I don't know if this is common knowledge yet, but as a subscriber I recived this morning a letter in place of my copy of WD announcing that the release of WD had been delayed until 1st October to coincide with the release fo Seahammer. Subsequent issues of WD will go back to the last Saturday of every month as normal. Good that they bothered to tell me, bad that they only did so on the day it was due out. I'd be pretty annoyed if I had a made a trip into town to pick up a copy today. So who on here did....

Strange,
I bought a copy of the october issue in bookstore last week.

You sure it was the October edition (382) because it shouldn't have been released until today anyway. It would have had Dreadfleet on the cover. The current issue had Ogre's.

GW has been announcing this all over, but it doesn't make up for the shortcomings of the overall attitude toward their customers these days.

From http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?aId=16900014a

To serve as a fantastic accompaniment to the game, expect your copy of White Dwarf 381 after October 1st, 2011 – the same day that Dreadfleet is released. In-home subscribers can expect to see their copy by October 10th.

Future issues of White Dwarf will be released on the last Saturday of each month, as normal, and every issue continues to be the first place you will be able to find out about our forthcoming releases
From GW North America on Facebook:

And here is a copy of the response I left to that Facebook post from a couple days ago:
'"In-home subscribers can expect to see their copy by October 10th." It's old news by then, isn't it? I've been subscribing to White Dwarf for about 20 years now and I find the new mailing schedule for at home subscribers more than a little insulting. For the first time in 2 decades I'm thinking of letting my subscription lapse when it ends this time around. The most loyal customers should be getting the best, most prompt service, not getting the worst.'

Theory at my store today is that something is going to be shown at GD UK tomorrow, which will also appear in the october WD, hence why it's been delayed

Yeah, it was the october issue no. 382.

It's filled with a lot of dreadfleet articles, some sisters of battle missions, but no shocking new announcements.
The only new things in it are a cleanup kit for models containing a brush and moldline scraper, and liquid green stuff.

Nothing about Necrons on the back cover? Maybe they will be released in Dec or Jan instead? Does anyone else find it strange that there is no Necron teaser on the back cover of the Oct WD?

That's really weird seeing as GW's own stores haven't got copy

I'd love to know where the smeer is shopping that you have WD so far in advance of even GW stores. This must be a royal ****-up on GW's part. Also, I am amazed that they have not announced Necrons for November. Given that Decemeber is always a dead month which will at best see some new FC stuff and Jan is apparently an IG booster month :( That would mean between Sept and Feb, there is no new army release. I for one do not believe for a second that such a thing could occur. November will see Necrons, it is the worst kept secret that GW has.

Another month without the Necron release? I guess my $$ once again will go to Privateer Press...

Played my old-school Necrons in LGS 1,850 pt tournament today - 2nd place against multiple grey knights, IG and Marines...

We don't know that, the WD back page is a Dreadfleet article, indicating that they are keeping Novembers release under wraps. Today is Games Day for heavens sake, wait and see if Necrons are revealed there before getting too cranky.

So if you're so awesome with Necrons, why do you need a new codex?

I can't speak for maelstorm. But my experience has been you realie on the novelty of the necron army. When you take necrons to a tournament, you could basically end up getting pair up agiest people who almost never play necrons/don't know how to counter the army. Like. People know the bassic "try to phase them out" but don't realize how to do that.

At a tournament awhile back everyone was bassicly playing gun lines. So the necron player made a army based souly on wraiths and scarbs to draw fire, and 3 monoliths that deep strike to block LOS on your gunlines.

The night bringer then chews threw the gun lines as your dealing with all of that. Well the warrioirs are as snug as bugs in the back.

This is basically a one trick pony, and the smart players now know how to counter that quite easily. He's never had quite the same success with that army list like he did the 1st time.

Now he's kinda moved back the more "traditional" mono-build 5th ed necron list.

I picked up a copy last week at the newsstand at the trainstation in Holland.
I was suprised the oct issue was in too.

The issue is mosty filled with Dreadfleet articles and a good read, but no major announcements.
The backcover was the first thing i checked, just dreadfleet stuff.

Other then to time the release of WD with dreadfleet i see no reason to postpone the issue.

