This is a question I want to ask to all you guys out there.

In my gaming group, things are driving me nuts... today we met at 9.30 AM (the battlefield was ready!) and at 2.30 pm i forfaited due to time reasons... we were at the beginning of the 4th turn! And I imagine that it could have taken at least another couple of hours.

My question is: do you think it is normal to spend SIX HOURS (or more!) to finish a 2k points game??? How long are your games? Please tell me that your games are shorter... so we can do something to make ours shorter too...

At 2k, we usually go 3-4 hours, but that's because we sit around talking, on computer, etc. If you want to speed things up, disallow all that during the game. Don't argue rules during the game either, if there is a rules question, have a bystander look it up while you and your opponent are finishing the rest of the turn.

They're as long as my Johnson!!! Which means they're over in about 15 minutes and the climax is usually very disappointing .... I'm going to go hang myself now.

In the games I've played, there's usually a one hour preamble, where we set up (slowly) and mostly shoot the bull. Then there's usually a half-hour where we set up in earnest and deploy troops. After the actual opening moves, we usually lay into each other with dedicated focus, until the game comes to its conclusion. That can be anywhere from one to four hours, dependent on the types of troops involved (horde armies can take longer than others).

Hmm, now that I look at it, that IS a bit like intense interpersonal relations. Given that the people I play with are all fat dudes, EWW!!

Hitting my local games club, I have managed to get in 2 x 1500 in betqeen 1900 - 2230. Stop people fannying around with chat, moving hordes one by one etc and you will soon get there.

Most common thing I say to my usual opponent in a game? 'You're not playing chess you know...'

The group I play with can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, per game. It all depends on which army is playing, what the table looks like, how many bystanders tying to 'Help'. If you have 2k MEQ armies going at it, you could be done in less then 2 hours. You have 2k of IG vs. Orks, you could be there for a bit. I found that playing 1250 to 1500 seems to be the perfect balance of the time-to-fun ratio. No matter the army, it seems to take at most about 3 hours.

Well last time I played a 2k game it was a Hold Ground mission with the Dawn of War scenario. Which obviously sped up games, but it took roughly 2 hours to play it.
It depends on the mission and scenario and also which armies are played.

Last gme I played was Deathwing (24 figs) vs. Orks at 1500pts it took 2.5 hours to get done but this coulbe down to othe number of Orks to be moved, terrible assaults, etc.

What armies were used in your game?

2hrs for a 1500pt game normally.

Never more then 2-2.5 hours.

You need to hook your opponent up to a shock therapy rig. When he starts taking too long, give him a few volts as a reminder that you don't get those several minutes of life back.

We've played 6k games in under six hours. It's definitely not normal to take that long to play 2k.

2-3 hours should be more than enough to play a 2k point game casually.

I recently purchased a cheap chess clock to help speed things along. Hopefully having your time running out will get people in my local group to play in a more speedy and focused manner.

I usually play 1500 points, which generally takes about an hour and a half to play. Interestingly, most of my 2000 points games have taken about the same amount of time, but thats partly because I seem to be very easilly beaten at that value... That and it is generally practice for/participation in a tournament where you only have those two hours for the game.

I tend to find friendly games tend to slow down not because of the person taking their turn being slow, but because their opponant is not really participating and simply waiting for their turn, flicking through the internet, txting, etc. Thus, when it comes to them taking saves and the like it takes them a while to catch up to what's going on. I don't usually play against these people more than a couple of times ;)

Around 3 hours for a 1500 point game, tho I haven't played in forever. I don't see how everyone else does 2K in 2 hours, must be used to tournaments or something.

Played a 4,000 point battle against two 2,000 point armies (blood angels and Vanilla) and it only took 3 hours to wipe them both out.

Any longer and it drags on. I sympathise with players who have games that go on forever, or the opponent's find other things to do while they are supposed to playing. Pet hate i guess.

Well, I play Tau and my friends all play either Blood Angels, Grey Knights, or Nob Bikers....so our games are usually over 2nd or 3rd turn. And then we get sloppy drunk to forget about how bad Tau are.

Set up: Storm Raven deploys 12" out. Moves 12", disembarks a Death Company Dread 2"(more, because the base is so huge), it fleets and assaults my front line. I love first turn assaults! Next turn I get to deal with Vanguard Vets with Furious Charge and DoA! Huzzah!

With both players knowing the rules, 40k can be played faster than most think.

BoLScon has had a 95% game completion rate for our 2000pt 2 hour round format.

If you know it ahead of time, and go into it prepared, its totally doable. The 5% who didn't finish in 2 hours probably wouldn't have finished in 3 either. Those are mostly very new players looking up everything, as opposed to experienced players who can command even horde foot armies with speed.

One hour to One and a half hours at 1,500 points, at the top end against horde and the bottom end MEQ on MEQ.

If my son and I play, our mutual slowness is amplified to they point that time slows down the closer you are to our table. People on the other side of the store seem to be flying around while we appear to move slower to them. If my wife calls me during a game I hear a buzzing sound like a bee and she hears a low-toned gurgling sound like zombie on valium. The only good thing is that if we slow down any more, time will actually reverse itself and we can finish before we start.

In actual gaming time probably between 2-3 hours, although there can be as much as that time with chatting, making cups of tea, drinking said tea. And with one of my group the end of match "you were lucky because...." followed by "If I'd have done X then that would have tabled you at turn 2" and other assorted gems of male bovine excrement.
Since we've started playing more regularly this tends to move towards the 2 hour mark, with less slip backs to previous editions and codices.
