For those with a load of foamboard and cereal boxes I've a number of .pdf templates for buildings, terrain and ruins linked at the bottom of this page on my blog (http://40kaddict.blogspot.com/2011/02/terrain-is-everything-standard-template.html)

Fantastci templates. I think I'm going to have to build a few of those towers once I've done my Armies on Parade stuff. Did you have any step-by-step tutorials or anything?

Thanks guys, the blog has a number of articles relating to the individual templates. Most include a set of WiP shots and descriptions so if you look at all posts with 'terrain' in the keywords or '.pdf' you should find what you need to help you go through it.

Good luck having a go.

Thanks guys, post pics if you make anything, I'd love to see anyones efforts with the plans. I forgot I'd started a post myself with this stuff, so I should have posted this update here:

New .pdf plans for a man made hill are available you can get them by going here (http://40kaddict.blogspot.com/2011/08/terrain-is-everything-hail-omnissiah.html).

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yHPQeyj9qJ4/ThrSwbeUAdI/AAAAAAAAA6k/EaeDF9nTmrk/s320/13103806626815.jpg

I know you may be wondering why anyone would want to make a 'man made hill' but my reasoning [explained in the blog] is that not everyone can get access to pink/white/peach/blue foam to make your standard hills but foamcard can be accessed relatively easily via ebay and craft shops.

So if you can make a hill equivalent with foam card that's one problem solved. It may be slightly more expensive in the long run but it's an option open to all terrain hobbyists. I've a couple more hill designs I'm going to work on as well. But STC's for the following are in the works [however long that may be, who knows...]:

STC Single story ruin
STC Hex Defence platforms
STC Targus Assault Blockade
STC Vent tower
STC Athena plateau
STC Mercury plateau
STC 40k Cathedral tower

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v670/Samadhi/113.jpg

the tower plans are slightly harder but still make a lot of sence if you have ever used foam bord befor. i just need to deatail the other 3 sides and add trim

Wow turiya64, that's awesome. It's so bizarre to see what you've done and then look up and see the original. It's like spotting an identical twin you didn't know you had. The little edging detail on the buttresses doesn't fold flat round the buttresses on mine either. I guess I need to expand the front of it by 1mm so it'll end up neater and make a proper edge. Thanks for making it.

"The little edging detail on the buttresses doesn't fold flat round the buttresses on mine either. I guess I need to expand the front of it by 1mm so it'll end up neater and make a proper edge."

At first it realy bothered me honnestaly but now i really actualy like it the way it is. It looks like there is a iron sheat atached to the concreet base for reinforcments.

oh and if any one want my 2cents for the bunker i used mdf/pressbord for the hex piece that forms the base of the bunker and the whole thing is solid as a rock now

Printed off a couple of hex platform templates today. I actually thought about using those paper spools before, but the ones at my work are made of a strange styrofoam rather than plastic.

turiya64
10-04-2011, 04:56 PM
dwez I had an idea today as I was finishing my the heavy weapon for my second tactical squad. how about a section of wall that could slot in between the platforms. I know the idea was for walkways up in the air but we imperial fists love nothing better than a well fortified base and floating walkways just don't stop the horrors of the universe quite like a solid wall. :-)

I am going to try to knock to gather 2 of your design and work out the wall section right now.. be back in a few hours with something built hopefully

Wos, Turiya64, you'r quick off the blocks and remixing the STC, that's really cool. Nice idea about the wall, interesting way to make it different. I'm all about trying to multiply playing space by having vertical levels but if you don't have this issue then it's a cool way to build an enclosed fortification.

And MasterSlowPoke I hope to see your efforts soon, glad you're getting some use out of them.

Wow, that was quick, once again I'm impressed with your take on it. I love how you extended the arches to get a wholly different feel, more cathedra-lesque now and the bits of GW terrain added in bring another level of detail. I particularly like the street lamp. Thanks for your feedback.

turiya64
10-24-2011, 12:13 PM
Oh I just saw what I did. The section that was supposed to be the angled out bottom section I never cut off so it ended up as part of the wall..... oops . I thought my arches looked allot bigger than they should have:p

dwez
10-24-2011, 05:20 PM
No, I like it, dare I say the proportions look better on yours even. You even re-used the other detailing bits instead of the arches, nice.

turiya64
10-25-2011, 02:59 PM
yeah my hands are a bit arthritic any more so the pieces I made were because it was easier to cut out honestly. some days cutting twelve plus two sided curves into strait edges is a little more than I can handle without paying for it later :( but scissors made what I did fast and painless :)

Sadly I have been in a 40k rut for the last month or so. Just no inspiration I guess. But I know one thing that helps fix that for me at least.

a new terrain-is-everything (http://40kaddict.blogspot.com/2011/12/terrain-is-everything-can-you-tell-what.html)from dwez. now that template may not be ready for all of us yet but there is one or 2 I have not done yet...

thanks and I am glad to hear that we will see more of that generator soon. I am looking forward to building one or more of them.

I finished the 2 ruins I was working on. Now I just have to paint them after they dry 100% so maybe Saturday at worst in a few days. Work will be interfering with the completion of this one.

either way though hear is what I came up with.

this forum has become so busy due to the free army thing i thought i would bring this thread back to the front page. As it is the best link to starting to build your own terrain you could have. If you end up building something off the plans please post it in this thread as it servers to inspire more and more people to get out there and build!

Thanks for all the cool templates dwez. I'm going to have to have a go at making some of these. Out of curiosity those green/blue cube things in your first post, were they perhaps inspired by the Cuboids (Zelda's soldiers) from the old Terrahawks show, cos they look just like them, which is pretty cool!

