Ok here goes,
When shooting at a unit the unit must distribute hits evenly, now in a unit with multiple wounds that have different wargear you must distribute between them seperatly for saves.... example shooting at new GK Paladins 5 in squad, 4 with force swords 1 with Daemonhammer, if you hit 5 times take 4 saving rolls for force swords and 1 for DH wielder.

Question if you hit above squad 5 times and wound DH wielder and a normal guy, that counts as 2 wounds on the unit so do you remove one base? or have wound markers on 2 models? BRB states that you must remove whole models and can't have wounds spread around a unit just to keep models alive....in which case which model is removed:eek:

No, you can allocate one wound to DH Paladin and one to a FS Paladin. If they all had Force swords then you'd have to allocate two wounds to one model as they would be "identical multiple-wound models" per p.26 of the Rulebook.

As Hive Mind said, you end up with one wound on the DH Paladin and one on the FS Paladins. If you had two failed saves on the FS Paladins, then you would have to remove a whole paladin, rather than taking one wound off of two models. The exception is against wounds that cause Instant Death. Pg 26 in the BRB, second to last paragraph, says that you must remove one model for each unsaved wound that causes instant death. Further more, it must be an unwounded model if possible.

This is one of the main reasons why Nob Bikers are such a brilliant deathstar units; each being able to be armed differently, with multiple saves (armour, cover everywhere and invulnerable, as well as FNP) and I imagine Paladin units will be more or less the same, though without the constant cover save.

Also remember, that an attack (or wound) that inflicts instant death to a unit must always be placed on an unwounded model.

So in your example you now have 1 wounded guy with a FS, and one wounded guy with a DH. If they were hit by a Dark Lance (S8, AP2) this wound would have to be put on one of the FS who still had 2 wounds left. You can't fob the ID, Armour ignoring wound onto the guy whos already wounded to reduce the damage it does to the squad

You only need to remove an unwounded model that dies to instant death AFTER wounds have been allocated amoungst the different groups in a unit, so you can "cheat" the instant death rule at times.

Wound allocation comes before the "remove whole models" part, which is part of why allocation shenanigans are so useful. You can dump ID wounds on models that have already taken wounds, stack wounds that ignore saves, etc, in order to minimize damage.

Oh yeah, never suggested you couldn't. But if the ID shot comes from a different squad, the wound allocation is done seperatly...

Personally I Hope wound allocation gets fiddled a little in 6th ed rules to make it a little less all conquering...although i'm not sure how this would be done...
