View Full Version : Storm Raven, I've made a few modifications myself...

Chopped the top and mounted the lascannons on a wing hard-point. Also magnetized the dread which has just enough clearance...

Good job man! It's actually looking a lot less ridiculous now. I like ti a lot.
I though of buying one somewhere in the vague future and moving the wings forward to make it less front-heavy. Seeing as you actually own one, would it be a hard thing to do to relocate the wings forward? Not on yours I mean, just in general.

Not necessarily. If you check out the spikey bits blog http://blog.spikeybits.com/ you can see the wings and engine are seperate. I may cause door issues and you'd have to fill in some gaps, it just depends on how comfortable you are with card stock.

At least major converting wont involve much cutting of the initial kit, things are pretty separate. Now to find some damn rivets like the GW ones....

I like that.

I may keep the top turret just for awhile before I can get a Psycannon or Lascannon turret for the Razorback from FW.

but that air intake...thats got to go...

Massive improvement! Now it really looks like a mini Thunderhawk. Only issue I see here is that the tail-fins are on backwards (almost everyone has been glueing them on backwards for some reason). Nicely done!

that's the way i want to have one !
Thank you for making this nice conversion so quick :)

Can we have more and some closer shot of :
the top ?
the dread ?
the magnet system without the dread ?

I really really like this and yes more pics plz!

Looks good, I'm sticking to my initial reaction that the wings should be lower on the chassis.

I'm wondering if the vent could be flipped round and used to create a bulkier tail section and I think I'll use that clunky landing gear as my dread clamp.

Roll on next week.

Sorry to tell you - the tail fins are on backwards - the flaps should be at the back :(

Other than that, I think this looks cleaner than GW's version. I think the turret was unnecessary

Nice conversion job. My friend Jeff did the same thing over on his blog (http://theadeptsforge.blogspot.com/):

Hmmm I wonder what it would look like with the engines+wings forward, on top of the hull, with the engine housings together. A bit like the engine layout on a Hind or Puma helicopter...

Argggg! That's funny, I can't believe I screwed up the tail fin. I've even logged flight hours towards my licence, how embarrassing. That's for catching that one, I'll have to rip off and repair.

I'll post some magnet shots tonight. It was easy and they did leave clearance, my dread's feet even dangle. I didn't bury the magnet on the dread but you could, I just plan on hiding it with a sensor or two...

I stand very corrected, thank you!

This aviation luddite will now place a piece of tape over his fat mouth LMAO

Will she make 0.5 past light speed?

I've checked the horizontal stabilizer and man, I really don't like it the way it's supposed to sit. But I'm not sure how I could re-sculpt the elevators either...

Just when I thought I was really happy with the kit...

I do like Jeffs, its what convinced me to go for it. Thanks for posting...

Since all the cool kids are doing it I'm going to take the nitpicking even furtheras the elevators would still actually work if we look at the physics of it. They would just lose a minor amount of efficiency with the air currents move over them slightly differently, though it matters even less then that considering the box construction of the wings.

I like your solution to the former top weapons better than the other example where is looks just stuck on the landing gear case, but I still think it needs more work.

One option would be to head over to FW and grab either the punisher cannons for the under the wing mount. They would just look mean. Or their lascannons mounts. In other words, make the under wing look intentional.

But with the above, you loose a lot of fire arc.

I was wondering if you put a SM gunner in each doorway with a single weapon mounted on a swing arm like the valk heavy bolter. Then you can get your fire arc back, and either one counts as twin-linked. It would look cool with SM gunners.

They would also function backwards. (AKA Up would be nose down and down would be nose up)

Well, if you want RL proof,; the Russian PAK/FA actually has forward facing elevators/aileron, specifically designed to make it hyper-maneuverable so that, together with its 3D vectoring engines, it can run circles around an F-22, or dodge a high-G missile.
The forward-facing ailerons are just in front of the wing root, serving also as a LERX.

Yes... and this is what I intended all along... see, my brilliance comes to light...

>crickets<

Anyway, thanks for the discussion, it has been helpful and I've actually been studying up on my aerodynamics. I love that Jes says he was going for the design of a vertical fist and I even use that example when I teach basic physics to kids (you don't stick your fist out of the window of a fast moving car, you lay your hand flat...)
