So... what would be good ideas on how to produce some peasant/civilian miniatures? If nothing else then to have as part of the scenery, and maybe even a tangible target to defend (if playing Imperial Guard or Space Marines) and attack (Orks, etc.). I'd be willing to get them from other lines and manufacturers if they're the same scale as 40K.

Closest GW has come to making peasants is... this:

Those are actually pretty good. Bet they're overpriced, though.

Actually, the Empire Free Company models aren't bad. It's easy to just add in some Imperial Guard parts or accessories and make a few hive nobels or Rogue Traders with their assorted bodyguards, retinues, and hangers-on... ;)

I've found throwing in a Space Marine arm with no shoulder pad makes for a fine "human-scale" bionic arm, too. ;)

The Empire Free Company looks a lot like what I'm thinking about. Except they're all men.

I'm wanting to see men, women and children: just regular people living out their lives on a planet in the Imperium, until the day that Orks or Chaos or Tyranids arrive on their world and threaten everything that they hold dear...and then the Space Marines and/or Imperial Guard arrives to defend them.

I could even see where such a thing might be a neat, fun and workable supplement to a 40K game :)

That dog looks just like Scooby-Doo! THAT would be the perfect thing to throw into a Warhammer 40,000 game: as soon as he sees a Chaos Daemon he runs 24 inches :p

don't you mean he spends one turn running on the spot, then moves 24" :D

yeah hasslefree does the whole gang, scooby velma daphne freddy and shaggy, under different names of course.

i would definately go for a few hasslefree guys, they have really stong characters though (which might stick out like a sore thumb in a game of 40k), so just stick to the generic kind of people, with guns and body armour etc.

Heresy does a line of sci-fi inspectors. If you don't mind using figures from another company they'd make for good hostages / objectives.