The fact that their was no Necro stuff was a letdown :(

Someone in Holland obviously didn't get the memo about holding it back then! I wonder if this is an isolated incident or more widespread. You seen it on sale anywhere else over there?
As for Necrons, I agree with Eldargal, I think they are keeping it under wraps, as they did with Seahammer. After all, if they aren't releasing Necrons in November, what will they release? It is always a big release month to coincide with Thanksgiving in the USA.

You realise that maybe just maybe, its not necrons? maybe thats why their not putting info in the WD. If it was necrons people would shrug and go i knew it, if it was another army people would moan and nash teeth about how unfair it is. then get used to it and have no hype. If its not necrons Id wait till 2 weeks b4 to tell to keep hype and if it was necrons keep a couple of weeks left to actually maybe have hype because people are expecting it.

Or maybe its not an army, but 6th edition?? a good way to keep it under wraps and make massive hype?

Wildeybeast
09-26-2011, 11:26 AM
Well it could be another army, but what? No rumours have circulated about anything being near ready yet. I can tell you it WON'T be 6th ed. Why? Because a) new ed's are always released in the summer when the kids are off school and have loads of time to play and spend their parent's money b) That would mean that they can't follow it up with the mandatory new marines codex until Jan, when there seem to be strong rumours of an IG wave c) There would have been rumours. Giving no hint whatsoever away, is not a good way to generate hype. They will do, as they always have done, and deliberately release very carefully controlled rumours to generate internet hype (hence why we knew Dreadfleet was coming a few months ago). All the chatter indicates summer next year, though I'm still taking that with a less than healthy dose of salt. I agree it may not be Necrons, but I can't see what else it could be and I doubt it will be 2 dead motnhs in row of just random releases and FC updates.

I knew it! Squats are coming back!

No?

How about Borgified Squat Necrons?

Oooh! I know ... Sister Superior Squat, and her Diminutives (they're like Dominions, only shorter).

I know someone who works in the design studios, they said "Squats are the next army, and they will end the mech game entirely"

They are actually now a subspecies of the Tyranids that consumed them.

Necron Lord w/Orb and Veil
10 Immortals (Deep Striking every turn with the Lord)
10 Warriors
10 Warriors
5 Destroyers
5 Destroyers
5 Destroyers
1 Monolith

Tabled the Imperial Guard Gunline. With the Orb nearby, everything stood back up after his 2 initial Strength 10 large blast templates. The Warriors were in reserve, everything else is Toughness 5. Immortals Deep Strike within 24" of the big guns and wrecked the first vehicle. The Destroyers Immobilized and removed the weapons from 2 of 3 Lemun Russ Tanks (monster 20 shot weapon on each tank?). The 3rd Lemun Russ was neutered the next turn. It was just mop-up from there...

Grey knight "Quake" was never an issue. It was easy to Veil (Deep Strike) every turn within 24" (Immortals 24" Assault 2 weapons) and pop Grey Knight light vehicles. The 3 Destroyer groups took turns popping Razorback/Rhino spam and mowing down the contents or Shaking/Stunning/Immobilizing 3 vehicles per turn to make the opponent walk into Gauss fire. As a bonus, the Necron Lord got back up 4 times from Vindicare shots. Everyone ignored the Monolith and I used it to pull the Warriors away from danger and move them on to the objectives.

Even with the Necron Warriors in Reserve, rolling 65 dice at Strength 5 and 6 in turn 1 made for stunned opponents...

I missed out on 1st place because I could not hold 3 Objectives with just 2 units (could not stretch the conga-line of warriors to get the 3rd objective).

Ok. So Dreadfleet wasnt in the Ogre issue of White Dwarf was it? And yet thats out now. Dont expect any warning for Necrons before they come out. Also, theres no proof Necrons are going to come out this year, we are just guessing and hoping.

Right now GW needs dreadfleet sales. I think there are going to be copies hanging around in GW stores for some time so pushing them whilst there hot is priority. (Im comparing Dreadfleet to Space Hulk- people also wanted the awesome miniatures for their armies, of which Marines make up most of GW's sales, and there are nid players out there too. No one has an army of GW ships to add dreadfleet too though. Also, at that price I think people would prefer to by another Black reach and have some more marines).

You didn't see the wanted picture of a vampire pirate on the back inside cover then ?

Also, Dreadfleet is selling like hotcakes on the web (better than SH did by all accounts). They have an allocation for stores, but I doubt that will hang around too long. They sold all their copies of SH, they will do the same with Seahammer. I don't think they are worried about that.
