So I play Templar, and a buddy of mine who plays IG is convinced that I need to load my squads up into Rhinos. Now im a fan of big squads. In 'Ard Boys two years ago I scored third place with my CSM, running three squads of 20 Marines. I can do this in Templar, and these guys kill. I mean KILL. With two attacks and preferred enemy, my Crusader Squads have been charged by CC tooled enemies and beaten them completley THAT VERY TURN. These units include Ravenors, Wyches, and Wraiths.

Anyway,I like the idea of huge squads. Its a bullet sponge for my opponents, you see huge blobs of marines and you freak, struggling to take them down. The idea is that by the time these squads have crossed the board, you may have halfed them and killed off the Neophytes, but you still have a 10 man squad of Marines with 3 attacks and preferred enemy charging your ranks. Its killer. Those units alone can win games, but still I have enough specialists also at work to finish the job.

My friend seems to think Rhinos would be better, giving me the charge on turn two and more survivability, no need for Neophytes at all. I disagree.
1. Righteous Zeal is kind of wasted
2. Bullet sponge factor
3. If more of them survive, thats a twenty man unit charging you
4. The big one, Killpoints.

In a two thousand point army list, I can pull ten killpoints with a ccompetitive list. TEN KILLPOINTS!!! Thats amazing. That means that rarely will an opponent ever score more killpoints than me, ever. If I went the mech route, Id have almost 20 KPs, thats 10 extra KPs just waiting to get popped for an easy tally from my enemies. Its just not worth it.

Plus, have you ever tried getting a twenty man unit in cover off an objective? :D

So what do y'all think?

I think you're right. Righteous Zeal is useless inside a Rhino, for example.

Plus the value of Behemoth Squads(as I call em) are really lost on alot of people. Youd be surprised just how capable they really can be.

I also play black templar but I like to mech up. For the simple reason that people put out pie plates of doom.
You have a 20 man squad there, oh deary, now you don't, and you know what, even if i scatter I'll hit your other 20 man squads.

And while those plates don't kill the whole squad, them suddenly being subject to simple bolterfire and lasguns, pulserifles and so on beats knocks them down even more, plus with all that shooting there will be leadership tests which you will always fail at the worst moments (damn you murphy!)

So yeah, I like mine meched up. I really can't see the benefits of an extra d6 movement compared to having your squad always move an extra 6inch and being safe.

I'd love to see your list and try it though so please post it =)

I like the bigger squads too. I play space wolves, and contrary to internet opinion I LOVE BLOODCLAWS!! 15 space marines with +2 attacks, add in a wolf priest, wolf guard, and maybe a wolf lord and you have a huge killy blob of fearless favored enemy doom!

I'm with ya, don't give up the fight.

Size DOES matter boyos.
