View Full Version : 2 outflanking blob platoons too much

So today I was dorking around in army builder with IG... and realized I could take Creed and Al Rahem. Al Rahem would cause one platoon to outflank and Creed would cause another platoon to outflank. In your opinion gentlemen, would 2 outflanking platoons, each loaded with power weapon Sgts and Commissars be excessive? Since this would be an all infantry list, I'd have a platoon to hold home objectives with heavy weapons teams getting orders from Creed as necessary.
Thoughts?

Anything that puts more boots on the ground, and less treads in the parking lot, sounds good to me. Plus, having 50+ guys (plus any special weapon squads you brought) outflanking would be pretty scary for most armies... I'd say it's at least worth trying!
I'd definitely consider bringing some Special Weapon Squads with the outflankers, though, both for target saturation and mobile firepower... also, Demo charges are fun.

sounds like fun.
having witnessed an outflanking platoon including 50 conscripts, i can say that it is most unerving.
you could quite easily outflank 100 conscripts and 100 regular infantry.

Creed only outflanks one unit, mind you. Al'Rahem outflanks his whole platoon.
With Al'Rahem you can outflank so much, I don't know if I see a need for Creed to outflank just one more blob. They're probably better off on the table, so you can control the table a bit more with movement. I wouldn't put Creed in for that.
If you've already got Creed planned, I think he'd be best outflanking a support unit for the Al'Rahem platoon. In terms of a vehicle, I'd say a Hellhound could put in some hurt. Russes are a popular choice, but a large blast could scatter and put too much pain on your own guys. Another option, though, would be to outflank a Strakken CCS, outfitted for war. I've never done it, nor do I know how points efficient it would be, but it sure sounds fun to me. That would be more orders for the outflankers, more meltas at BS4, and another punchy CC unit. I guess Creed could also outflank himself, again for orders.

It's even more fun if you give each blob a Priest with Eviscerator. Makes the prospect of assault just that little more frightening.

I understand Creed outflanks 1 unit. However, isn't a blob platoon considered only 1 unit for game purposes?
I've used demo charges a couple times and every time they have failed me. And a 30 pt 1 shot isn't really great to me.
SWS are a decent idea but with only BS3, LD7, and 6 models, its like a neutered command squad.

My demo charges always fail, too... I didn't say they were effective, just fun.
And with SWS, it's all about quantity, not quality. You'll have the command squad anyway with trip meltas, the SWS are just there to add more mass firepower on a flank. If you're really concerned, you can use non-BS weapons, like Frag Grenade launchers, flamers, and Demos.

A blob is one unit if combined, but the rest of the platoon (PCS, HWS, SWS) is separate, even though it only takes up one Force Org Choice. If the whole platoon is in reserve, they're all rolled for at once, but it would still be only one unit that has Outflank. In Al'Rahem's case, his rule specifically says the whole platoon must outflank.

Reminds me of a game of apocalypse where one player brought the green tide around our flank in the 3rd turn. 100 orks OMG it took 2 whole turns of concentrated fire to clear them out, and we ignored his other troops that we should have been targeting as well. Sounds scary to me.
Especially since I only have1 army that could handle them - my unofficial BOLs minidex based Arbites army. The other armies I have would find it a challenge - CSM, Daemons, Sisters and Traitor Guard.
Let us know how it works.
