Hey all.

My name is Alec Peters and I run he SoCal Apocalypse CLub out of the GW Los Angeles Battle Bunker. I also run www.apocalypse40K.com (http://www.apocalypse40k.com/), which is a forum dedicated to, what else, Apocalypse sized games!

On January 22nd, 2011 we will be holding the biggest Apocalypse Battle ever at all 4 US Battle Bunkers (L.A., Seattle, Chicago and Memphis) as well as a few tables at Warhammer World in the UK and the Norway Apocalypse Club. All the sites will be linked into one massive game with a common narrative of a whole system under attack.

If you play Apocalypse and want to be part of it, please come and check out the info on our site. We are working with the guys from Siegeworld, the Apocalypse club from Saint Louis who started putting rules and records down for this stuff. And in case you are interested, here are the current records:

Currently, according to Siegeworld (http://siegeworld.com/?q=node/577), the records are:

Most Points in a Single Game

This requires all models to participate in a continuous game on one table, interconnected or otherwise. All models must be painted (3 color) and the game must last 4+ turns over an unbroken time period (eg-with some breaks, but no "pause and come back the next day"). The record was set by Siegeworld in St. Louis MO. on 8/14/10 at 382,000 points

Most Points in a Single Battle

Similar to the above, but models don't need to be painted, and two or more disconnected tables. Anything goes so long as it is interrelated and simultaneous. Allows for multi-location play, discontinuous tables, unpainted minis, etc. No turn requirements. The record was held by Siegeworld at 433,000 points (also the first group to play a 400k game of 40k), but was surpassed in September, 2010 at GMI Games in Riverside, CA with 520,000 points.

Most Tank Models in a Single Battle

Anything with an AV, MCs, and GCs count as one, so long as they're painted. Single battlefield as per the first record and no turn limit (Siegeworld did not break this record) GW Manchester UK holds the title with 2,562 models.

Most Minis in a Single Battle

See Most Points in a Single Battle. Same restrictions apply. This record is anything goes so long as it is interrelated and simultaneous. A miniature is counted as any piece which has its own base or does not use a base. Essentially, if it can be moved on its own (thus a swarm base is a single miniature). Siegeworld is the current holder of the record, at 6,500 minis done in St. Louis MO. on 8/14/10.

So we will be going for both the biggest GAME record, as well as the biggest BATTLE record. I think we will break the MOST MINIS record as well.

If you have a game group that wants to participate, you just need a location and a group of players! Any group can participate in the records for biggest BATTLE. You don't need to have all painted minis (that is only if your location wants to try and break the biggest GAME record, which is currently 382,000 points - which is what the L.A and Seattle Battle Bunkers are going for) you just need to play 4 turns and follow our objective rules for scoring.

So come to the www.apocalypse40K.com (http://www.apocalypse40k.com/) forums and join in!

Alec -

Unfortunately, we've lost our Battle Bunker in Maryland at least for the time being. However, I have checked with the operator at the GW store where I currently put in most of my hobby and community building time and he is interested.

We usually do at least one or two Apoc. battles per month at my local Annapolis, MD GW and as you probably know, I have enough super-heavies and other datasheets covered to well support them as do some of the other regulars. This idea sounds like fun. However, as with most Warhammer communities, having all the models painted for many eager participants is always a problem. Please feel free to PM me here on the Lounge and I'll see what I can do to try and help coordinate this for Annapolis GW.

Bob:

Not painted is NOT a problem. If you are going to be part of the biggest BATTLE, then not painted is OK. We at the L.A. Battle Bunker are going for the biggest GAME record (all painted, one table, 4 turns, one location) as well as the biggest BATTLE (unpainted OK, multiple tables, multiple locations). At the L.A. Battle Bunker we will have two tables because of this (though each table will be 10+ 4' x 8' tables)

So your location can be part of the biggest BATTLE if you don't have enough painted stuff to go for the biggest GAME record.

Ultimately it would be cool for multiple locations to be vying with each other for the biggest GAME record, but ultimately we are all trying TOGETHER to break the biggest BATTLE record, which we will, as the current record of 520,000 points will be blown away. We should have well over 2 million points, maybe 3 million, between all the different locations.

I will PM you as well.

That's great. I have tons of painted models as I'm sure you know, but as you can imagine many in the local community, especially many of the more youthful members, do not. Since it would not be practical or possible to exclude people from an open store event we'll have to go for the version with the loosest painting guidelines.

I wish I could be out there playing on the painted models only table in L.A., that would be awesome. I'd love to play in a game that size just once where everyone else's massive model collections are also painted. The only way I get to do that normally is in one-on-one games with friends with several thousand points each. It would be terrific to be on a massive mega-battle table with all painted models in the hundreds of thousands of points.

