Hiya everyone, well the question is i have seen moulding supplies used for copying parts for conversion or just that GW don't make the bits that we gamers desperatly need sometimes.
So is it possible to mould clear plastic parts?
What i really need is to know how to mould my own clear plastic screens used on the Immolator kits for the SoB. Why, when you own 7 Immolators for your 7 Dominion squads and then suddenly GW decide to change to rules that you now need 10 Dominions to get the same 4 special weapons seen in the 3rd ed codex, i now need a stack of Rhino's.
Well that leaves me without lots of clear plastic windows i would like to make for turrets for my Rhino's now. And i don't want to have to take apart the Immolator Turrets to do so.
So does anyone have any ideas how to make clear plastic windows??

There are a number of clear resins out there that could be used to copy the windows. In my experience they tend to be quite thicker than the usual opaque plastic resins so you's likely have to do a plunge mold instead of a traditional mold with runners that you pour the resin into.
EASY CAST Clear Casting Epoxy is a good one to try as you can get it at most craft stores and it doesn't stink like the ones for fiberglass.
Most of the major manufacturers of urethane resin make a clear version. The urethane resins pour a lot better than epoxy and polyester resins. The down side to clear resin is bubbles, if you have one it can be seen. In general you need vacuum and/or pressure systems to get consistently good results.

Also, clear resins tend to silver if there's a contaminant in the mold (which can be almost anything), and only work really well with a few types of molding rubber, which are especially vulnerable to the contamination.

Thanks for that, did my research last night and was able to find a moulding store about 50km from where i live on the way to work.
So with any luck they may even do it for me, i think they actually do moulds for customers.
Really hope i can find a way, need about 6 clear plastic windows, and was told by GW AUS direct and UK that they wont be able to sell them.
And you wonder why smaller companies make parts to fit on GW miniatures.

RC model builders have been recycling plastic bottles into airplane canopies for years, using balsa wood dies and boiling water. Here is one link that shows a rudimentary process:

This isn't the best process I've ever seen, though. If I find one with the process I'm most familiar with, I'll link it later.

I know I'd find it eventually:

And on a related note, to add luster to that glass:

Those are awesome links Necron. I don't know what I'll do with this information yet, but something will inevitably come up.
