View Full Version : Shark-themed Marine bits?

I didn't think I'd ever get the urge to do a Space Marine army. Then Forgeworld came out with that model of Tyberos and I changed my mind. I've loved sharks since I was a kid and the idea behind the Carcharodons (or Space Sharks if you prefer) Chapter seems pretty cool to me. As such, I've decided to make a small Carcharadons force to try my hand at making something completely different from the Orks I'm used to. I'd really like them to look good and sharky, but I can't seem to find any third party bits with a shark theme.
My question: Does anyone out there know where I can find some good shark-themed bits? Maybe shoulder pads or Rhino/Land Raider doors?
Thanks!
(P.S.: If you didn't already know, Carcharodon is the scientific name for the genus of sharks including the extinct Carcharodon megaladon and the present day Carcharodon carcharias or Great White Shark. I've seen much humorous disagreement from Latin-speakers on a few other sites trying to find the meaning behind the name change and thought I'd help clear it up. Just spreading a little sharky knowledge to my friends at BOLS.)

Tyranid spikes or Dark Eldar splinter rifle bayonets used as fins? Those spring to mind. I think you'll basically do best by simply letting the paint job do the talking.

Since FW just released a new model for the space sharks, or Carcharodons, I guess they will probably release other resin minis, symbols and upgrade parts (rhino doors, land raider parts, etc). This is exactly what hapened with the red scorpions and the Raven Guard (first models for commander Culln and captain Korvydae, then conversion sets, land raider doors, shoulder pads, etc...).
If I were you, I would be to wait a bit and see if FW intends to release other "sharky" products.

I guess that's true. I was hoping to find something a bit cheaper, but I have a feeling you're probably right about that.

Actually, have you read BoLS campain book for the Badab War? There are some interesting examples about Carcharodons (they were still called space sharks at the time) conversions in this book. Some of these cnversions are actually quite cool, here's the link for the pdf version of BoLS' badab war:

Here is also an article containing some nice pics about a Carcharodons army:

I hope you will find these links usefull for your own carcharodons.

Well if you want to do some space sharks you could paint each squad in the colors of a different shark. You could have your terminators painted like the great white, white on the front with grey on the back. If you have any jump pack marines you could have them painted like some makos. Just painting them like sharks might not be enough to get the point across though so you might be able to get some tiny shark teeth to decorate their vehicles and give the marines giant shark tooth trophys. You could also get some wicked looking fish hooks to replace their chain swords.

a fin down the center of a helmet would look great, as would jaws painted onto a beakie helmet

Thanks for the help guys! I've never seen that BOLS article and it gave me quite a few ideas (love the capes!)
And JxKxR, that fish hook idea is awesome. I live in a fairly rural area so just about everywhere sells fish hooks of all shapes and sizes. I think representing close combat weapons with hooks also gives them a more brutal, almost horror movie killer appearance, which fits their fluff perfectly (Not to mention, they're like 30 for five dollars). I'll just have to make sure to dull them down a bit so I don't hook myself.
I also think you guys are right about the paintjob. I think that, combined with a few well applied spots of gore made from sand, paint, and glue should give them a nice murderous look.
Again, thanks for all the advice!
