Since I've gotten some painting progress done I though I'd share my Phantom, painted a'la TRON:

Loads of WiPs and a step-by-step assembly guide on my blog (http://collegiatitanica.blogspot.com/search/label/Phantom%20Titan).

Awesome!!!

Although, I think it would be appropriate for the pilot and vehicle to have the same colors (either red or blue).

You might want to think about whether this pilot has been 'rectified' or is in normal operational programming. Almost everything that is an 'enforcer' is red.

hmm whilst its a cool idea the execution is not so nice, the glwo could be more glowy and the pilot could do with some work... another idea would to have 'hotspots' where the large lines break into a lot of smaller ones,, because the model does have a lot of black on it.

Looks pretty great...turned out really sharp.

Are you going to do anything with the eyes or stones?
I think picking those out and/or doing something like painting more orange glow into the seams on the model would go a long way toward making the large black spaces look better. Or maybe they just need some highlighting (the armour panels, that is...like in a dark grey)?

I think a bit more of a nudge in the right direction would take this model into really amazing territory. :)

Love the work so far, it looks really really amazing, and of course as a Tron fan it is so awesome to me.

Great idea, and it looks nice, creative way to use an airbrush to give a fuzzy glow around light lines and panels. I do think the lines should have been thinner and more intricate in design though, otherwise I want to see what it looks like finished.

I had considered that, and did some testing, but the pilot didn't stand out enough. I'm going to be highlighting her lightbars more so they'll be brighter, but I'm waiting on paint to arrive.

It's still a WiP, yo ;)
Whilst it is very black, I'm sticking true to the source scheme - I had considered doing a lot of extra small lines, but decided against it so it didn't overpower the model.
That said I am still working on the lightbars to make them more glowy, both the line itself and around, and on detailing the main boady of the model to make it more 'visible'
Thanks for the feedback!.

Thankyou, that's the direction I'm going in - any thoughts on the stones? I was thinking doing them a much more reddish shade at the moment.

I'm a bit of a fan myself, in case you couldn't guess ;) The plan is to do a whole TRONdar army for Armies on Parade.

The plan for the lines is to be glowing intermittently, or unevenly, like in this picture (http://clothesonfilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Tron-Legacy_Rinzler-light-cylcle-cap.bmp.jpg). It should compensate more for the very large surface area and be less flat that way.

Progress:

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r314/Gotthammer/40k/Phan52.jpg

I've increased the glow around the lines, as well as added soem deeper shading to the lines. Both are visible to me sitting here around eight feet away, though the shading is quite subtle this far away which I think is a good thing - the lines don't look flat, but they still look like they are meant to be a consistent shade.
Still need to add some highlighting though.

Than you all :)

I've been shading her tonight, a rather labourous process but I made good progress.

After getting sick of shading I decided to make up and paint the first of my TRONsairs:

Gotthammer, let me know when the Phantom is finished and you have a handful of great pics. This is something the frontpagers will want to see :)

Will do Red, shouldn't be too long 'til she's done:

That's looking impressive indeed. Nice job, the contrast between the matte black and the glossy black is a nice touch.

Well... constructive feedback.

It looks kind of lazy.. like "Hey I got an airbrush!"

Thats a pretty spendy model to do up like that.. but if your happy then so be it..

I tend to paint all the peices of a model that size then bolt it together.

Thanks, the gloss/matte contrast worked so well I went back and did some more gloss on the corsair above.

Well you can blame the production team of TRON for the simplicity of the design, and calling it lazy isn't very constructive.

I went with the simpler scheme so the model didn't become overwhelmed by the neon, as it would have been if I did a more intricate pattern over it.

Your right - perhaps a poor choice of words.

I am also working on a Phantom and the enormity of the project and compartmental painting of it has my head spinning.

Forgive my crass comment.

As I said.. as long as your happy with it, thats all that matters.

Not a worry :)

What scheme are you doing on yours? I didn't want to paint her in segments partly due to needing the lines to match up and also due to needing to drill holes and such for pinning, how're yo ugetting around / dealing with that?

I like the female pilot, was it difficult carving the old one up? I don't recognise the head either, really nice job.

Basicaly I do it like this...

1. Make a base... mark the anchor points for the feet. (I measured it at Adepticon so I knew the distance and the size of the clockface I would use for the diarama)

2. Wash and file all parts, then dryfit them for a bit.. use blue tack and then have a friend help me out with a dremel. We drill out a cup and then a center 1/8th inch hole for a rod. This makes the head swappable, torso disconnect and reconnect for easy transport, and makes all the gun mounts and chest pulse laser interchangeable. I wanted to ensure the Warlock kit would be interchangeable with my Phantom kit when it arrives. And I am lusting after a Tremor canon arm hehe

3. Then once things are all dry fitted I paint them all up like they are each a model in themselves. So I take my time and try to get as much detail on them as I can.. so when they come together its like the 80s voltron cartoon. The finished product I like quite a bit..

Here is the Rev Titan I did..

Do you say the lines when you assemble?

Form Feet and Legs!

Form Arms and Body!

And I'll form....
The Head!

It was dead simple, about ten seconds with the dremel to remove his head. I replaced it with a Hasslefree one.

Yes, if you're doing a scheme like your Revenant painting beforehand makes much more sense. If I were to do another one it'd be almost all white with blue detailing, the reverse of your colours above almost.

Just about finished my Farseer:
