Hrm.

Well, the issue with this list is that the Grey Hunters packs will come in piecemeal and the Long Fangs packs cannot fire the turn they arrive. So what will happen is the same thing that happens to every drop pod list. You'll drop in, melta someone's transport/tank, blow it up and then get shot/charged.

Basically, with drop wolves you need to do A LOT of damage the turn you arrive and then set up such that shooting attacks will be cover-saved away and always be ready for a really good counter-assault.

I recommend taking Logan Grimnar so that then turn you get counter-charged you can use his ability to give all your models +1 attack (this makes counter-attack extra good). If you REALLY wanted to be mean you could take a Witch Hunter's Inquisitor with a holy relic so that you could give your squads +2 bonus attacks the turn you get charged (this is a really mean yet REALLY fun combination).

I wrote a blog article on a drop wolves list I was trying. Check it out it might give you a few ideas to mess around with: http://perilsoftheblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/revisions-to-drop-wolves.html

why do the long fangs have to come in their pods?

that's 3 pods that can be used for alpha strikes, or delaying of wolves.

It's true that they don't. I'm just not a fan of leaving Long Fangs in the backfield totally unsupported. I like to run one long fangs pack in a drop list. I give them maximum meltas and have logan join them so that they can fire their meltas the turn they arrive (we call this the "logan bomb" at my FLGS).

But yes, you certainly could just deploy them and use the empty pods for reserves shenanigans.

Alright that makes sense then.

I just wouldn't want to leave the LF alone is all, it's some easy KPs.

The more I look at the list, I dislike the list. I am just trying to find something thing I like to play. I want a shooting counter army

That's pretty much the way I play Wolves.

I usually run with:
2x Rune Priests
Wolf Guard (PF/CM)
2x Wolf Scouts Packs
3-4x GH Packs (PF, Melta and Banner)
Max long fangs

It works well for me.

So after researching, I come to the conclusion that pod wolves is possible. I have tried again please tell me what you think!

Logan =275
Rune Priest master storm caller and murderous hurricane =150
wolf guard in terminator(5) 4xwolf claws 5x SS assault cannon pod =325
scouts(5) meltagun =85
greyhunter(10) melta plasma PW standard pod=215
greyhunter(10) melta plasma PW standard pod=215
greyhunter(10) melta plasma PW standard pod=215
greyhunter(10) melta plasma PW standard pod=215
greyhunter(10) melta plasma PW standard pod=215
speeder(1)multi-melta heavy flamer =70
speeder(1) multi-melta heavy flamer =70
long fangs (5) 4x multi-melta PW pod =165

Logan and the rune priest go with the long fangs and he uses storm caller for cover to shooting for the long fangs. I will deep strike the speeders. I will get 4 pods turn one. I am not sure if i will drop the wolf guard turn one, but the long fangs will be.

I am not to sure about taking the speeders!

I like it, looks tight.

I'd double down with the GH Melta's, but that's me. Sick of rolling 1s all day;)

Maybe switch out the speeders for another scout pack (more MOTW please!)and 1 more long fang in the existing pack. Then again those speeders are damn usefull,

I am play testing this weekend, so i will try the speeders. The one long fang i really dont see worth it when 2 shots should do it. Whoop, what do you think about waiting till turn 3 for the wolf guard to drop. I think turn 3 is better to give time to tie up some of the shooting units.

Yeah, it's situational.

If the enemy doesn't have the shooting to deal with them or if you can find a good hiding spot go for it. Otherwise, I'd wait till turn 2/3 to bring them in.

I used a similar logan bomb vs guard with much success. Keep in mind though that the first turn they arrive, you wont get the RP save for your LFs since he doesnt start the turn on the table. If they live though, they are golden for future turns.

Im very interested to see how this turns out! My army is very similar, but I've chucked in some Dreads for heavy fire support, and a Priest with Jaws of the World Wolf.. cause its fun!

LOL I used JoWW once, and it was dispelled by a librarian every time.

I use JotWW almost every game. It's hit or miss, but when it hits it hurts.

I actually keep a little tally of all the crazy characters and creatures I've gotten to fall down a hole. My biggest kill was taking down Abaddon and 2 Slaanesh terminators about a week ago.

I was happy :)

You should see it against an orc horde, or Tau. Welcome to a tour of the grand canyon, Watch your step!

Meganobs and broadsides go bye bye! But on the whole, Even against SM I still like it. 24" no armor save, initiative roll?

Me Likey!

I would take WG with power fist and combi-melta in all your GH units. Im not a fan of Logan myself, i always use Ragnar, you will be assaulted so why not go for the ini 6/5 and str 6/5, saved me lots of times! If you gonna DS Long Fangs give em meltaguns and/or plasmaguns and ad a WG with cyclone missile launcher, this way you can still be mobile and take out tanks. DS dreadnoughts also works, your opponent is not going to be happy when a dreadnought with multi-melta and heavy flamer is in his lines ^^. Oh and a rune priest with living lightning and murderous hurricane is also perfect to take out tanks and units of infantry.
