Now with the Codex released to the masses and the plethora of forum threads on the interwebs with lits and builds and unit breakdowns. I'm wondering how many people that own the codex upon first receiving
their copy actualy read the pages of lore. More importantly I'm interested in what are peopls thoughts on the codex form a lore/fluff perspective as prior to this there was little if any info out there when the 3rd ed dex came out.

I am reading a page or two every night before I go to bed, and at the moment I am at the Wargear section...

My response to the fluff we now have? My pants have asploded. 'Nuff said.

I think the codex captured the look and feel of the dark Eldar perfectly. Even the units have fluff descriptions which include their abilities and weapons. That is just so cool on sooooo many levels.

The old book had a single story of Vect taking over an entire hive city. The new book is crammed full of stories on how the Dark Eldar are capable of taking over entire planets. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

While the fluff is dedicated to do only one thing--emphasize just how evil and amoral the dark eldar are, the author did a superb job at it.

Holy hells, do the DE make Chaos look like a knitting circle in comparison.

As long as the knitting circle eventually summons a devil from hell to take over a hive city...

What knitting circle doesn't do that sort of thing?

I'm very impressed with the Codex. The fluff really gives you a sense of what the Dark Eldar are made of, and it ties all of the units together.

What's striking is that, unlike a Space Marine Codex where everything in the Codex falls under the same army force, a Dark Eldar raiding force is made up of covens, cults, gangs, and kabals that put aside their differences to essentially go farming together. Farming for souls and whatnot, but farming nonetheless, and they do it in harmony without so much worry of backstabbing. In other words, when the Dark Eldar are at home, they let themselves fall into this sort of controlled anarchy where schemes and plots are the name of the game, but when they go into a realspace raid, they become a different beast entirely.

I also like the little spices of humor they throw in there, like references to perfect your own evil laugh!

I just love the fact that Fabius Bile got tutored in the dark arts of torture from the Heamonculi.

Sweet....

I read it cover to cover when I received it, and I've gone over the fluff a few times since. It really is a superb effort, with little things like the Haemonculi on Fenris and the Wych cults going 'nid hunting just adding so much flavour to the Dark Eldar. Fiercesst, most loyal Space Marines? Devolve them for lulz. Huge tyranid critters that make the Ordo Xenos soil themselves in fear? Stick them in a box like a naughty kitten* and take it home to play with.

*I do not endorse sticking kittens in boxes, or taking them to Commoragh to fight in the arena.

That's awesome.

Actually reminds me of a scene from Heroes Die by Matthew Stover, where one of the secondary good guys gets captured by the bad guys. He's then used as a subject of Torture Theory 101 by a bunch of up-and-coming interrogators.

Excellent book, btw. I'ts like classic sci-fi 1984-style dystopia meets Conan the Barbarian. And it's as awesome as it sounds. Anyone who isn't too overly squiked out by having a character's leg cut open and a bunch of insect larva sewn inside should definitely check it out. And even if you don't like that stuff, it's still a fantastic book and you should read it. Kinda hard to find, though. Probably have to order it off Amazon.

I read the fluff first. I love the rise of Vect to power, and how he deals with traitors...Don't like me? Well i'll crash a flaming imperial battleship on your palace. Allyed with demons? Well i'll look you in your palace with them. Genius

I like how they've alluded to in some places that the oldest DE, and those passed actually planned the Fall...

The fluff is just perfect, their realm really feels like an actual place now. And the fluff is awesome. Especially the Space Wolves, Tau and Rise of Vect bits. Ouch those guys are evil!
