After a recent Ebay spurge i found myself with quite a few (as in 30) khorne berserkers for a relatively cheap price. Within a week, i find out some of my friends are starting a Horus Heresy campaign. SCORE! and so i went and spent more money to sort myself an army...

Yeah.. lets not say how much i spent in relation to how much i *meant* to spend...

Anyway, on to business.

I am going to use the chaos codex over any of the UltraAngel DarkBloodWolves lists as it is the best fit to just be able to spam khorne berserkers. I could use blood claws but then... i would have WS3.. hmmm, nah lets go with what i know :P

List Themes

Infantry only <- Since it is Heresy all the vehicles will be of a different mark. Also my last army spammed tanks and I am bored of them. Im sure many of people will claim having berserkers without rhinos is suicide. but thats why ill take more berserkers =D

Mutations <- The timespan of this army is in the midst of the heresy, around the time of the siege of the emperors palace, maybe a little bit later. Because of this the rampant influence of chaos is abound and rife throughout the legion.

Heroes <- Angron will be converted, at some point. and Khan will also make an appearence. I really really really (really) want to include Skraal. Yay for ninja marines. However not quite sure what happens to him after the battle for the abyss, and we arnt even sure if he turned traitor... time will tell.

Deamons <- This project is eventually going to be turned into two armies. The World Eaters themselves and a Deamon attachment. 2k points of Marines, 1k points of deamons. Ka'Bandha will be making an appearence taking up the roll of skarbrand. Berserkers on Jugganauts will be converted. the rest will be filled up with Bloodletters and Princes.

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD <- Read here.

Here is my prospect list.

Kharn the Betrayer - 165
Chaos Lord w/ bloodfeeder - 150 <-Something to represent Angron, may be replaced with a deamon prince.
10 Chosen, MoK, 5 melta guns - 230 <- Skraal will be included in this unit due to the infiltration.
10 Chosen, MoK, 5 melta guns - 230
5 Khorne Terminators - Reaper AC, 3 Combi Meltas, Chainfist, MOK - 235
9 Khorne Berserkers, skull champ + PW, Melta Bombs - 224
9 Khorne Berserkers, skull champ + PW, Melta Bombs - 224
8 Khorne Berserkers, skull champ + PW, Melta Bombs - 203
8 Khorne Berserkers, skull champ + PF - 209
5 Lesser Daemons - 65 <-lesser deamons will be imperial guard combined with the mantic zombie kits to create traitorous mutants.
5 Lesser Daemons - 65
1999

On to pictures!

Here is my Deamon Prince. I originally intended for him to be Angron. But i am now unsure if i am happy with him. He is converted from Sauron, plastic deamon prince bits, A Black Orc axe, and dark pegusus wings. Thoughts?

My first painted sqaud. White is a B*T*H to paint.

Everything on the shelf waiting to be painted.

Cheers for now, expect an update by the end of the evening.

UPDATE.

I have painted another 10 Berserkers. Nothing much to showcase other than a good *everything i have painted* picture.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i283/yamacon/DSCN1060.jpg

Then main part of the update is a Deamonic Herald i have painted. The Avatars Of War Deamon Champion

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i283/yamacon/DSCN1064.jpg

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i283/yamacon/DSCN1065.jpg

Rather happy with how he came out. I experimented with some gold armour which... failed. And so it is shamelessly copied from the rest of the World Eaters. Thats fine though, it means he fits in more that way.

I'd totally call that a posessed knight Titan.

Yes a Chaos Knight titan was the original sort of look i was going for =]

Next up to come out of the grinder...

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i283/yamacon/DSCN1459.jpg

My Bloodthirster - based on a Beastmen Doombull + extensive pinning and greenstuff - seriously conversion besides, Doombull has to be one of the hardest models to put together.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i283/yamacon/DSCN1453.jpg

His base can be swopped out depending on what sort of game i want to play...

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i283/yamacon/DSCN1468.jpg

And here he is with his underlings. (worlds smallest deamon army? Quite Possible =D)

Hello Lurkers!

Its been a busy evening but at least i have something to show for it =]

I have finished painting the Ironcore (mock up rules coming soon...)

