a trench board and the forge-world Trench system is still not available. So I was wondering if anyone has seen something similar for sale any were.
I have absolutely NO interest in those so called trenches that are sit on the top of the table I am looking for trenches to sink into pieces of pink foam. If i have to I will just cut the trenches out and put sand bag trench tops from TerranScapes (link (http://terranscapes.com/pics/Web%20Ready%20Photos/Barricades%20and%20Obstacles/trenchtops-composite.jpg)) But frankly I want something more Sci-Fi than that.
While I am extremely handy with power tools of all kinds I am not an accomplished artist and frankly anything that I try so scratch build I will have to keep really simple or it will look like trash which is why I am looking for something like the forge world trench system. So if any one has any suggestions please shout away.
Thanks
If your scratchbuild skills are as bad as you say then this may not be of any use but there's a cool trench system being constructed over at Terragenesis:

It might be worth a look if you can't find anything to buy off the shelf and decide to carry on regardless of your ability.

I am actualy planning to build a trench system myself using the blast walls from the Defense Line set as the actuall tench walls. Just line the trench with them leaving the little firing ports above ground level. I think it'll look great.

Actually thats not a bad Idea I have a few of those myself and a bunch of the Quantum Gothic walls / bunkers I might actually just sink those into the foam come to think of it.

expensive but quick: that pink foam and just carve out some trenches
cheap and easy but time consuming: build up with chunks of polystyrene, leaving the trenches out then paper mache it
:D for duckboard old matchsticks work a treat! mix with sand and thick brown paint for mud!
once you have a trench use placticard/ foamboard for the sides and detail with a knife, bits and plasticard :)

There are some amazing textured plasticard sheets out there. Plasticard (or plasti-card) is thin sheets of acrylic, and come in a variety of depths and a variety of textures, with thicker more detailed pieces costing more. The thinner stuff with simpler patterns tend to repeat themselves less.
Also available made out of the same stuff is tubing and rods- specifically H girders and other industrial pieces. The Necron Armies on Parade entry that won at UK Gamesday uses some of the industrial support shapes straight up with no modifications- just glued to imperial buildings.
The textured sheeting could easily be cut into the doormat shapes that Forgeworld use with some of the fortification pieces. Others can just be that heavy metal sheeting with grippy bits sticking up. Its really easy to use stuff, just score and snap to get the shapes you want so you dont have to spend ages sawing through with a knife.
Some of the thicker really detailed pieces dont repeat the pattern as often, in particular some stonework, paving, wooden flooring and the like.
Have a browse, and see what you like (if anything). Dont forget a dugout for the infantry to live in, and maybe an officers mess (so you can frag 'em). Not sure where you are, this uk supplier has a large variety but seems to be quite pricey. I get mine from the local moel railway shop and Modelzone http://www.cheltenhammodelcentre.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=1095&cat=Textured+Plasticard
