Good Evening All

Of all things I like to build, it is vehicles, and top of all is Super Heavy class vehicles, of the scratchbuilt variety. This thread will be to display Super Heavies which will all be compatible with existing profiles - either IA, Apocalypse or even BoLS own Lords of Battle.

Most of these will be finished as WIP frustrates me - I just want to get them done! But I welcome comments as I may use techniques in later models.

Enjoy.

An old favourite, I wanted to pay homage to the armorcast model, but not copy it verbatim. This uses a BoLS Lord of Battle profile, it fires an apoc template S7 AP3 so is death to MEQ. It also has a destroyer that does D6 S10 to units it tank shocks, and an extra D6 S10 if they risk death or glory!

Construction: The base is from the rear unit of a GI Joe Cobra MAGGOT vehicle. Respectfully I get a bit fed up with all super heavies seemingly based on Baneblade chassis - bit like Vulkan turning up to help all chapters!

The tower is from a cheapy sugar container - the plastic ripped out of the wood (which is saved for a model base), and the inner used. The Skull is from an Action Force Red Shadow Robo-skull. The hard plastic is good for taking paint etc.

The cannon is scratch built from a berocca tube with primula then toothpaste top.

Hopefully these links work. if you see this on the battlefield you are about to die! The diamond-esque eyes are from a button shop.

A focus on the destroyer. Rather than the usual massive blade, I wanted a masssive choppy chain blade affair - think the sarlacc but mechanical.

One side has trophies and a dismembered marine - possibly Ultrasmurf as everyone loves to see them suffer! This was going to recreate the old picture from the Space Marine Rule book where the ultras find a load of their blokes chained dead to a pillar by sons of horus but it got too long winded.

The other side is flesh hooks to hang prisoners on - one has a word bearers helmet. Lord Khorne found them wanting.

Also a WIP space wolf for scale.

The rear has a ladder so particularly worthy foes may be dispatched directly into the cauldron.

The top cauldron used a water effects to try and gloss it up. This was an education as I used quite a cheap one from a model railway shop. Took ages to dry, and there was shrinkage. Also strange effect of lifting some of the paint, hence I had to milliput a rim on top to hold it down. One effect I liked was adding a swirl of chestnut ink into the goo to look like floating scabby stuff in the blood.

I hope everyone will excuse the necessary pic heavy post, next will be my take on the Brass Scorpion.

OK, for my next beasty...

I don't always shout 'Blood for the Blood God' and charge straight up the middle. You may have spotted, and wondered why I asked for this picture, the original Silver tower of Tzeentch...

Herewith my version:

A bit on construction: This is actually a polystyrene cake top. I found this in a cake shop in Swindon. You can probably find it on Google by typing either 'cinderella' or 'fairy tale' castle cake top.

Being Polystyrene it had to be covered in PVA before spraying. I then undercoated Humbrol Metalcote light gun metal. This sprays on,then you use a light cloth to buff it up. Then a drybrush of Mithril Silver.

I wanted to paint it almost exactly like the old epic version I pictured. I added a few bits off the chaos sprue to look like weapon ports.

The rear shot. Of course I will base mount using a perspex rod to raise it to flying base level.

A shot for scale next to a Wolf Dread. Thinking about a spray of Gloss Varnish, what do you think?

Cheers until next time,

One of the best towers I've seen - good use of parts. For the colours I'd suggest putting some yellow on the base to balance it out more. Something like a stripe radiating outwards from the base of each corner turret perhaps?

OK, some of you may recognise this. A couple of years back, I converted this out of an old (revell?) ATAT kit, crossed with Defiler. I asked the combined knowledge if they thought it would be size acceptable as defiler in a GT. The answer was no - too big (don't get me started on those battle wagons).

So, what looks a bit like a defiler but is bigger? Answer - the Brass Scorpion. And yes, when I was asking for colour schemes in another thread this was why.

For me this is one of the best Daemon Engines. Super Heavy, but with a mammoth 12" charge. A demolshier, a nasty no-save-for-MEQ template and also the scorpion cannon.

As alluded to before, I like to harken back to the old epic models. Hence the rotary cannon rather than a rehash of the defiler autocannons so often seen. If I had thought at the time the CCW would have been rotary saw.

Close up of head, and also cannon which is a sawn off GI Joe bike cannon.

I hope you like, the paint scheme whilst not the most interesting, looks good in the flesh and fits with my Khornate legion...

Body seems a little large for the legs, but somehow I still really like it! I'm fairly ceertain I haven't seen a star wars toy used in 40k in quite such a brilliant way. Many internets to you good sir

Thanks for the positive comments.

@ Mrs Widow - not yet - was undecided on a base. However am considering going for a storm of magic Balewind vortex as indicative of the psychic jizz keeping it up.

Will post pics when I get this squared away.

...well truth be told wobbling along on some purply-jizz magic-ey stuff.

I used the Storm of magic doodad thingummy bob, I believe called Balewind vortex or some such. Yes, there is skulls. Base - Black, dry-brushed Burnished Gold, dry-brushed Burnished Gold/Mithril Silver mix. The column was Liche Purple, then Asurmen Purple, then dry-brushed Warlock Purple. I thought about an attempt at lightning throughout but 1000 Nightlord players have confirmed if you aren't at the top of your painting game, lightning at this scale looks naff. I contented myself with the odd dry-brush of ice blue and jade green. the skulls I dry-brushed white for emphasis, the whole column was then gloss varnished.

The Leman Russ is for scale.

Very lovely. I would suggest perhaps breaking up the large expanses of silver with some freehand or bits or something as it looks a tad bare for my taste. :)

Trying to find the data on the scorpion so it is not a over sized converted lawn ornament. Original stats on it would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Like the creative design work on the super heavies. If I ever get on efinished I'll post
