Hello and thanks for checking out my list.

I'm a guard player who has accumulated enough marines to start a second army. I wanted to send it though the crucible of the BOLs forum before I buy/convert some of the final figs.

It's a very basic army, I've seen several similar lists on this forum. I'm not good enough to be "beat face" competitive, but I want somthing I can bring to a tourney and be a challenge.

HQ
Libby w/ Stormbolter
(probably Avenger and Might of the ancients)
(rides with Termies in LR)

Troop
Tactical with flamer/missile
melta bomb
Las/Plas Razorback

Troop
Tactical with flamer/missile
melta bomb
Las/Plas Razorback

Troop
5 scouts with melta bomb, maybe a flamer if I can find the points (rinding in LS Storm below)

Elite
5 Tactical Termies
Land Raider (standard) with multi melta (might juggle points to get extra armor)

Elite
Rifleman dreadnought

Elite
Rifleman dreadnought

Fast
Land Speeder Storm
Multi Melta

This army doesn't require a brain: combat squad the tacticals. Set half on objectives while firing missiles. Rest of army rides out to meet enemy and contest objectives.

Love to hear any comments/improvements/poetry

1. Land speeder storm is fairly worthless, at least in a competitive sense. A normal LS delivers more firepower, and no one is scared of 5 scouts. For that matter, 5 scouts aren't much good. A competitive opponent has a good chance of having something popping up in your backfield and wiping out scouts sitting on an objective, and other units are far better than scouts on the frontlines.

I would cut the storm and scouts and get a pair of normal LSs.

2. Always take extra armor on Land Raiders. Always. It's an automatic include under any circumstance. You're investing a lot of points in order to deliver something into combat. Getting stunned when you could have avoided it can lose you the game.

3. You need a few more things that can kill AV 14. A pair of LSs with multi-meltas can do this, and I would take some melta on one of your tactical squads.

Hi
Thanks for posting 1500 pts. I' new and that's my max right now. I like your troops set-up w/ razorbackI would love to have another one of those and another Dread. I have a funky hand-me-down Land Raider proxy that I just started using. I run a full tac squad and Cpt. in it w/ flamers.
Take a look...HQ 90 Commander Zor - Power sword, Combi-Melta, melta bombs, Artificer armor

Assault 195 Alpha Squad - combi-flamer, m-bombs, Flamer plus 8 pistol/ccw, frag +krak

255 Land Raider - TL/bolter sponsons, Multi-melta,TL assault cannon, storm bolt,

Deep Strike 290 6xTerminators - 2x Assault Cannon, Power Sword, 5xPF, m bombs, 4xS-bolter

Trans/support 105 Razorback - TL plasmagun, Lascannon, pintle storm, smoke, x-armor, searchlight

Troops 110 Hunter Squad - pistol/ccw, lascannon, plasmagun, 3 bolters
128 Scouts - 4x sniper, autocannon, m -bombs, T-homer

Elite 115 Dreadnaught - TL autocannon, S-bolter, ccw, X-armor, T-homer, smoke

Hvy Support 85 Whirlwind - X-armor, smoke, searchlight

135 Devestators - 3x missle, 2x bolters

I am not sure how you get a 90 point commander when the minimum point value with no wargear is 100.

not to mention, with your current point values you are 8 over (nevermind that you are missing 60 points from your commander.

They won't reliably kill much, but by going flat out on the scout move they can perform an easy first-turn assault out of their open topped transport, which is a great way to lock down units like devastator squads, long fangs, and dark reapers, or to slap grenades onto vehicles that haven't moved yet. However, it loses a lot of punch if you don't win the roll to go first, so whether the disruption unit is worth 150 points or not is debatable. I've had it work for me more often than not, and outflanking when you go second isn't horrible either.

If you do drop the scouts, I'd consider adding another scoring unit. Running land speeders as contesting forces instead can work, but I'd be worried about only having 20 scoring bodies on the table.
