So, for our Iron Kingdoms RPG group, I'm pretty much always in charge of the minis.
We've started up an Epic Level Campaign, in which we'll be fighting against some Dragons (and in IK, they all have to be massive Forge-World sized minis).
So, I could have bought a $500 Forge World dragon or $200 on the Wizards of the Coast dragon. But instead, I went ahead and picked up a $20-$30 resin dragon from an Asian gift store at our local mall. After basing and repainting her, I think she turned out pretty well:

Oh my god, why did I not think of those stores?
This is as much of a revelation as when I went into Petsmart and realized that the aquarium isle is basically full of cheap good 40k terrain.
Looks great. I doubt anyone will be able to tell it's not from a miniatures company. I think I may have to do this myself.

To be fair, he is a much more flawed mini than any resin or pewter dragon you're likely to find. He clearly wasn't meant to be examined up close or painted by someone who has any idea what they're doing.
That's true of most repainting, though. Even when the original mini was a mini. You kind of have to cover up flaws when you're painting them.

Be that as it may, it still looks great and is, what, 90% cheaper than buying the wizards collosal red dragon (http://www.amazon.com/Colossal-Dragon-Dungeons-Dragons-Icons/dp/0786941685)? Even then, I've never been impressed with the detail quality on D&D minis. Sure, you're dragon is worse than FW, but I imagine it's comparable to wizards.
Love the stripes on the repaint, by the way. That's one detail I'd love to swipe if I do my own.

Where the detail is sculpted, it is sculpted well. Better than the Wizards of the Coast minis, even.
The real trouble is that there are a number of spots where the sculptor got lazy (or underpaid) and just kind of threw some putty on the mini to call it done.
The underbelly is pretty bad. You can't really see it in my pics, and you can barely see it in person since I mounted this guy on a base, but the detail down there is pretty bad.
By the way, I have scale pics now:

NEWS! I found out the name of the company that makes these dragons.
I went back to the little store, but they only had a tag that said "Made in China" on the dragons. However, when they sell them, they put them into boxes that say "GSC" on them.
I haven't yet found out what the GSC stands for, but I found that they make quite a few Dragon Statues.
Here are a few of them. (http://www.nextag.com/gsc-dragon-figurine/shop-html)
Also, I figured I could post up a few pics of dragons to give you an idea of what he looked like before I painted him:
