Not bad art work, in my opinion. Not their best though.

So excited! I really need to finish off the other three armies first (Wolves Dreadnought for the Space Wolves, Paint Seekers, Bloodcrushers and Flesh Hounds +Kairos for Daemons, paint ALL my Dark Eldar) but these guys will definitely be next. I'll buy the Codex and salivate over the models until my birthday and Xmas!

First of all the marines are amazing. The Space Hulk Terminators almost look like prototypes for how much detail can we fit on one model?

And the Dreadknight...less mecha than the "leaked fuzzy picture" but still....pretty wierd...

Am I allowed to say I'm slightly dissappointed? Not sure why, but I think I was expecting a little more dynamism from the models, especially the basic Grey Knights.

I'm not saying I think the models are bad... They are very very good, but I think my brain got carried away (it does that, hence my warlord titan) with what they could be. I agree with eldargirl about the cover art as well. Hopefully I will change my mind a bit when I get to see the models in the flesh... I've heard the black boxes are in stores on Friday, so fingers crossed!

Initial thoughts:

Price points pretty much as expected. Given the size of the force needed, this could be a popular second army as it's easier to buy and paint.

Dreadknight looks a lot better than expected, going to have to convert me up one of those. The sword looks better than the hammer though IMHO.

The terminators come with a lot of stuff based on the sprue pictures. Lots of spare weapons for other projects, which is nice.

I'm also not so convinced by the strike squads (although it says that they come with 2 psycannons which is useful). I miss the visual look of halberds and I think most won't people won't use them if they cost extra (I'll just have to hide the few I've already got at the back of the squad). I generally like two handed weapons but as with the sanguinary guard, they just don't work so well with a wrist mounted weapon.
The teleporters in particular look a bit rubbish IMHO and would have been better if they had stuck with the dawn of war game look with the teleporter built into the main body of the back pack.

I also note that there is no magic monkey so far and only one metal character.

So I guess they let whoever modeled the Stormraven do the Dreadknight as well?

Reminds me of one of these I had when I was a kid. Just throw some legs on the thing...

Terminators good, regular marines I like alot, but am I the only one that thinks the DK looks really stupid? Hopefully the Talos won't look like such a loser.

I'm getting myself some of those termies and some resin templar bits of forgeworld and make myself some sword bretheren with relic blades and storm shields. They won't be game legal (unless i use them as T.H./S.S.), but they'll look hella cool.

I too think the Dreadknight looks a little stupid. Seems a little out of proportion. But then, I'm not sure what the description of that beastie is so maybe it's all good and proper.

GW needs to get a price up for the Dreadknight on the US GW website so people can actually order it.

I find it interesting how many of the "Witch Hunters" HQ choices are suddenly available as "Grey Knights" HQ choices now, including the big walking chair, inquisitors on foot, etc. Check out that page at the website:

I definitely appreciate the amount of detail, especially on Draigo. I must say that so far I'm incredibly disappointed that there's no Jokaero up yet. I'm looking forward to facing off against a Monkey Business/Barrel Full of Monkeys build. That and I like a lot of the older fluff. Guess I'll have to wait.

I for one love the Dreadknight. And isn't that one of the weapons the Mechanicum had on 30k? On Horus Heresy Mechanicum they mention "Knights", units between Dreadnoughts and Titans. It may be a variation on those old weapons.

Well, the hero is a kind of Lysander redone…

And the Dreadknight still reminds me:

The Dreadknight is awesome, and as you say I will definitely be converting one to make an Adeptus Mechanicus Knight Titan. Probably shove a Sentinel cockpit in where the silly Terminator is sitting, and then job's a good one!

C'mon G-dub, at least pretend to be original?

With Sigourney Weaver at the controls the DreadKnight would do well against both Alian Queen Mothers and Tyanids..... 32 years ago!

It looks nothing like the Aliens rig, and only has a vague resemblence to the other you posted, one of which has more in common with an IG sentinel. While I think the Dreadknight is absurd, arguing that GW is being unoriginal when giant metal walkers have been an element of science fiction since the Edwardian era is just silly.

After going to the Melbourne GW store today i got to flick through the new codex. Im reasonable impressed with the new miniatures, rules and it would'nt have completed my day without someone already admiring the book there and saying it was broken..

For me, i thik its going to be another nasty codex, but looking into all their rules, wargear and characters/units, i have to say there expensive and feel like they lack anti-vehicle killingness. Against demons, well that's a no-brainer there, but against IG i think they will struggle with walls of steel. Now against swarm armies, there going to be outnumbered by far.

All in all, everyone is going to jump on these guys, and its good to see a female Inquisitor special character in the book too, though no picture for her at all, not that i saw anyway. So maybe you have to make your own figure for her (slightly dissapointed if thats the case).

I could so turn the Dreadnight into a Chaos Dreadnought or even a Chaos Hell KNight. The Grey Knights are just ripe for modification into Word Bearer Chaos MArines now that they aer in plastic., and I can still use the counts as rule for making a Choas MArine Army using the Grey Knights Army List. Shave and file off all the Inquisitorial symbols, file down the sword behind the book, add in some flames with green stiff, and put a Flaming Daemon head on the other shoulder pad. Then paint it one half red to represent the Chaos Legions new colours, and the other half grey to represent the Legions old colour scheme.

No one can say - you can not do that, because I can do it, and I have a Chaos Marine Legion/Warband that kicks Mule, sorry kicks donkey. LOL

If people can use space wolves codex to build a night lords army, or a Blood Angelds armie list to represent a World Eaters to represent a World Eaters warband, then I am definately using Grey Anti-paladins/ Word Bearers andthe new Grey Knights book to beat GW Imperial players at their own game. The good thing is in games of Apoc, I would be palying on the Chaos and Daemons side.

I love corrupting Imperial forces.

I have to agree with Maelstrom, the Daemon Hunter's Pseudo Knights Titan does look like both the Avatar and Matrix Batleroids. The least they could have done is made it a walker vehicle like the penitant Engine, and have it open topped. That way we could at least have a chance at destroying it in one shot with a Multi-Melta or a Lascannon.

With it being multi wound, toughness 6, a 2+/4++ save, iniative 5, WS and BS of 5, and a close combat weapon that is treated as a force weapon on a Strength 6 model. I think it is MAster Crafted as well. The ranged weapon from what I remember from the book I quickly read is a Range 24", Str 4, AP 3, Heavy (18 or some massive number in the teens that would wipe a squad of marines in one round) . It is also a Psyker and has all the Grey Knight abilities the squads get. At only 200 points, it is far more effective than other Monstrous Creatures or Walkers and Dreadnoughts that other armies get, and not as expensive as I thought it should be for its abilities and stats.

Hi Guys this is my Konigs King Tiger, please bring your shermans, Crusaders and KV1s for a little skirmish. I must say GW has crept this book waaay past the Blood Angels and Dark Eldar. By the time Eldar, Tau, Necrons and Chaos Marines get here, they will be sporting massive tanks, and monstrous creatures with the highest initiatives ever seen, 2+3++ saves they will ignore armour and invul saves, get re-rolls, counter attack, and every chese Universal Special rule in the book, and so many special characters, with the old characters boosted to such a high level, that even Marnius Calgar, Lilith, and Captain Stern working together could not take one down.

Well I am only saying out loud what most Heretic and Xenos army gamers are thinking. And knowing GW, they will probably be Nerfed enough to make the Sisters, Balck Templars, and Dark Angels yet to come out beat them into the ground without even sweating. I thought GKs would be a bit bad, but they are just sooo Broken, only massed heavy tank and artillery armies have a chance against them.

Yeah, the kits and bits are going to be a goldmine for all marine players to spice up their vanilla armies. I think Dark Angel players are going to be happy about the Apothicary bits in the termie box.

To those who don't like the Dreadknights:

Right. In a universe where standard sidearms include fully automatic RPG launchers, ninja death star machine guns and temporary portals leading direct to hell, and 100' tall walking battle cathedrals go toe to toe with giant insects, an exo-suit is "over the top".

It's competing with Imperial Guardsmen in the "relatively mundane things that will kill you on a 40k battlefield" stakes.

And for those who don't like Driago's fluff:

I wanna see what the next Wraithlord is and how it matches up

Haven't seen then real codex yet, so can't say anything but from what i've heard the Knight is slightly less tough or strong, but has better in every other stat line.

Really hope the next Wraithlord gets an invulnerable save as a) it makes no sense the eldar sending their most revered dead heros into battle with no kinda protection beyond physical toughness. Hell nearly everything that can actually wound a Wraithlord ignores it armour saves....

Beasts of war unbox the black box. Near the end, they show a few pages of the codex. Here's a bit, summarized:

All Nemesis weapons are force weapons as per BRB. Brotherhood of psykers means that in CC, a unit of GKs only has to pass one single psychic test, and then the entire unit's weapons inflict instant death. IC's roll seperately, and the roll is done at the highest initiative step within the unit that actually causes a wound.

Daemonbane: Any daemon/psyker wounded (unsaved) by a nemesis force weapon must pass a leadership test at the end of the assault phase or be removed as a casualty. This is completely independant of the force weapon ability.

Nemesis Daemonhammer is a Thunderhammer with all the NFW rules as well. A Dreadknight with a Daemonhammer strikes at initiative.
