View Full Version : Working on something decidedly crazy...

Does anyone remember the Piscean/Saharduin fishman sculpt from Rogue Trader? The silly fish alien with a boltgun and exposed gills and a skintight spacesuit may have been funny looking and decidedly absurd by today's modeling standards, but it's still a fun, time-honored model from the very origins of Warhammer 40,000.
And now for the fun part, I'm working on a Codex for that particular race. I've got my own concept art (which I'll post up on here tomorrow), a history and tech-base, and even a hobby section to work on. I've got bits and pieces I've planned out to create these custom abominations of my own in miniature form, but I've hit a tad bit of a snag...uh....there isn't much that GW sells that looks like a fish or shark head. Literally the only fish I can think of off the top of my head: the one being held by a River Troll. Does anybody know any head bits that can be modified to look like a shark's?

Just to jog everyone's memory as to exactly what I'm talking about...

Alas I find myself something of GW loyalist. I was hoping to only use GW models from Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, or specialist games models. I might try a few different things, like the reaper wereshark if I honestly can't make something work.

Lizardmen + green stuff seems like the way to go to me. File off teh bony scales and add gills and fins (relatively easy to sculpt)
I don't know if you're building your own codex from scratch but counts as Orks seems like a good proxy to me. Saurus heads for orks and skink heads for grots.

I agree with isotope. Lizardmen with the scales filed down would work fairly well. Afterall, lizards are only one or two evolutionary stages above fish anyway.
Alternatively, head down to your local toystore. They probably have loads of kids toy fishes of various designs, shapes and sizes that can be canibalised into your models. I do this all the time for my convertions and can be a great way of gently tweaking the silhouette of a model without it obviously being something taken from another GW kit.
I agree with using Lizardmen but use GS to fill gaps between scales, easier than removing the scales. You could also use IG arms.

I agree that blue lizard-men are probably going to be your best bet. Obviously you're going to want to work with what you got, but it would be cool to see a plastics company make up some models for you! Realize Inc (realizeinc.com (http://www.realizeinc.com/)) makes cast modes. You could probably use demons as well.
