Warseer is still down so I figured I'd take a trip over here.

Just finished sculpting a Howling Banshee exarch at the moment, I have completed a sister of battle sculpt too, not long back, I'll post photos if anyone wants to see her.

But for this one at the moment, I'm hoping/thinking of entering her in the GD this coming year in the UK, at the moment still pondering if I should change anything.

On top of that I'm also looking at sculpting a corrupt sister of battle (only got the head done so far, i can post pics though).

Other than that I'm doing a few sculpts for troll forged miniatures, including my first large monster.

WOW very nice and welcome to the BOLS lounge!

the sculpt is fantastic and dynamic yet the features are very feminine! the only problems i can see are the odd lump on the back and the fact that arfter a few layers of paint the hair may lose its texture.

I cant wait to see this at the GD

-fuzzbuket

p.s. is that sculpt 54mm or 32mm?

Standard size (I think that's 32mm) she's in scale with the current banshee exarch.

Where are the lumps? I can easily remove those with scraping from a scalpel.

Thank you for the welcome :p

I'll get to work on getting a photo of her, though her hair is about half complete, I need to add the armour before I can finish it.

If it helps I'm working with a great illustrator called Nic, he helped me with the first sister of battle too here's a link to an example of his.

Nice work! That is a great dynamic pose, very feminine, but still aggressive. She really looks light on her feet. You have a load of talent. Thanks for posting it!

Well the current project at the moment (castable for troll forged) is the therapod like dino and mount.

At the moment I have the basic work done on the head and I'm looking for a little input, do I add scales and spikes or leave it fairly plain?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/N-large/AUT_1610.jpg

I've also included the photo of the head of the rider for the dino.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/N-large/th_AUT_1597.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v697/N-large/?action=view&current=AUT_1597.jpg)

Other than that I have included the photo for the basic head of the corrupt sister of battle, the hair is only basic down the sides and the back as I need to build up the torso first so I don't land myself in an awkward situation.

Spectacular as usual, wish I had a Lizardmen army. Can't say I have an opinion regarding the scales, it does perhaps look a little plain at present but with scales it might look too busy.

I'd put fairly thick scales on the neck but very shallow texture on the face creating the appearance of scales, but only slightly.

Sorry for the lack of replies,

I've been busy and once again trying to juggle too many pieces at once.

What I'm doing is breaking it down, concentration on one unfinished piece and then moving on to the next.

So at the moment I'm finishing off my red terror sculpt (I'll post new photos when I've finished all six arms, I've only completed four so far).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/N-large/AUT_1582.jpg

I'm also doing small bits and pieces of Lord Kroak here and there, based off the original Mark Gibbons artwork.

I've included more photos of the red terror, unfortunately the dino head has to be scrapped, it's too big for the mini.

I LOVE the red terror artwork, the model however was too small for something that is supposed to swallow even space marines whole.

Plus he's a massive gribbly, who doesn't like girbblys?

Here's a WIP of Miriael, the head isn't in the right place yet and I have to completed the links on the chain attached to the holster.

At the moment I'm at a stage with the torso where I have the key shape down, I then add detail over that. so there will be some iconography and sigils on her breast plates as well as a broken soul stone over her chest (fluff).

I'm not following the little known artwork for her though as she looks too over the top and clunky as well as slutty, doesn't fit in well.

hmm yes the sister seems right yet wrong?

things that pop out at me:

neck size
thighs/legs a tad too big? legs could be closer together?
the lower half seems to be of a larger person yet the upper half seems to be of someone with a petie build?
top of head hight (the eyes shold be 1/2 of the way dowen the head but here they seem to be 3/4 up the head? or is it just me.)

but still fantastic sculpting! the face is really awsome!

Fuzz, at the current state of the sculpt I suspect it will come together in the end.

I think the only thing not addressed was the leg bit, but I think once the upper torso is finished it will look right. As far as the spacing, dare I tell you to google the "thigh gap"? (Don't, I just did...here, urban dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Thigh%20Gap) will save your soul)

I am 100% self taught, where I live I think there's two other 40K players, no GW shops and certainly no-one who paints to a cabinet display standard and utterly no-one who sculpts.

Sculpting isn't hard at all, anyone who tells you it is, hasn't and doesn't practice enough or doesn't think about what they're trying to sculpt, how to break it down into smaller manageable stages, or even how to build up the armature.

Nothing major to show at present, just a sneak peak at what is to come soon....although grainy photos are grainy, I really need to get rid of my 1.3 mega pixel camera.

