Ork Army Project

[Brass Scorpion]

I just finished a Warboss for my new Ork army, my first Orks since 40K Rogue Trader about 20 years ago! You can vote on it in my Dakka Gallery (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/163517-Ork%20Warboss%20Gutczec.html?m=2). It's my painting contest entry at GW Annapolis this month as well as the paint test for the rest of the army.

I also built about 130 Ork infantry of varying types during the past week. I guess I'll be painting Orks for a while!

Nice work mate. The skin tone is quite similar to my orks. How did you achieve it?

I agree with SotonShades, a whole army like this will look good.
I try to fit the fluff of the older and grizzled Orks have darker skin, so I like how it is presented here.

130 Boyz you say!?! I have the same problem.
I have 110 Boyz myself with 30 Gretchin and 15 Nobz and it is tough to keep up with all that green!

Yeah, I have 100+ Orks to paint myself, not to mention the rest of the army! Good luck with it, man! ^-^

What's your Warboss' name? Got any background for the army yet?

EDIT: Actually, I have some constructive criticism concerning the paintjob on your Warboss. Just a little thing, I think the glyph on his waist would look better in one colour. ^^'

Thanks for the comments and feedback everyone. For the moment at least, his working name is "Gutczec" (gut-check) as per my post in my Dakka Gallery (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/163517-Ork%20Warboss%20Gutczec.html?m=2).

To answer the skin painting question, it's painted Orkhide Shade, shaded with Devlan Mud directly in the low areas without washing, then highlighted with Snot Green and finally Scorpion Green.

The rest of "da boyz" might be shaded with a more "dip and flick" or full wash technique and highlighted with drybrushing just to speed things up, but I'll try and stick to the cleaner methods used here for the characters at least.

I'm planning to build plastic Tankbustas and Kommandos using the stikkbomz and tankbusta bomz that come in the multi-part plastic kits. I've got tons of stuff to do for this army, so I'm going to try and give it the fast track as far as batch painting the bulk of the models. If all goes well, I'll post picture updates here. Thanks!

I've been batch painting Orks like crazy and already have about 65 Boyz, 21 'Ard Boyz, 14 Shoota Boyz, 9 Lootas, 9 Burnas and several Nobz and Rokkit Launchas done, all in about a month.
