Going off of a twitter post from a guy running a D&D game, who painted minis chrome to be a mirror party, I am exploring chrome spray paint.
I have a few concerns.
1. Can I paint over the metallic paint? Easily?
2. What to put with it, dark purple perhaps?
3. Any suggestions on what spray paint to use.
What I am looking for is a mirrored surface, but that I can paint over, without lots and lots of thin layers, I may just have to experiment. But I just wanted to ask and see if anyone had done something like this before.

If you could find someone who does spectra chrome you may be able to get what your looking for.

It's difficult to paint over most chrome spray paints. Your best bet is to use brush on primer on top of the chrome, but even that is pretty difficult.

I've recently been doing a lot of painting over chrome (see my avatar pic for an example! :p) What I've been using is plasti-kote Projekt paint, Brilliant mettalic. Not sure if this is availible where you are, or where you are for that matter, but its around £7 here in the UK.
I found the GW foundation paints cover it pretty well, as do the washes. Occasionally with the normal paints, and on rare occasion with the foundation paints as well, the surface tension of the paint will cause it to blob up rather than go down as an even coat. with the foundations i just let it dry and then did another coat, which usually did the trick. For the normal paints, I either did a foundation layer first, or I added a tiny drop of washing up liquid when I was mixing them on the pallet. Always required a few coats doing this, and some of the colours were a little off, but I got the end effect to look how I wanted.

I sprayed this sentinel with the Plasti-kote spray (not the best pic I know, but demonstrates my points). The black and brown camo patches are simple splotches of Gryphonne Sepia and Badab Black. As you can see, the washes take out the shine of the chrome more or less completely, but I guess ussing a gloss varnish would bring it back. All the other coloured areas had two coats of foundation paint or one coat and then normal paints over the top, with the exception of other metallic areas (don't think you can really see any from this angle) where the metallic was simply drybrushed on in a few laters. The autocannon wasn't sprayed with the chrome and is simply painted normally over a black undercoat.
Almost forgot to mention, the thing you are spraying needs to be exceptionally smooth. Any roughness at all to the surface will look like you've painted on Mithril Silver rather than giving you a chrome effect.

Thank you everyone. They have that plasti kote paint at local hardware stores. I'm going to get some and try it over winter break. Get some hormagaunt purple to paint over then try those edge highlights with warlock purple.
