Alright, so I'm a new poster on the boards and I recently got into a conversion spree. I guess I'm just asking for comments and constructive criticism on these guys.

First: My Tyranid Hive Tyrant. I've also got a Tyranid Prime for a budget option, but I got him for free so I figured, why not? Of course, you can imagine I was bummed when I found there were no wings in there, so.. I made my own.

Yeah. Took me about two and a half blister's worth of greenstuff for the wings, along with some spare bits (genestealer scything talongs for the claws), and a lot of steel wire. I essentially followed the wing tutorial by Mandragore Miniatures (link in the article here (http://www.greenstuffsculpting.com/2010/04/tutorial-wings.html)). This was actually my first major conversion with green stuff, and while I got a bit overeager with it, I guess, I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. Though apparently my control over the 'stuff isn't as good as I'd like it to be - seems like I'm going to have to sand the membranes a bit for some extra smoothness before base-spraying it (again).

And yes, the wings ended up so big they'd scrape the table, so I had to raise the base a bit. The extension's an empty porcelain makeup can of some sort my mother donated - *just* the right size!

Anyhow. Here's my other conversion, one that's a bit fresher - my new Venerable Dreadnought. Originally I pretty much bought him just for the plasma cannon (and I like putting dreads together, sue me). And then.. I got creative. Always a scary thing when that happens.

Apologies for the flash, for some reason my camera refuses to focus on anything closer that ten feet with it off.

Yes, 'tis a Dread with a fairly large hammer. I ended up building a melta onto the CC arm before I remembered that right, only Ironclad dreads came with one. I'd already plopped a Hunter Killer from an IC onto his shoulder just for looks, though, so I guess that makes him a Venerable Ironclad. The hammer's made out of a length of sprue for the handle and a few spare bits from the dread set for detail, plus some plasticard and a couple spare armor plates and sarcophagus covers around a greenstuff core for the head of the hammer. The pommel's a Genestealer skull from the Genestealer Brood box. I was planning on playing it as a regular DCCW, but I guess it'd fill in nicely for a Seismic Hammer, too :p

Anyhow, after putting him together like that, I ended up thinking. And thinking. And then I had a brainstorm. This is the point where people start diving for cover.

Is it a twin-linked lascannon? It used to be. Flamestorm cannon? Noooo, think big(ger). Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you.. a Dreadnought-sized Conversion Beamer. It's made purely for fun (I might make myself rules for a homebrew special character, something like a dreadnaught-clad Master of the Forge for my chapter), built out of the twinked lascannon mount, two thirds of a flamestorm cannon, the feeder bit for the FSC, and the underslung gun mount for a Land speeder, with a pair of spotlights jammed in there. The armor plating on top of the barrel base is made out of a spare shinplate from the Ironclad box.

Hopefully I'll have the time and drive to paint these suckers sometime soon, but if any of you would like to chime in with ideas on how to improve the work before doing that - I'd love to hear it ^^ Constructive criticism and tips are always welcome!

Love the Tyrant. It gives the impression it's shielding itself from enemy fire with his wings. Very cool. I'd like to see it finished to see how you tie in the base extension.

Love the idea of the hammer, but it seems a bit crooked

Thank you! I'm glad you liek him. I was originally thinking of doing a 'wings spread, awr' pose, but then figured I'd best keep him a bit more 'compact' to make transporting him easier. Though the base extension makes myself wonder, too - originally I was planning on making a magma base for him like for the rest of my nids, standing upon a solid rock in a pool of magma (you can see the DASmass rock on the base, the sand and slate around it being the magma) but I'm not too sure how good that'd look with the extension. Either way his wingtips would be under the surface of the magma >.>

That's actually me not having yet figured how to sculpt straight lines with greenstuff :p
