Hey Guys and Girls

Has anyone used the GW Basing Kits? Are they any good and do you get a decent amount of slate/resin bits?

In case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, here are the links;

Any advice people can give will be helpful :)

As with all GW stuff, it's an expensive way of doing it.

I haven't used the fantasy one but here are my comments on the rest:

Small basing slate (9/10) = very useful and you only use a pinch at a time so it lasts for ages More natural looking than sand but easier to paint than gravel

Medium basing slate (7/10) = also very useful but you'll go through it very fast, especially with large bases

Resin (5/10) = get quite a few pieces but they stand very proud from the base which means you need to fill a lot to get it level,also pretty easy to create your own with a decent sized bits box as they're mostly discarded equipment, helmets etc.

brass = (6/10) good, but you only get a tiny sheet so it's gone very quickly, recommend you save it for characters

Overall, it might be worth splashing out once as the 40K version is slightly cheaper but not a repeat purchase

I used bits from GW basing kits on these models shown below if you want to see some examples. I also used custom cut bits of my own and the slate that comes with the basing kits.

Nce! How do you stick it down? Just PVA like basing sand and flock or superglue?

Nce! How do you stick it down? Just PVA like basing sand and flock or superglue?Thanks. You'll want to use super-glue to stick resin scenic bits to the styrene plastic base and then super-glue to attach the styrene plastic models to the resin bits if you want them to stand upon them. Note that some of the scenic bits shown above are from the out-of-print Urban Basing Kit, but a few are from the current 40K Basing Kit. There are also several custom cut pieces I made from my bits box.
