I am going to get this http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1860243

and put one of these in the middle of it http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1252408_99120101010_SMLandraidermain_445x319.jpg

then put loads of sponsons down the side of it because:

- I want a original super heavy
- I've seen similar projects that look cool
- I imagine it'll be really fun to use in my Marine army.

So what would it be for, where would it come from, whats special about it, how many are there, what is it good at, what is it weak at, i'd like fluff ideas and as yet i'm a blank slate!!!!

cheers

Charlie

This website may give you some ideas about a Space Marine Super-heavy.

http://s15.invisionfree.com/The_Great_Crusade/ar/t252.htm

During the Horus Heresy they did have a Shadowsword version called the Falchion, which may be a good start. But your project really could be anything: A relic from the Horus Heresy, a plunder of war from a rebel forgeworld, some bit of technology left over from the Age of Darkness. Your imagination is the limit here.

Also, does it transport troops, is it a self propelled piece of artillery, a rolling heavy armed fortress, or all of the above?

One thing I would suggest though is to plan out the model thoroughly so that it doesn't look just like a Land Raider glued to a Shadowsword. Make sure all the elements work together and in the end you'll have a very unique vehicle.

I'm thinking "rolling heavy armed fortress" so far not self propelled artillery.

I'd wait until this guy releases his conversion kit. It'd probably be the same cost/cheaper than a whole Land Raider, and it would look better too. I can't see a Land Raider/Baneblade kitbash looking like anything other than an Ork vehicle.

Hopefully that will be around Thanksgiving :)

Charlie, what legion/chapter are you building it for?

My boys are a DIY chapter.

largely Independent Chapter do a nice side line in looking for the Sensei if you can remember that old fluff.

They have Mark 6 Beaky Helmets, black armour.

I've seen conversions of landraiders and Baneblades by google image searching and they look pretty cool.

There are lots of Dreadnoughts.....I could make the superheavy a Dreadnought assualt vehicle????

Capacity 5 Dreds then mabye a load of sponsons????

Cheers

No reason you can't, although you'd need a vehicle capable of carrying 50 troops (if I remember right a dreadnought is equivalent to 10 troops for transport). Not sure what advantage that would give you in battle. That's a lot of points to have in one vehicle.

One super heavy space marine conversion I'd like to do (and may very well at some point) was to build the Black Templar super-heavy seen in the background of the old John Blanche painting. It looked like a cross between a Baneblade and Land Raider...but bigger :)

This thing is starting to sound like a Capitol Imperialis to me. That can carry, what four Leman Russes and a whole company of IG?

Well the Space Marine Legions may have had those too ;) That would be the ultimate super-heavy project :D
