SPACE LIONS! Custom chapter help

So if you have read my blog you would know that I am currently working on my new custom chapter the space lions or to give them their proper name "The Lions of Caliban" well at this point in time I have some ideas that I would like your opinion on so here they are :D


Secondary founding from the dark angels
Use of High elf chariot lions for mounts
Thunder lion cavalry
Lists can be easily changed to use any of the marine codex's
They focus more on Johnson's time on Caliban and his knight order
Believe they have redeemed them selves of the taint left from the fallen
Helps the dark angels hunt down the fallen for the hell of it


I have yet to test out a thunder lion cavalry model but hope to attempt one soon..
So what do you think? Have any ideas you care to share? or should I just take up dark eldar like everyone else..

Its a nice idea, but the 2 points I quoted above are somewhat contradictory.
Perhaps if they aid the dark angels out of respect for the primarch, and want to erradicate any trace of those who betrayed him.

The lion calvary is a good idea, but to be perfectly honest 've never been fond of the idea of using one marine codex as a stand in for another. Not to say you can't its just my personal preference... take that how you will.

I'd definately go with the proper name for the knightly order, it just sounds better. Space Lions is a little too close to Space Wolves.

How was you planning on modelling the troops? the knights had power armour, but it was a very primitive form...

Space lions was just a stand in tell I came up with something better.

I am gona go with the out of respect of Lion el Johnson idea..

My idea is to use alot of forge world pre heresy armour but I want to do a practice model first..

That would look pretty cool, do you have any experience in cleaning the resin casts from forgeworld? If not, make a small order so you can find out what works for you, but either way, you'll not be able to paint them until they are cleaned as the removal agent they use to get them out of the mold is oil based and doesn't play nice with acrylic paint.

Great idea, have been considering doing that my self.
But I am right now doing High Elves count as Dragon knights mounted on Lions in my fantasy army, still need 4-6 lions to complete them.

Why did you do a DIY chapter rather than use the Celestial Lions? They are almost a DIY chapter but with cannon and they hate the ][ to boot?

The Celestial Lions are not quite the same thing as the Knights of Caliban.

nice work,simple but effective,I did some reserch on this idea at the Heresey site a fare while ago But instead of thunder wolf cav,just wanted to make mega terminator armour with the lion heads as pads,Or slap the Lions on the side of a custom HQ raider and use punisher cannons to represent hurricane bolters on the sponsons.

The Huron (pre traitor) model is cool too but I was thinking a Psycannon instead of a heavy flamer.Represented by an assault cannon to tie in all the "Gattling weaponry".
Primary White and silver/gold=trimn the "White Lions" a puritan force as upposed to the tratorous Celestial lions/Astral claws.
Or REX KRIEGER = Kings of War = War Kings something like that,
a play on the lion being king of the animal kingdom.

nice plan. personally i'm a fan of the multiple codex marine custom chapter deal. I'm doing the same thing, more bang for your buck. Keep up the good work.

@Sebi81 thats exactly what I am going for lool...did you have to make the lion bigger useing pining and green stuff for him?
@Vaddok Sek they are awesome I love Scibor Miniatures so much :D I will also invest in some chapter studio lion tactical shoulder pads.

@Mobynick meh not to big a man of them and it wouldnt really work with my dark angel/caliban fluff

not much conversion work needed to make the lion fit. i built three lion riders and a lionlord. just cut the legs of the marines and put them together so they can sit on the lions back. pic of the three riders and my lionguard built fom sanguinary guard:

Hexx...fair enough, I tried to do CL but struggled to get the colors to work...and i can't paint a convincing lion to save my life :D.
