Hi folks,
Was wondering if anyone knows a company that does good missile packs that could be used to mount atop of termies.
Dont want to buy the official cyclones as they are expensive... and I dont want to do a lot of bitz searching and converting... I just wantto buy 10-15 (of the same model) and call it a day..
Any advice?

You mean like this?

Lol. 28mm "Bulky" figure indeed, with a curiously similar profile to a Stormbolter/Powerfist wielding Terminator (complete with shoulder Terminator Honors)
But a note: isn't this design (2 launchers and one auxpex unit) hitting a little too close to home? I do remember some FW designs being really, REALLY similar to this...

The "bulky" figure is so lame, it's fantastic. :D
I think the cyclone design is so generic that GW would have a hard time putting a case on that, there must be loads of missile pack designs in existence in real life and earlier fiction.

You're right - it is hitting a little close to home! The US army should sue GW for blatently copying the design.

Which was taken from the Russians in WW2

Who copied the idea from the medieval China (1500's).

Obviously GW would never steal somone elses idea...
Wait a minute, doesn't the Necron Warrior look JUST LIKE the original Terminator from the movie of the same name? Isn't "We'll be back" stolen straight from the movie too? Aren't all of their armoured vehicle designs stolen straight from WWI and WWII designs? Have you ever opened a WWI armour book and said "that looks just like an Imperial Guard (insert any IG vehicle)"...
Yes, this is all said with tongue-in-cheek. Please put the GW fanwank flamethrowers down and enjoy the irony...

You can mod-up spare missile launchers from Land Speeder Typhoons...

Sorry to be the voice of reason, but the landspeeder typhoon ones are larger then a terminator is tall...
Also, these us military vehicles look nothing like the GW missile launchers apart form the fact that they are pods that launch missiles. GW is allowed to copy them if they want. (but you do have a point about Necrons and the Terminator- Im not quite sure how they got away with that one, because that is someone elses IP- maybe universal should sue GW and use GW vs Chapterhouse as the case study...)
You see Space marine missile pods have the 45 degree angles on them, and decorative edging. Also, they tend to be two pods that are separated, often by a targeting thingy, which is a waste of space on the whole design, but overall much more aesthetically pleasing.
On relation to tanks- yes GW has deliberately copied things from our modern tanks. And in fact nearly all of history in the west.
And I think that is the first time I have ever defended GW.
<stuff>Thanks for missing the point...
I am talking about the auxpex unit right in the middle of the two "OMG, copied firing boxes!!"
It is a "big lens, small lens, cupped under a box with 45 degree beveled edges on ceiling" design... you know, the same auxpex design which can be seen in Predator sponsoons, Razorback main turrets, Landraiders sponsoons/front turret, Thunderhawks (most "support" guns), Dreadnoughts (under the chassis on one side), etc, etc...
And in some Forgeworld cases have that same "hey, this looks familiar" in the middle of 2 "copied firing boxes".
Almost as if they got inspiration from this: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space-Marine-Support/SPACE-MARINE-AIR-DEFENCE-LAUNCHER.html
Also, I WAS noting something as "being (a bit too) similar". I am NOT, however, saying they ripped off GW's design... ... ... oh wait. Perhaps I did.
So??
I did point out the similarity of the "bulky model"... in the SAME post... just saying.

Looks nothing like this:

Right?
<stuff>WOW, What a REVELATION! PLASMA, NEEDLE bullets, Suicide corps, CLONING, SPACE MARINES, ELVES, ORCS (in space), MIND-over-MATTER, TERMINATORS, Huge BUGS and what not are also NOT ORIGINAL GW CONCEPTS!!
GAWDS!! Let boycott GW for stealing all them wonderful ideas!! LETS SUE GW for copyrights!!
/sarcasm
Lets stop here, shall we? As some wise, dead man said: "there is no new idea under the sky... not even the Bible..."
*grumbles about a post noticing something about similarity between designs... becoming a perceived troll (and derailing) post*
And before anyone starts about GW fanboyism, all of the above ARE TRUE. Shall we resurrect N*** Germany and Stalinist USSR for stealing uniform designs, for example?

