View Full Version : Resource list (Bits , Ready Made Bases, Tutorials)

I decided to start compiling a resource list (Updated 12/01!) starting with some of the resources I use in my commission work. I realized after a bit, that I did a lot of frustrating searching, looking for a particular GW bit (I don't like to purchase the whole box for one single bit, unless it's less expensive to do so), or trying to find someone that made a specific part I needed for a model.I also, from time to time, hit an impasse over what a particular miniature is missing, so I like to go through several sites and just browse, to see if something particular jumps out. I have sooo many different sources I use for inspiration, parts, and resources, and I wanted to share my list in hopes it might inspire some creativity in others :)
Enjoy :)
If you've got someone to add, send me a message. I'll keep updating it periodically, and have incorporated the list into my website as well. Just send me a message with the Name of Person/Store, Website, and any info you'd care to give me. I'll try to work my way through, site by site, order something from them (if I haven't already) and give an objective review of it. I'll also credit anyone at the bottom who sends in ideas that I add to the list.

Current Listings of:
GW Bits
Non GW Bits
GW Bits Stores on ebay
Sculptors
Ready Made Bases (Resin and Metal)
Tutorials
If you choose to publish this list elsewhere all I ask is to please credit myself, and/or my website (www.redstickstudio.weebly.com (http://www.redstickstudio.weebly.com)).
Before responding to this post, please read the following:
I am NOT ENDORSING any of the sites I have listed, I am simply taking the time to collect it in one area. Please don't insult or verbally degrade sites that I've started to collect for this ongoing project. Each site has it's own place and reason for being there, as I take the time to research each site and put them into the proper category.

Nice. A comprehensive list of that sort would be helpful.
You might want to take a look at some of those links, they aren't working. It looks like "redstickstudio.wordpress.com/2010/10/08/resources/" is stuck to the front of the external URLs when it shouldn't be.

Thanks for pointing that out :) links shoudl all work, please do let me know if something doesn't work any longer or someone is no longer in business...things of that nature.
I'll do my best to try and keep this updated and keep adding to it. Anyone who's got info that they'd like me to add, please email me with it!

TheBitzBarn,
I haven't ever used your website for bits :) Exclusion on this list is not meant to offend anyone. It is a list that will be ongoing in an attempt to offer as much of a resource as possible.
This list started with what I've used in the past, and wanted to add to it as I got info from others of who they use ( or those that have stores, websites with tutorials, etc)
Thanks for letting me know about your site. I will check it out and add you in the appropriate spot.

Sorry for the delay to anyone who has sent me information for this ongoing project. I had to fly up to my father's due to the untimely death of my mom at the beginning of September, to help get affairs wrapped up and finalized. I will be back in to the studio by October 24 and resume my blogging and projects at hand.
If you have any suggestions for additions to the list, feel free to email me at
[email protected], and I'll work on adding things to it as soon as I return.
Thanks!

resin bases, conversion bits

Dragonforge has some of the highest quality resin bases out there, with super clean edges and great detail. Another good one is Miicro Art Studio (http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/). And Champ Industries (http://www.champindustries.net/bases.html) makes two different kinds of plastic scenic bases that are inexpensive and easy to use with your plastic model.

Thank you for the add on. I got MAS ( I've used their bases a lot..lol) But didn't know about Champ Industries. I'll add that one to the next update. I haven't used a good deal of the resources I've been adding, but I'm trying to get a solid compilation of resources we could all use.
Thanks again :)

Thank you firedancer. So noted, and will be added into the update I'll be doing today. Credit given to you on the bottom of the post, of course, unless you prefer not!
Thank you to everyone who's sent me messages and information to add to this. I am hoping that I can create a comprehensive list of resources for all. I am going to start working my way through all the retailers and doing a mini review of their products too, if I've already used them. If some of the new ones have something useful, I'm going to try and start ordering a bit here and there to try out their products.
Thanks again!
