Transport Question

This may be a stupid question but I cant find anything in the rule book. Can i take a transport vehicle without taking the squad? Can I take 10 rhinos or razorbacks and have only 2 marine squads or purchase a rhino for an elite choice even though they dont have it in their list description? I understand that they cant begin the game in the transport but can i still have it their ready togo on my first turn. The only thing the rulebook says id that it doesnt take up a slot in the FOC and that it can only begin the game with the unit it's attached to. please help!!

To take a dedicated transport you must first take a unit capable of buying that transport. Dedicated transports can never be taken alone. The only transports that can be taken alone are storm ravens and non-Blood Angels Land Raiders because these have their own Force Org entry.
