I've been hearing rumours that they are going to re release one of the classic specialist games, has anyone else heard anything about this? The Latest I've heard is that it is NOT blood bowl, which is a pity as that is one of GW's most popular games and could do with some new models and a dust off.

You What would you like to have updated? I'm a Necromunda man, but I think this was the most recently touched-(about 5 years ago) so it might not be the next updated. Maybe with the launch of fine cast Inquistor might be more doable- no more massive metal models?

The Inquisitor rules are dreadful. You need a degree in maths just to work out ranges!

I'm hoping for Necromunda, but I reckon it'll be Warhammer Quest.

If it's Epic 40K, that would give me the brain happies.

I doubt it will be Inquisitor. I like the game and the models are beautiful but it has limited scope and GW has moved away from complex games mechanics.

Necromunda or Mordheim would be reasonable choices. Both allow small scale forces, run much like the Kill Team mission, a campaign system and crossover to a main system. Both could also include scenery/ terrain sets that would encourage players of the core game to buy the new game as well. Inquisitor could also be rolled into the Necromunda system. Be a good excuse to re-sculpt the 'I' models in 28mm scale, those and any Necromunda gang models could also serve in Grey Knights and Witch Hunters armies. Either necromunda or Mordheim could also be done in a book only format with just a few new models to support them, this would keep design cost low.

Battlefleet Gothic and Man O'War were probably never popular enough to justify a new release though a unified combat mechanic would speed development of paired games and allow players to switch games easier as well.

Since Blood Bowl was ruled out that leaves Epic.

Epic 40k/ Armageddon would be a good choice. It was once one of the Big Three and 40k is claimed to be the most popular system. Start up cost for Epic would be high for a box set though. It would require at least two molds for the box set plus one for each army. OTOH they might be able to recycle some of the old molds. Marines and Eldar should be OK. Chaos and Orks might still be Viable. IG would probably need a new mold and Tyranids definitely would. Grey Knights, Sistersand Dark Eldar would need models. Necrons and Tau could be shunned. They could probably re use the terrain sprue from Epic 40k though I would prefer buildings like Epic Space Marine.

While I love the rules Bloodbowl is pretty much an entire resculpt to get decent models. Whereas Mordheim or Inquisitor still (for the most part) look pretty good. I recently put together an Artemis model that I've had lying around for ages (probably because it reduced me to a fit of screaming profanity and hysteria last time I tried to put it together) and good god it was an advertisement for converting things to resin. The amount of pinning I needed to do to stick that thing together was rediculous- still looks awesome but I'd never touch another Inquisitor model in metal despite them being some of my favourites in the GW range. Also still want them to re-release Digganob but I don't see that happening.

Most likely scenario would be BFG- from memory Forgeworld had some stuff for it in one of the Badab books and with the popularity of other games like Firestorm Armada it makes sense. Resin models would be much less frustrating to stick on flight stands than metal too.

Who said its not gonna be Bloodbowl? Cause that's what was said about the Space Hulk release. But if its not gonna be Bloodbowl here's hoping for Mordhiem. Or Gorka Morka oh man that would be fun.

i remember some time ago that people were talking about Battlefleet Gothic getting some work done on it. If that is the case, then i would be all for it, it would give me a reason to dust off and finish painting my Wolves' fleet... :D

I'd enjoy BFG or Epic.
BFG boxed set was what got me got into GW way back when it was first released and I was a wee little lad :).

It is apparently not a board game, not Blood Bowl, Mordheim or Warhammer Quest and is a fantasy release. So god knows. Warhamme Siege perhaps.

im saying epic... however NOT being blood bowl is odd.... there has been a lot of new sculpts for that.!?

could it be =][= being given to FFG?

however if epic is redone i wonder if the models will go up by 200%? currently what £50 for a FULL ARMY is not at all like GW?! what about epic... 40k scaled:P

A freind of mine who runs a gaming club here in NZ, speaks to Jervis via e-mail occasionally and was told about Epic being rereleased.
He was told this 4 months ago.

Id imagine it will probably be in Resin, using alot of the Forge world moulds they have for Epic like Tau.

Alot of GW Epic stuff was metal.