Oh wow.. thanks for this. This is some nice stuff.

Have you considered trying to build any more of the buildings from DoW? I noticed the plasma generators, but I'd LOVE to see some of the imperial buildings done up. Some of them would make excellent terrain pieces.

dwez
03-22-2012, 01:17 PM
Thanks Mr_E there's already a number of templates around for Dawn of War buildings, I was really only after something that could fit in my modular socket and get to play around with the gel in the ballpoint pens.

I've plenty of other original constructs to play with at the moment so the only DoW template I may consider is the Heavy Bolter turret but at the end of the day I'm reliant on the discoveries of Avro Vulcan. Whatever he finds and shares with me I will share with you all rest assured.

A new template has been found, it's not much just a CD base that accepts my modular plug (http://40kaddict.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/hail-omnissiah-new-stc-is-found.html)

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vwVrgs_Xhj4/TwRMEEacIOI/AAAAAAAABhA/CldEj_5PFK0/s320/base-%25282%2529.jpg

But you can stick this in the plug:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LGsqeTzHm0U/T4QUK_j5InI/AAAAAAAACXQ/RrI6_rwzt8M/s320/115-P1050307.JPG

So it would fit like it does in my man made hill:

The so called Free Radical Collective have managed to secure more plans for a Cathedral Tower. Please do not download the plans and create non-sanctioned, non-approved by the Mechanicum structures. And the next FREE Print and Play building template is available, it's the same style 2 storey building but wider. This way you can make a larger square building, once again they're designed to fit on A4 paper. The easy way to make them is print them out onto an A4 Sticky label, attach to foamboard, cut out and glue together. You can choose whether to keep or remove the windows or indeed hack at it to make your own ruins instead of [shock horror] an actual free standing undamaged building in the 40k universe!

Hope this is of use, please feel free to share the links with your firends, loved ones or even your arch-nemesis. Please don't offer it to Tyranid players, we will cry, I'm not going to blame the Codex but yes it's the Codex's fault. In fact I firmly believe the fact half Britain is being thrashed by a 'superstorm' is thanks to the Tyranid Codex!

It's my Birthday and traditionally I give away freebit on my blog. This year is no different and I've the tall version of the black tower to share with you. These are now endorsed by BoLS own Brent (http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2014/02/brent-how-diverse-is-your-terrain.html) so make use of it to make your terrain that much more diverse:

Finally got round to completing the last of the black building templates, the great thing about this one is you can combine it with the first building to get a wide square building or a narrow rectangular one [good lord I actually forgot the word 'rectangle' then, it took me two minutes to dig it out of my brain, how does something like that happen? Maybe my Dad's Alzheimers legacy is kicking in! still moving on...]

It's that time again, a FREE building template to print out and attach to foamboard for some simple LoS blocking terrain. It's basically a box that's already coloured with a different building template. Nothing fancy, just enough to get you going if you're starting out in the hobby or on a budget.

I'm not sure if anyone actually is using these but I keep churning them out in the off-chance they're of use. This is the tall version of the green marble tower which should bring the 4 building choicse [if you include the wide 2 storey with standard 2 storey rectangular configuration] to your tabletop. In total that's 12 templates.

I've another couple of skins started but not worked up but I think it's may be more useful to look at some different shaped buildings for a little more variety on the battlefield than just the colour of them.

Anyway, the link is here:

And you can get the rest of my templates in the STC tab.

With the festive season coming to a close Father Christmas found one forgotten present in his sack - a new set of Print & Play tower block templates that will match the very first skins I produced. There are at least 15 buildings that can be created from my current selection and that’s not including the additional 14 templates of more detailed, complex untextured buildings.

So if you would like the new templates this holiday season they’re available here:
http://40kaddict.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/terrain-is-everything-hail-omnissiah.html

And all the legacy templates are available here
http://40kaddict.blogspot.co.uk/2011/02/terrain-is-everything-standard-template.html

Should you also feel inclined are also a variety of free downloads including wound, objective, psychic power markers and not to mention a free terrain mat template should one have access to a large scale printer and you like Red Planet battlefields.
http://40kaddict.blogspot.co.uk/p/free-downloads.html

Anyway, hope it’s of use. All the best for the new year

12 months since my last template but it's finally here, my interpretation of the original Epic Space Marine Generatorium, not quite as awesome but still pretty cool I think. So, feel free to print out the template stick it to card and make your own simple LoS blocking terrain. And, as mentioned in the blog I'll be running a photo competition later in the year to win an Imperial Knight [or equivalent] when my next Google AdSense funds mature. So that's a free terrain template AND an opportunity to win stuff

If you'd like the new template it's available here, with more tips and details into making cooler:

That's great, be sure to keep abreast of the blog, because if you do make any pieces from the templates they'll be perfect entries for the competition when it begins. I'm planning to complete the set of all the buildings and their various configurations, I just wish I had more time to make more templates and hawk them around the forums so folk were aware of them. Still, an update once or twice a year is better than spamming every couple of weeks ;)

It's been a really long time since I posted any updates here, apologies I should not have forgotten my login details. Anyway I've since created a new Print & Play template and as LoS blocking terrain is so important in 8th hopefully you may find some use for a wide square 2 storey box Generatorium. Although you could combine it with the previous template to make a rectangular building, the possibilities are... well not endless, perhaps twofold!

If you'd like the new template it's available here, with more tips and details into making cooler:
