As we at Apocalypse40K.com try and work towards a cohesive rule set for World Record Apocalypse games, we need (http://www.apocalypse40k.com/) to enforce the "fully painted" rule. Can you all define this per 40K rules. I can't find where "Fully Painted" is defined.

Specifically what is required of bases? I went to a recent huge game and noticed that many models didnt have any paint on the bases, and I wouldn't consider that "Fully Painted".

Thanks!

Alec

I'm going to a double tournie soon that enforces bases must be painted, even flying (clear plastic bases). This annoys me a bit as i like to keep em clear. Dunno how common clear bases are, but for a painted army, bases must be painted (or least decorated)

As for the models themselves the most common "painted" rule thats used around here is 3 colours. So a base coat and 2 highlights/details etc

It's typical that "fully painted" means three colors. It doesn't need to be a finished model per se, just basecoated with at least 3 different colors (plenty of people never do more than basecoat anyway).

My biggest pet peeve is when people require clear plastic bases to be painted or flocked. I had to flock all of mine and then peel the flock off later because I thought it looked terrible. Clear bases are meant to stay clear.

For bases, it's hard to define exactly, but they should look finished, or like some effort was put into them. I saw a poor bloke at one tournament who had these really cool varnished wooden bases with designs carved into them, and every base had a name and rank on it. But . . . they weren't flocked, so he was initially disqualified until someone beat some common sense into the judge. They were beautiful bases, and he had one of the best looking armies there. Probably the best way to define proper basing is "Something other than plain out-of-the-box bases, with the exception of clear flying bases."

normally, "fully painted" requires at least 3 colours on a model, and based. can't quote a rulebook quote, but thats what our local competitions require, and my local GW stores like to see these minimum standards too.

If anyone gives you attitude about clear flying bases just point to the GW site and the new Dark Eldar. All the flying bases are clear.

Fully painted - 3 Colors.

Example...

1) Space Marine based black.

2) Armor painted blue.

3) Weapons painted silver.

That is what a 'fully' painted model is comprised of - 3 different colors.

When they say based all they mean is the model is attached to a suitable base for the miniature, as for decoration, there is no offical ruling, some events have their own rules on base decoration which is just asinine in my opinion.

And as for painted, as already pointed out, 3 colours, doesn't matter where, how neat or what paint is used... just 3 different colours.

The three color rule used to be in the RT tournament rules set that GW would send out with their tournament kits, so 3 color was offical for the longest time.

It's more of a courtesy now for "painted" to mean 3 color since the RT circuit is no more.

As to bases, yeah, that's a schmuck there saying your clear base has to be painted. They could be enforcing that because they know most people won't do it, and their "friends" will so they can will "all around" if there is a category like that. I 've seen that happen with other rules.

I am very clear on what 3 colors means, and I have no problem with clear bases, that is not an issue.

With figure bases then would just a single coat of black paint be acceptable? I don't think flocking needs to be required, but then again it does look significantly better!

flocking isn't a requirement, nor is any paint on the base at all... however most people paint their minis at least partially while they are attached to a base so some overlap onto the base is not uncommon... painting the bases black will make them look nearet, but should be, by no means, a pre-requsit.

Single color, cohesive to army/unit is generally a good plan for a minimum paint job. I do single color top with the side different based on the army. Flocking/ornament is something I put off until completed totally.

If your planning on going to a specific event then your best bet is to speak to the organisers and find out what their defination is.