Likely it will be that.

Timing seems right on considering there new change to Resin.

Warmaster? They could make tiny versions of all the big monsters we're being promised for WFB!

Long shot- GORKA MORKA?

great game that hasn't seen light in years- like space hulk. They did re release the rules for free on the GW website.

Nope, its going to be a fantasy release apparently. It also might not be a re-release, it could be something new, we don't know.

Ah didn't know it was a fantasy release. Brew house bash- with finecast models?

With the exception of Blood Bowl, all the Specialist Fantasy games have been horrible. So the news it'll be a fantasy release is just depressing.

I picked up the Gorkamorka rules about a year ago. They're a bit mental! The vehicle rules are quite clunky, and there's no real variation in the ork gangs. It's a bit like Necromunda, if you took all the gangs out of it.

Wow dude what's with the mordheim hate? It was an amazing game! What was there not to like about it? And Warhammer Quest was a classic. You are stirring up a hornets nest there.

While I agree that a lot of the SGs are less than stellar and much of their popularity seems to stem from them being an idee fixe amongst people who think GW are an evil megacorp, that is a bit unfair. Necromunda and Mordheim are brilliant, in my opinion the best skirmish games out there, although they could perhaps do with a rules overhaul now (a decade after release, not bad all the same).

Epic and Warmaster were ok, but I never saw the appeal. The rules were excellent but all those little figures just lacked the aesthetic appeal of hte 28mm range, in my opinion. Inquisitor was ok, too convoluted though. The FFG RPGs are much better. Gorkamorka was great also, never had any trouble with variety in our group.

Whilst I never played GorkaMorka, I did read the rules... it seems the lack of gang variety was solved pretty handily by Digganob, when they introduced the Diggas, Muties, and Rebel Grots to break up the Gorkers and Morkers.

Rebel Grots especially have stuck around as a great addition to Ork fluff, even if it doesn't get much (if any) official mention.

I'd love to see a new version of Warhammer Quest (all Space Hulk pimped-out), since in the States it was Hero Quest, and I wasted a lot of time on that game back in elementary school.

Necromunda with all plastic gang line ups, plus metal character models

and then I woke up....

My problem with the specialist games I have played (mainly Necromunda and Warhammer Quest) was that the ongoing roleplay elements didn't really work for me.

For Necromunda, I loved the rules, skills and the TLOS (I think the pointy sticks were invented for this game) but you quickly got gangs that were out of step with each other and the weaker gangs were so heavily victimised that you ended up starting new ones all the time. There were experience stabilisers for being outmatched, but all the injuries you picked up when your gang was smeared meant that you quickly ended up as the walking wounded with lame stats.

I'd love to see a new version with points values for skills/upgrades/territories that give you cityfight style bonuses etc. where you could have a pick up game without having to strap your opponent into a polygraph to verify their gang's record and territories. Also push fit plastic arms that could be easily swapped out with new weapons. The cityfight terrain would be great for this and maybe some options for facing off against more of the classic 40k opponents in a reverse kill team co-operative style e.g. two gangs surviving an ork raid.

For Warhammer Quest you quickly exceeded the standard box enemies and needed a huge supply of warhammer models to progress. Again, I typically ended up restarting with new heroes. You also had to play it on the floor as the random dungeon generator meant it was almost impossible to play on the table.

Big question if this exists is if it will be a standalone boxed game, and if not whether they will support it properly which is one of the factors that points away from Blood Bowl as there would be a lot of teams to revamp to the current standard.

I would love Mordheim or Necromunda.

I dont think Epic would happen. GW have got to the stage where we play apocalypse leaving the game a bit moot....
Also Aeronautica Imperialis is a great game, but I dont think its had the popularity to pull people back to epic...

I can imagine Warhammer Quest happening as a one off boxed set seeing Space Hulk was such a success.

Could be a re-release of bombers over the sulfer river, ready for Armageddon IV "gahzkull strikes back - again"

Hopefully its Mordheim, that would kick *** if they included a new set of plastic terrain for it. If its Warmaster i'll pass, the closest i got to playing that was reading a battle report in White Dwarf that actually sent me to sleep.