I have also pointed this out to a couple area GW managers with whom I am friendly. Hopefully word-of-mouth will generate good participation on this. I'm already thinking about what massive forces I'm going to contribute, a sampling of which can be seen in my Gallery (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/user/13937-BrassScorpion.html).

Alec, have you promoted this event on Dakkadakka? If not, would you like me to post your original post there?

Loken

Yeah, that would be good. I can't get into my Dakka account right now. And Warseer is moderating my posts and not posting them. No clue why That is a TOTAL pain in the butt. What is up with them?

I don't know if you are aware of this, but there's at least one more Battle Bunker in the US--Games Workshop in Alamo California is the official designated Battle Bunker for everything between LA and Seattle. And they do Apocalypse/megabattles all the time, I'd bet they'd be interested if you contacted them.

Games Workshop has only 4 stores officially called Battle Bunkers in the US at this time. The list below comes directly from the GW website. The fifth Bunker was the one at the Maryland HQ that closed in September of this year.

Games Workshop - Chicago Bunker 630-426-0120 Downers Grove
Games Workshop - Los Angeles Bunker 714-892-2973 Westminster
Games Workshop - Memphis Bunker 901-541-7700 Memphis
Games Workshop - Seattle Bunker 425-562-2300 Bellevue

Games Workshop Annapolis, Maryland in Jennifer Square Shopping Center will be participating in this Biggest Ever Apocalypse event on Jan. 22.

My battle report from thise event has 18 images in it and this forum is limited to 4 images per post, so I'll invite you to take a look at Loken's post-event thread over on Dakkadakk. It's filled with great pictures from the LA Bunker and I've posted my own little piece of 40K mayhem in there too. Here's the link (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/341925.page).

Well, The Big Game was a huge success and everyone had a blast. The game kicked off at 11am and ended at 11:30pm. What was really cool was how everyone had so many positive comments about the event and how much fun they had.

There were two tables. The first were 18 4' x 8' tables and two 4' x 6' tables setup in a 4-legged "M" shape. Then there were three 8' tables for the unpainted models.

The Records were blown away!

So here are the numbers...

Total painted points on one table 743,230

The previous record for the Biggest Apocalypse Game was 382,000 by Siegeworld

Total points on two tables 848,000

The previous record for the Biggest Apocalypse Battle was 520,000 by GMI games

All players submitted both registration forms and army lists. so we have back up for these records.

We are still working on the number of minis, as we didn't ask each player for that info in advance, so not everyone had that info readily available, but it is all on the army lists. So we are actually going through every army list to confirm these numbers. But so far, with only 315,280 points calculated, we had 6,971 miniatures, a record.

The L.A. Results

Well, what was amazing was how much fun everyone had. Even players getting their butts kicked were in a good mood and having fun. But in the end, the Imperial players bested the Xenos scum by 183 to 122.

World Wide Results

Next I will be calculating all the objective points from all the locations and posting battle reports and photos from different locations.

I'm sure everyone had fun - but that looks like a giant ClusterFsck.

We started limiting our apoc games to invite only at the LGS because the 120k per side battles only were able to go 3 rounds at the most and the people playing the game just didn't have a good time.

Dude, seriously, you not only just brought the level of public discourse way down, it appears you exploited your own spouse to do it for the sake of an attempted laugh from a bunch of anonymous strangers you can't even see. Incredibly disrespectful. You might want to think twice about that and edit that post to something more innocuous. Given the even lower level of comments one often sees on the Internet including game forums you are only inviting disaster.

The Big Game - Final Numbers

Well, it took me a few weeks after the Big Game all the numbers compiled and verified. I actually have an army list for every person who was at the L.A. Battle Bunker and confirmed their numbers, so the records are very accurate. We set every record that we were after. We kind of figured we would not beat the vehicle record, but I hear Siegeworld is after that this summer. So here are the numbers:

Los Angeles Battle Bunker

Total number of painted points on one table 739,247

(The previous record for the Biggest Apocalypse Game was 382,000 by Siegeworld)

Total number of models on two tables 864,057

(The previous record for the Biggest Apocalypse Battle was 520,000 by GMI games)

Total number of miniatures 18,592

(The previous record for the most minis in a Single Battle was 6,500 by Siegeworld)

Total number of vehicles 1,752 (Not a record)

World Wide

Total number of points at 22 locations in 5 countries 2,310,835 !!!

That is right, over TWO MILLION POINTS!

Check out the details on http://apocalypse40k.blogspot.com/
