So what is everyone thinking in terms of weapon load-out for the GK Librarian? It seems like the # of attacks for him isn't quite high enough to make him a CC master, despite the 1-2-3 combo potential of Hammerhand / Might of Titan / Quicksilver and a Daemonhammer (is the str 10 overkill anyway?). A warding stave will keep him alive in CC if he's buffing a unit.

So thoughts? I lopped off the head of my force staff for the Metal Termie Libby, so what should I put on top?

He only needs hammerhand to get str 10.

Take 4 powers min, two per player turn. That way you can use him to his full potential. Don't bother to waste points on the level 3 upgrade. Take additional psychic powers as needed, since they're so cheap.

And, no, the Librarian isn't a CC character, so don't waste points trying to turn him into one. Especially not with how expensive the Warding Stave is. Just keep the sword so he gets a 4++ in CC, and keep him cheap. Spend points on powers and skulls only. And maybe a teleport homer, if you feel your list needs it.

As for what powers:

Dark Excommunication is basically worthless. It's only good against Daemons, so taking this is only good for tailored lists.

Powers only usable in the Librarian's turn:

Might of Titan is great. Quicksilver is great. Warp Rift is great (autopenning vehicles is more important than killing exposed infantry models)

Summoning is pretty good. It can win you the game in the right circumstances, but you have a chance of scattering and killing yourself, making it a bit of a gamble.

Vortex of Doom is ok, since str 10 ap 1 is never a bad thing. Unless you fail the psychic test and it hits the Librarian.

Smite sucks. Don't bother with it.

For powers useable in your opponent's turn (always take these):

Sanctuary is pretty good, and is great against armies that don't have grenades.

Shrouding is great.

Thoughts on how I should model it then? I mean, if I stick a sword on the end of the staff, it may look peculiar.

Damn you GW. We need a plastic Terminator/Chaplain kit.

I'd just use a GK Terminator model. The armor looks way better, and it'll actually look like a Grey Knight. That way you can pick wargear as you like, and just put some extra bitz on.

I'm gonna go with master crafted stave, digital weapons, hammerhand, might of titan, shrouding, and summoning. (210?) Points permitting I may throw on a teleport homer. The stave is expensive, but this character's ability to infuriate opponents is just too awesome to not take. Nasty buffs and a 2++ in CC? Yes please!

I'm saving the nemesis daemon hammer from my GK termie box set and, since the staff arm comes as a seperate part in the blister, it'll make a pretty simple conversion. As for the choice in weapon I say daemon hammer. It is a dead cheap upgrade and means that, although the libbie isn't amazing at combat, it can kill anything that tries to screw it over.

im going to run mine with nemisis warding stave (aka cant kill me in CC) with vortex of doom, summoning, 1 servo skull and possibly might of titan/hammerhand!

use in conjunction with a LR with warp plating and you have barrels of fun!
1) DS libby +some termies into cover
2) summon LRR with psyflame full of paladins ( 5 paladins, 4 falchions, 1 banner/apotheecary)
3) 2nd turn assualt without your bawx getting shot at!

Sounds nice! Only you cant assault from the Land Raider because you Deep Strike!

Until someone claims that it can remove the Crowe rules that buff enemy units.

...and when that someone does, they should be roundly told to go reproduce with themselves...

Agreed. It's a massive stretch but the description of daemon weapons in C:CSM talks about the "god who gifted it".

Someone will try it at some point.

My librarian is gona have the staff, tele homer, 3 servo skulls, quicksilver, might of titan, sanctuary and ther summoning. Hes really not built for cc in my opinion, WS 5 is nice but only 2 attacks is mehh.
i use him for support, nothing more.