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i283/yamacon/DSCN1472.jpg

Having practised for ages, i finally discovered how to paint blood properly. So without any hesitation, i applied it to the rest of the army to create a decent Berserker Effect (tm)

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i283/yamacon/DSCN1480.jpg

Not bad for saying i painted all of this within a month...

at first I thought the army looked uninspiringly lacking.

but the blood made all the difference. now it looks superb (the red helps to get some contrsting colours). stunning how a little change can make all the difference

how do you do the blood?

A very nice themed army, and in the World Eaters original colours as well.

I have some recommendatoin for the army list though. Kharn, the 2 chosen units and the Terminators are the only ones with icons. I would probably put icons on some of the berserkers squad champions. to ensure the lesser daemons get on the table. Also no vehicle transports, which makes your army very slow. For Khorne armies this is bad.

Most of your weapons except for the Defiler are short range, and an enemy who camps and has lots of artillery wil just shoot you up. Your use of infiltraton will reduce the effect of this, but not enough. Maybe a bike or raptor unit to give you some speed. Obliterators to help with the fire power, and definately Rhino APCs.

I do like the blood on the defiler though.

Sorry if I come across as condescending sometimes, but I like to help out fellow Chaos players, and I think tactically when I design an army, rather than build it suit a theme. This is a good start to for the army, it just needs more mobility and longer range weapons, and more icons.

I was always intending to add the blood. (There Berserkers! How could they not have blood!) But i had not perfected the blood technique and didnt want to ruin them all. After a bit of experiementing i discovered Tamiya Clear Red.

First using a stipple brush, take paint out of the pot and stipple it all over where you want.
Wait a minute for it to dry a bit.
Using a dry stipple brush, stipple all over the blood to make a rough texture.
Mix 5 parts Tamiya Clear Red, to 1 part Vallejo Black Glaize (nice and thick straight out of the pot)
Stipple this ontop of the blood leaving some of the previous layer showing.

Yes im very aware of the weaknesses of this army, but i dont mind so much. This is intended as a themed army more than anything, i know rhinos are needed, but im a bit tired of tanks after my last army (razorback + pred spam). Also my two main opponents are Deamons, and eldar Harlequins (no transports, only armour is 3 wraithlords). I will eventually add some rhinos, but for now im happy with a good ole zerg rush.

Thank you :) I like my defiler so much im going to make 2 more *eventually* to equate to my long range firepower. A Khorne Knight legio is my overall aim.

Thats fine, but its themed to keep tanks out... for now. Besides it isnt so bad that it will get steamrolled(except maybe leafblower..) and if i want to play competitively i can bring my marines out :)

If you live in Sydney, Australia, then we can have a game sure. I never said I play competitively, but tactically.

I learnt a bit while in the regular army, and as a recruit instructor. I also read a lot about combined arms tactics, that is why I tend to play armies that can be flexible, mobile, and have a good mix of close combat, fire power, and can defend as well as assault.

If you have designed the army to be foot based with defilers for support, cool. I would play play against this army sometime.

Tactically is good word to describe my own gaming group actualy, consider it stolen! We dont work to Dick each other over, but a good level of... confidence? is required. Many a game we will lose a good 45 minutes to a single assault phase or movement phase based on discussing what will be the best move. Even going as far as to discuss our tactics openly. Its a good fun way of playing that always brings out the best nailbiting games... (as long as the dice dont openly revolt).

I know what you mean about the dice. When the Chaos god of dice rollng is fickle, I can have a bad game. I often give tips to new gamers when they play 40K against me. It means they get to know the game better, by learning what their army can do, and even learn my playing style. It means harder and more challenging games later on.

But this is diverging from the theme of this thread.

I have read a up on a few techniques on weathering from the Forge World modelling and painting guide, as well as the stuff GW puts out on batle damage. Some of the stuff they talk about would look really good on your miniatures. Khorne berserkers are suppose to be in the thick of it, so I thought dings, dents, bullet grazes, and the like should suit the theme of the army, and with your blood painting technique, you could model some recent battle wounds on the berserkers (like a bleeding bullet wound to the sholder pouldren).

Have you ever thought of putting snow on part of the berserker's bases, and then adding blood to the base so it looks like it has been dripping from weapons, etc to add contrast to the blue and white theme of the warband?

Just throwing some ideas out there.

Possibly i will do when i go back over my models afterwards, but at the moment i have alot of models to paint and a deadline (Horus Heresy Campaign starting soon...) so for now... *theyll do...*

I would... except my previous two armies both had snow bases and im bored of it. Wasteland will remain, and i am planning on making a board to match so its not that all bad =]
