To paint a Battlewagon...

Hiya guys

Later today I plan to paint a GW Battlewagon.

I was planning to
- Undercoat it black
- Give it a heavy dry-brush of boltgun metal
- Heavy wash of Badab black
- Paint most of the panels 'roughly' red
- Give some of the other pannels a devlan mud wash
- Give everything a drybrush of chainmail

So, how does that sound? As I have never painted anything orky before I was wondering if that would work.

Sounds like a good plan.

I would keep the last Chainmail drybrush very light and only hitting the edges though. Also using Gryphonne Sepia and/or Ogryn Flesh on various panels helps with the rusty mishmashed look.

Thanks for that, I never thought of using Ogryn flesh for a wash for some panels

That is more or less exactly what I did with my battlewagon, except I did a few panels with other colours too. Mine was bits of metal looted from other vehicles and welded/bolted together. The red paint job (on the non-red panels!) was simply badly brushed on by grotz! I may have a pic or two around here somewhere...

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread! But is this the kind of thing you were thinking about?

As steelmage said, different washes on different panels will help give you a nice look over all. I'd also suggest, after the washes have dried, using gryphonne sepia and badab black washes to suggest oil drips and the like.

I know the photography isn't bvrilliant, but my camera is all that good either :( If you have any tips on how to photograph better, please let me know :D
