The Dwarven Marching song could be heard for miles around as they
marched over the bridge. Woe to any Troll lurking for a Toll on this
bridge...
Following the Eastern road, Thane Bloodwater (BSB) and his Long Lost
Brother in Arms, Runelord Raistlin Bloodwater, were suddenly
interrupted mid-song by Erich Hartman, their new flying ace. " Me
Lords! I've just spotted a Large Ogre force to the North of...." A
look of delight passed over Vrell's face... " Could it be the same
Ogres we vanquished a few weeks ago?" he exclaimed.
Hearing their Lord, the unit officers let out an almighty "To War To
War!." The cry started "Get your Troops into line; Move your Organ Gun
into position ... Unleash the Slayers (6) of war... better hope your
powder (10) is dry and your crossbows (10) well oiled, boys; we have
fatties to skewer... and where the hell have the Miners (7) vanished
to..."
Raistlin and his two Guards made his ancient anvil ready as his
special honour guard of 5 Iron breakers made their weapons ready.
Muttering about the slowness of the younger Dwarfs, the unit of (19)
Longbeards made their Banner ready and checked that the two squads (20
Each) of eager Dwarf warriors were flanking them.
Leroy, the Bolt thrower Engineer seeing a small hill a short way down
the track, quickly set up his war machine for that all-important ST 7
Flank Bolt.
With a barely audible rumble from the Strollaz's Rune, the mighty Dwarf
army moved forward. Catching the slow-witted Ogres by surprise, the
Dwarf army moved forward again. While on the flanks, the Quarrellers
opened fire on a lone, defenceless group of Leadbelchers. Not to be
outdone, Leroy let loose with his Bolt Thrower. With a look of intense
concentration, Raistlin cast his first Rune of Wrath and Ruin on the Iron Guts.
Erich moved his Gyro onto the battlefield, being careful not to move
into range of the Lead belchers. With a mighty Roar, the Ogre army
lumbered forward. Such was the excitement that they never got any
spell off. With the Ogres now in range, the Quarrellers let loose with
a volley, making the Leadbelchers take a few wounds. Leroy cried out
in anger as his bolt shattered into the ground just short of his
target. He was heard crying out " By my beard, if that happens again
I'm taking the Slayer oath."
The Longbeards and their flanking units of Warriors moved up the field
a bit and refused the taunts and jibes from the Snotling horde in
front of them. They were looking for larger prey... Vrell's face
split into a grin as he adjusted his rune of guarding on the banner
pole. "Steady lads," he cautioned, " wait for the big uns!"
Raistlin managed to stun another squad of bulls with Wrath and Ruin.
The Ogres Bulls squad charged into the warriors. The beardlings,
seeing the wall of blubber approaching, failed their panic test and
nearly ran away... but, lucky for them the Longbeards's yells of
encouragement made them swallow their fear and stand firm. Erich moved
his Gyro behind the main command unit and let loose with a blast of
Steam, parboiling one of the LeadBelchers. Suddenly the squad of
leadbelchers let out squeals of terror and ran towards the table
edge, panicking the Ironguts behind it. Meanwhile on the right flank
of the battle ground, a squad of Leadbelchers moved into position and
shot one of the Dwarf warriors squads in the rear, killing Nolic, son of
Ryun. Seeing this brutality-taking place in front of him, Leroy took
careful aim and let fly into their flank, killing the whole squad with
one Bolt. Leroy was still getting over his amazing shot when he and
the rest of the crew were cut down from behind by a Gorger that had
snuck up the hill.
Seeing the sudden skewering of their LeadBelcher comrades, the Ogres Bulls attacked with renewed ferocity, killing the whole front row and making them flee. Charging after them and killing the whole squad to a dwarf, they made the unfortunate mistake of moving into range of Berty, Leroys grieving brother. Berty, not wanting to miss the shot, said a silent prayer and unleashed all barrels (Rolled a 10) onto the Bulls. When the dust cleared, only the Butcher was left staggering through the bloody mist. "Fire!" shouted the squad leader of the Thunderers, and so died the Butcher.
Bursting out of the river, another Gorger charged Raistlin and with a mighty blow (6) struck him to the ground. His two Guards rushed to his side and with howls of grief and prepared to make the foul monster pay. Incredibly just before battle commenced, a gruff voice uttered "Lads, not to worry, it only pushed me down". Raistlin patted his lucky rune of Preservation and also joined in on the Gorger smacking contest.
Seeing this, the rest of the weight watcher army turned tail and lumbered off the battleground. ( End Turn 6 )
