Blood angels honour Guard ( bolt gun or bolt pistol) Rules

Hello everyone.

Im pretty sure i already know the answer to this but wanted to double check.

Under the wargear section of blood angels Honour guard it states :

Boltgun or bolt pistol.

in the options it says i can replace my , boltgun, chainsword and or/boltpistol for a special weapon.

Now i take it that you choose whether you have boltgun and chainsword or bolt pistol and chainsword before choosing other options? and that you don;t get both a bolt pistol and a boltgun?

im assuming you only get one not both. I ask because i have seen some peoples lists that suggest they are replacing both the pistol and the boltgun which i didn;t think you could do unless im reading it wrong.

You choose one or the other like you said. I think Chaos is the only army that can take both, but yes before you choose to upgrade you choose one or the other not both.

You do not get both. You get one or the other. There are some instances where a unit has both a bolt gun and bolt pistol (see Grey Hunters in the SW codex) and in those, they are listed on separate lines. It's part of the reason Grey Hunters are so broken (2 base attacks with CCW & Bolt Pistol, Counter Attack; they effectively get 3 attacks on any round of combat in which a charge takes place, and all for 15 points).

i figured as much.

I will have to be on the watch for anyone playing it differently. I have definitely seen some online lists that have included a chain-sword and two special weapons/options.

You can still have two special weapons on one guy; you just can't have a guy with bolt pistol CCW and a special weapon.

Bear in mind that some rules say that "A model make take:" In this instance, it is in addtion to. Other times you'll read "A model may replace XXXX with:"

It's an important distinction to make, though at present I'm having trouble finding examples of it....

Yeh, if you replace both you can have two special weapons. What i was referring to was seeing lists where people had taken a chainsword, a melta gun and a storm sheild. which you can't do.

I know this is kind of thread necromancy, but...what benefit did your opponents think they were getting from taking those 3 weapons?
The chainsword does nothing on its own...
