Base to Base for vehicular assaults

Greetings,
Question regarding vehicular assaults by infantry:
To attack a vehicle you must be in base to base or can you be within 2" of a model in base to base as per infantry vs infantry assaults?

A rule book page reference would be nice as well...

In short, yes.

To attack anything, including vehicles, in CC, you check two things.

1. Models in base to base contact must attack the model(s) that they are in base contact with. They may not attack models they are not in base contact with.

2. If a model is not in base contact, they may direct their attacks at anything in base contact with another model in the same unit, so long as they are within 2" of that model.

For some reason I thought to attack a vehicle at all, models MUST be in base to base.

Keep in mind Independent Characters still have to be in base to base, as they act as seperate units when striking and being struck back at.
