Just some background for one of the chapters which will take centre stage in the campaign book 'Battle For the Augran Nebula' (See my blog for more details.).

Disciples of Vulkan

Homeworld- Remambron VI
Established- M.39

"Cool, Reload, FIRE! Cool, Reload, FIRE! Cool, Reload, FIRE!"

Battle chant associated with Captain Rathalon of the Disciples of Vulkan 4th company

The exact reasons for the founding of the Disciples of Vulkan are unknown; Indeed members of the inquisition consider it suspicious how the chapter just suddenly appeared in Imperial Records. However it is generally considered to be one of the more successful products of the Salamanders geneseed. The Disciples of Vulkan are unusually zealous and are utterly determined to locate their missing primarch.

The sheer number of Heavy Weaponry the Disciples employ in their warfare is stunning to behold. Just seconds after their deployment huge explosions and detonating missiles detonate both the enemy and the landscape. Planets liberated by the chapter often find everything they hold dear utterly razed not by the enemy but by their saviours. While the sheer combined weight of the weaponry and plentiful supplies of ammunition can impede the mobility of a Disciple of Vulkan strike force, few enemies can withstand a salvo of fire from such an army. Even the Dreadnoughts employed by the chapter are armed with Castellan Launchers (Essentially highly explosive versions of the Castellan Missiles that appear on a Whirlwind tank.), providing mobile yet durable firepower on the battlefield.

One of the most recent battlefields to feel the fury of the chapter are the planets surrounding the Augran Nebula, which came under assault from the Big Mek Snugtoof armoured strike force, a whole fleet of Eldar pirates and a splinter fleet of Hive Fleet Santar. In fact the entire chapter was present defending the Holy Fortress Of St Lucian, where the Hive Fleet met it's end and the Eldar were driven offworld despite their capture of Captain Noiran of the Sable Swords. The Disciples of Vulkan have great respect for the Sable Swords, having fought back to back with them during the campaign and have donated several units of their own to aid in the search for Captain Noiran.

Many view the sheer amount of Heavy Weaponry that the Disciples of Vulkan can bring to bear as very unusual and more than a little suspicious. It has even been known for Bolters to be outnumbered by missile launchers in certain engagements. Other chapters whisper of the planet Forgefane, a mighty Iron Warrior fortress planet, and the secretive activities conducted by the Disciples as the Tyranid menace ripped the life from the planet. Others point to secretive deals with the Adeptus Mechanicus, or even a Salamanders plot. Whatever the truth is, those who are foolish enough to criticise the chapter openly will often be silenced by the smoking barrel of a Plasma Cannon, or more likely several of them.

I love the idea of a dreadnought with a whirlwind missile launcher! Would be an ace looking model!
