So how do the FAQ changes effect you? (if at all)
I am mostly happy with them, all they had to do was fix the ECs 4++ and grenades and I would happily wait till 2013 for a new dex, and buy some new plasticrack.
So good.

Vindi's with the real POTMS - heck any vechile with the real POTMS! Assault Termies rocking out like vanilla termies only with re-rolls from ACC! I was seriously thinking about dabbling over to the Blood Angels, now I have no doubt about playing the Templars.
Greenwing and Ravenwing still kinda suck compared to the vanilla's - can't reprice the whole book I guess... but scoring TH & SS terminators? Maybe some people will come over from Loganwing but I doubt it.

Considering that this is exactly what tons of players have been wanting for years now, it's a very good thing. It takes the older, hurting codices and gives them a helping hand until they get a new codex.
Except for Daemonhunters:(. They were too lazy to copy/paste stuff over to the DH FAQ as it is going away in 3 months anyways. I can't really complain as I'm getting a new codex out of the deal, though.

Glad to have the DE one out, and rule basically the way I expected for everything (haha! my common sense is supreme!). I'm glad to see old marine dexes getting an official update, they could certainly use the love. I'm baffled at ATSKNF granting an extra move. Not being penalized is fine (i.e. moving normally) but you shouldn't be rewarded with an extra 50% movement for falling back.

Maybe they run faster while fleeing?
But yay! Now if they could just drop all marines cost with 1p, or give us free grenades I'd be set and happy without a new codex.

I disagree. The change to Typhoons and CMLs makes a world of difference, and coupled with the SS update it's amazing. TH/SS terminators with CMLs is incredible! Cheap Typhoons is incredible as well.

I thought I made a post of it, where did it go? Anyway, what FAQ are you talking about?
I went to the GW faq section it says latest changed January 2011, but I see no FAQ that was changed in January 2011.
What am I missing?
*edit* Oh, I see, SM got FAQ. Funny thing, I checked out Dark Angels since I play them, and they have been updated, BUT it still says last date editied Dec. So more poor copy paste from GW. But still nice non the less to have finally.
I guess this means GW got less sales, and this is a way to improve sales perchance? Anyone else besides SM got an update?

All three of the codices I use didn't get a change so I can hardly give an opinion on a non-existent change.

Question > now that the DA and BT have been updated, is it complete inexcusable for DA and BT players to be using Vanilla, SW and BA codexes?

It's a game. Let people have fun. But it would be interesting to here what the excuses were though. Curious, what do you say when Ultramarine players were using the SW or BA codex? I haven't seen it but herd of it happening though.

LMFAO. Page 4 (listed as 4 on final page) in the Space Marine codex, it says Warhammer armies: Vampire Counts.
Talk about pathetic copy and pasting. Is a kindergarten toddler doing this? :P

There's still the downsides of having significantly more expensive vehicles, and not having very strong special characters. Their drop pods are also lacking Drop Pod Assault.

DE got an FAQ so it wasnt all SM :P
All the 3ed Codices will probably get done this year, or so say the rumour mill, and I cant think of any issues the others really have....

Imperial Guard, of course.
Never knew you were a guard collector. So no xenos for you eh?
I'm indifferent, especially on the missile launchers.
assoult terminators aren more expensive in the marine book than in the old marine books but the special missile launchers had their price icnreased dramatically when their ROF doubled.
now those old armies get them for the cheap price and effective ROF. I think none of them is in any way eligible to cry anymore (other than maybe that the cyclones are a must-take now).

Some good. Some bad. Some silly. A lot of the BT stuff makes for a really cool army for the long suffering Sword Brethren.
At least till they get "nerfed" when the actual Codex is released. Do any of you really think that BT will keep PotMS on anything other than Land Raiders? And that all the other cool or cheap stuff will be the same? Not bloody likely. And while I won't feel any pity for anyone who jumps to BT to take advantage of some perceived uber-power list, I'll warn the old timers not to get too comfortable with any of the weird combos of 3rd and 5th gaming.
Based on the BA Codex-PDF-PDF upgrade-Codex roller coaster it might be hard to recognize a lot of what you think makes BT special when they do release the new book. Not that it will be bad, just that I'd imagine some major changes. Of course they'll still have the second coolest looking chapter in the game regardless.:D

Well as a BT player (well i have some 1000p eldar but...) I'm mostly glad that items were updated. It always seemed silly to me that my storm shields would be worse than the normal space marine ones. I really don't see why the didn't just release a faq saying "wargear or rules that has the same name and appear in C:SM uses the C:SM rules instead"
Sure we can hope for some new stuff, some better cheaper rhinos, free grenades and stuff like that but really, this was all I wished for, that my equipment would be just as good as the normal Space Marines. Fight discrimination where ever it may occur!

I didn't hear any complaints about dicriminiation when BT could do things that other SM can't.
When you say fight dicriminiation, doesn't that really mean "jealousy"? :p

01-17-2011, 08:10 AM
it's never discrimination if you are the one benefiting from it right?
While it might seem that BT is overpowered and we all know that everyone suffers from massive envy due to our awesome black armor, having the same equipment makes it a bit more fair, too bad they didn't change the drop pod assault rules

Bearing in mind the only part you really should abide by is the Errata, the FAQ part is optional, I'm quite pleased with the FAQs relevent to my armies (Dark Eldar, pretty much it). The Errata makes it clear you can have more than one Webway portal active, which is nice. If you couldn't have more than one they wouldn't need to state that a portal has to be placed 2" away from any enemy model or another portal.
They also refute the absurd argument you can't take Sliscus if youdon't have Trueborn or warriors in your army.
Bur my absolute favourite:
Q: Can the Dais of Destruction take any of the vehicle
upgrades available to Raiders? (p82)
A: No.
Told you so.:p

i play my DA as orks currently... What do you think about that?
JK
As an old player (2nd ed) that recently got back into the hobby i was very sad panda to see the first of all the legions given such neglect by GW, but at least letting them have equipment on par with everyone else... yeah very good move, especially because they had to FAQ people asking about BT and DA using codex equipment when CSM came out. I should have been an obvious move, better late than never. Anyone else smell the "wargear of space marines book" being writen at GW right now... lol
Only thing that sux is iv been putting together BA for the last month and half for tourney play, (they are my second pick anyway).

I'm surprised that I seem to play most of the same armies as Melissa.
Aside from that, I'm always happy to see folks get an FAQ for their books. As it's been pointed out, the Dark Angels and Black Templars have had the rather odd gear for a while; updating them definitely makes sense.
I'm in the group a little confused by the extra 3" from And They Shall Know No Fear, but I'm willing to see how it plays out on the tabletop.

Greenwing as vanilla doesn't bother me as much as the BT players - "Ima Black Templar, no wait a Vanilla, a Space Wolf? ohhh right the Blood Angels just got an update - my Emperor's Champion is now Mephiston!"

Well actually I don't see why not? It's of course a bit boring if he always uses the same models, but if you put wings on the Champ and call him Champinator so what? It's all good as long as you know what you are fighting.
Hell, I can see myself playing CSM using space marine models, why not? Anyone can fall from the Emperor's light.
(Having to burn my hands for playing such heritical marines however would be slightly annoying)

So long as you're WYSIWYG I don't mind. A space marine with a plasma gun is a space marine horns or not. But the minute you start proxying things and it interrupts gameplay "hey I just charged you're dreadnought" > "no that's my demon prince!" then I start to get annoyed.