But termies are manly men. THEY CAN TAKE IT! BOOOO-YAAAAAAH!!
Regarding shoulder mounted rocket launchers, battletech had them all over the place, so GW doesn't have rights to the concept at all.

Take a closer look at the US army version in the top photo - two pods sperated by a flat panel radar "thingy". I've spent time climbing around one mounted on an FMTV chassis. ;-)
Wandering back to the original post:
For the Land Speeder Typhoon conversion: cut the Typhoon extended mounting brace off of 1 missile pod. Mount the remaining missile pod on top of the Terminator - it only looks slightly more cartoonish than the original...
If you have a vehicle bits box handy - look for the Chaos vehicle missile launcher pod. It should work in a pinch...

wkd- sorry. I thought you were saying they copied the military. Yeah, Your right, they have copied GW as closely as they think they can get away with. Also, I think I must have put my post across with the wrong tone as I never meant any offence. Also, im impressed with the quote from ecclesiastes.
Mystery.Shadow Ha! yeah your right. I think the orginal sentinals were further from the starwars walker, but with the newer ones, with newer armoured compartments.... Spot on mate. Im imressed you found photos with such close colouring as well.
On the topic of non-GW concepts, or in this case just the name; Dreadnaughts. I named my playmobile Pirate ship when I was a kid the Dreadnaught as it was such a cool name. Which I nicked from a Battleship. I think the name Dreadnaught fits the GW ones, but yeah- they stole the best names!
For the record Im ok with GW stealing that- I like it in all my mentioned contexts.
However. Back to missile launchers.
In my opinion the Typhoon and chaos marine launchers are too big to look sensible on termies. They are really too massive, but the thing that gives it away isn't the missiles as much as the size of the framing- the lanchers sides are too bulky. Like the vehicle lascannons are bigger than one held by a marine. What you need is something smaller, or meant for a less heavy duty vehicle. Something with the framework size the same width as the semi-circle that goes over a terminators head.
I imagine the sentinel ones work really well.

Yes, it's a tad smaller. But can you argue for the price?!

$12.00 for the Cyclone, $0.77 for the Outlaw Turret.

The question is how does the .77 cent model piece look on an actual terminator. I am all about my models looking good and would never use something if it looked bad.

You know, I think I like the Reaper missile pod better. It's a better size for a terminator.

As a big bonus, the 75 cent model bases are round - and the same size as a standard magnet. I now have 6 Dark Angel Terminators models with Missile Launchers: 3 on Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield Termies and 3 on Standard Termies. :-) Painted up, they look much better than the OEM units.
A bit off topic - but a fun use of the new Missile Launcher bits::
For Terminator fun I rolled out 6 units of Dark Angels Terminators with 6 Cyclone Missile Launchers:
I placed 3 standard Terminator units on the board (1 with Termy Librarian for table-wide hood support)
Deathwing Assault 2 Units of TH/SS Termies (1 with Belial)
Reserve 1 unit of TH/SS Termies for Deep Strike in Turn 2/3/4
Added 2 Land Speeders with MM for Anti-armour fun.
6 Scoring units of "Troop" Terminators (32 Terminators total).
10 Missiles on Turn 1, 12 on turn 2/3/4 (Depending on your Deep Strike roll)
It worked against double-Stormraven, Mech-heavy Tournament BA
Battle Report (About halfway down the page):
http://www.freshcoast40k.blogspot.com/
I found that FNP added by the Apoth did not help TH/SS Terminators. I've since removed the Apoth and the Libbys Plasma Pistol - and added a Chainfist to each standard Terminator unit for wound allocation shenanigans (Sgt with Lightning Claws, 2 Power Fists, 1 Chainfist, 1 Cyclone Missile Launcher), and a Missile Launcher to each of the Land Speeders (DA Missile Launchers: only 10 points!)
"Fun" DA Deathwing now has 14 missiles (at 7 different targets) on turn 1 with 2 coming in from Reserves. 1850 points
My apologies for the topic-tangent ramble...
