Some of you may be aware that for the last few months I've been building a kopta mounted Ork force, however I made a special character to lead them. Lots of fun, however not exactly tourny legal...

Newho I still wanted to use them in an upcoming tournament in Portsmouth UK, so I give for criticism the KoptaForce; Lite

General Plan;
Reserve one or two of the Deffkopta units, depending on the mission and deployment and bring them on via outflank. Hopefully they should all be versatile enough to deal with shooting side/rear armour of most vehicles or in assault OR take on most infantry. Using wound allocation and a bit of speed, hopefully at least one unit should still be around at the end of the game to help contest any objectives. *Ammo Runt on the Warlord was mostly because I had to spend a few more points but didn't have enough for any other upgrade.

Use the Nob Bikers as a fairly solid centre for the army, driving up the centre and providing cover for the Warboss and Boyz Mob in the Trukk, both of which should hopefully be able to take the heart out of most armies and take objectives if possible.

Finally the bigger Boyz Mobs can stay back near my board edge in cover to keep my objectives safe.

Any thoughts?

Well I guess no comments means no criticisms either. Has anyone used or seen anyone use more than a couple of deffkoptas in an army? If so, any tips on how to get the best out of them?

As a fun armylist this is fine, but for competitive play it won't work well at all. You're investing land raider cost three times over into a unit with a 4+ save that's lack-luster both in shooting and close-combat.

Deff koptas are for suiciding armour not for building an army around.

Still, I like the concept and the army would look really sharp on the tabletop. Stick to the hobby side on this one, it's not competitive.

Would a Waaagh Banner be a good investment for the Nobz? Dropping the Ammo Grot (waste of points on the Warboss anyway), Bosspole in the Nobz unit and one boy from any mob frees up the points [3, 5 and 6 respectively and 15 for the banner].

Part of the reason people play Nob Bikers over Deffcoptas is the free cover save. I just feel like you're missing out on too much.

Permofrming a little bit of threadomancy here, but oh well. I really should have let people know how I got on at the portsmouth tournament; badly. however that has very little to do with the list. I didn't get any sleep in the 48 hours leading up to the tournament, so hallucinated through my games on the first day, causing my to be tabled by turn 4 at the latest. On the second day however (after about 12 hours sleep) I did manage to win all my games, including tabling one of my opponants. Fair to say the first day wasn't exactly worth assessing the quality of my list from :P

Newho, here was the list I ended up taking to the tournament

As I said, when I was awake enough to know what was going on, these guys were pretty viscious. With the Nob Bikers able to go and hold/clear almost any objective anywhere on the table, the Floaty Trukk mob of boyz (usually with Warboss on board) usually able to take an objective that wasn't in my deployment zone but more weakly defended and my two blob squads almost always able to at least hold one of my home objectives I did fairly well. This left my Koptas free to harass the enemy and push them off objectives. Admittedly I think i remeber them all being wiped off the board in every game, but the two different set ups in each skwadrun allowed for enough wound allocation antics to do what they needed to before the enevitable.

Recently, I have also moved house; meaning a new area and a new set of opponants. These guys play at 1750 points, rather than the 1500 I used at the tournament, so I've added to/updated the list slightly;

For the extra 250 points I've added another Trukk Boyz Mob, a KFF Big Mek with a Burna and I've upgraded the Warboss a bit. Hopefully this means an extra bite at the cherry with objectives and/or a greater survivability for the two Trukk Mobz with the KFF. Other than that, tactics remain roughly the same. One of the main strengths of this kind of list is that people aren't used to playing against Deffkoptas. As Lemt pointed out, more people take bikes because of the free coversave. That said, Twin linked rokkits are hard to ignore, both when writing the list and when they are on the battlefield. Being able to scout with them as well garauntees at least a first turn cover save and quite probably a first turn assault (always fun with the Buzzsaws :P), or dropping in along the rear lines of your opponant's army later in the game.

Newho, as always comments and criticisms are welcome. As you can see from the three lists, I do take some of it on board, if not every detail. Still, let me know