Another update, not quite finished yet, still got some areas to work on like the fore arm guards, the pack back and the neck rim.

EDIT: Arms will be getting resculpted, there's too many errors both in detail and proportions.

New photos now and finished Miriael but with a few issues I'd have to correct on a resin cast piece, such is life...

Sorry about the quietness, my social life seems to have sky rocketed recently and I've had very little time to sculpt. (not that I am complaining mind you, last night was awesome! :D)

So what I've been doing is I got a new zombie dragon, I noticed a lot of people don't like the fact it has no front arms, so I'll be stringing together a guide here and on warseer as to how you can convert one. I'll also be adapting some of the musculature as the current muscles do not match or line up properly with the skeletal structure.

I will be posting images for known dinosaur photos to show and explain to you why this is and how you can correct it should you wish to.

I also have been test driving my new butane powered soldering iron (burning things with it is highly addictive) unfortunately I had a little accident with the gigantosaurus sculpt.

As you can see I scorched the outside.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/N-large/DSC00210.jpg

It is however hard and not crumbly so should cast fine with no warping or breaks in the mold. I'll also be resculpting the teeth as the original method I used failed rather badly.

Wow, really stunning work, truly.

It makes me horrendously sad that Miriel won't be seeing production. I want one. Badly.

Perhaps with a few alterations, you could still make an 'Evil Steampunk Sorceress' and release a kit.

Well I'm back from the GD and (my social life permitting) am ready to get cracking back into the sculpting gig.

I had a very good chat with Jes and Edgar from forgeworld in particular, so what I'll be doing is looking at some older sculpts (howling banshee exarch and Miriael) and making some changes, I've outlined what will be done below.

Howling Banshee
Crit from Jes: Rework the hair, needs a bit more body, more flow and deeper cuts, apparently anime is a very good source to look at for sculpting hair. I have also been advised to widen the lower part of the chest plate around the ribs (ribs not boobs) this will help draw more of a line to a feminine shape.

Miriael
Crit : Re-work the folds in the robes, parts are not long enough and others do not flow, twist or move as much as they would in real life, also sculpt a step for her so the sword matches up with her hands. Back pack needs more depth so the side profile has more shape to it.

After this I will be tackling the Carnosaur again, Edgar was incredibly helpful with his advice on teeth and I will also be having a go at making my own tools after some recommendations he made.

I am even going to be going back to sculpting Kroak based off Mark G's artwork, if I ignore it for another year and go back to Gamesday, Jes may well throw things at me. ;)

Great builds man, I like them quite a bit.

How you get your straight edges on your armor so nicely done? I'm starting true-scale and other GS projects which I think look nice but, the edges of the material (armor, guns, ect) don't have the crisp edges that yours do.

What's your technique for this?

You mean the sister of battle or just in general?

Well it shouldn't matter in theory as the principle is the same either way. I'd say the big "must" as it were is to build up a solid enough foundation underneath, by doing this it means you only need a very thin coat as a final layer (once the foundation has hardened). As you have a solid base it means that with a clay shaper you can go over the detail layer and really work and rework the angles, squeezing out as much sharp corners and strong lines as possible, yes it means you will spend a fair old amount of time on it, but it's worth it.

Gotcha. I've done small stuff like hair/skulls and whatnot but right now i'm making scale marines. They look fine to me right now but not where i want them to be, so i figured you'd have some good tips in general.

Right now I'm using geometric shapes to 'build' my shapes but that's where my edge problem is coming from. You're recommending letting your base harden then go over with a very thin layer over the entire thing to clean up the models correct?

Holy cheesecake can't believe I missed this post.

Yeah, it's all about layering, doesn't matter what you're doing, nice sharp edges need a base with nice sharp edges already on it just as firm cheeks need a firm armature to cling to.

Not posted much on here, to be honest life keeps getting so interesting that sometimes I just don't know which way to look.

At the moment I've very very very nearly finished another post apoc girly ganger for troll forged minis and will be working on a third one in a while.
Also started work on another Lizardman for Avatars of war, only have the head completed so far.

A Necron sculpting article:
I've been chatting away with Duke too, about sticking together a sculpting article for necrons, at the moment I was thinking about an over lord of uber chunky immortal. But I got my codex today and was intrigued by quite a few of the special characters that don't have models, are there any preferences any of you would like to see me turn into a mini?

I could be anything standard fig size, even a another overlord variant.

At the moment Obyron is very tempting.

I also need some help sticking together a 1500 point list, something good but fun to play with.
