Jwolf and Goatboy asked me to post these at least year's 40K alamo GT, but I never got around to doing it.

I stumbled on these one day at Hobby lobby while looking for other odds and ends for war gaming. They are decorative wooden balls made for god knows what and they cost about 12 to 14 dollars each.

Essentially, I just used a table saw to flatten one edge so that it sat flush on the table, "please don't try this with a hand saw or skill saw", cutting a spherical object is not very stable, and could lead to injury.

I then primed it white, painted the carapace section astro grey, and then gave it a blue wash. I used gripon sepia for the interior sections over white. Both colors needed 2 thick coats to achieve the affect.

After everything dried I then sprayed it down with a high gloss polyurethane coat to give it that slimy look.

Here is the flat edge I was talking about.

Now here is another one I did for marine drop pods. I don't recommend taking these to a tournament, but if you are just experimenting with a drop pod army, these are to scale so you can see if that $35.00 investment is worth it.

Basically, its just 2 peices of PVC pipe I got from home depot. 3 or 4 inch pipes if I remember correctly. I then painted it with blue spray paint and then printed out a a flag I saw online and glued it to the thing. Total cost of the project was like 10 bucks with the spray paint and I got 3 pods out of the deal.

I like the pvc drop pods. Very inexpensive substitute. If painted correctly, they really are not bad looking.

And that's not even considering the various card heatshields and bitz you can glue on. Great idea, I may have to come up with a reason for my Guard to have these just for the awesome-factor.
