So after having put on heavy bolter sponsons onto my Leman Russes, it has come to my attention that quite often, I will NOT want them. Rather than ripping them off and hoping I don't screw up the model, I was thinking of creating some sort of "cover" that looks like a canvas sheet wrapped around the gun itself. sort of a dust cover while the gun is not being used. Maybe the gun is out of ammo or something. I figured that would be a good approximation of "removed" sponson without have to pull the thing off, add magnets, repaint etc.

Has anybody done or seen anything like this?
thanks,

Chris

i've seen hard covers that are meant to look like regular tank armour plates (that didn't work so well), but a canvas cover ought to be a bit more effective... if you can pull it off.

I would consider using some sort of paper mache approach. I have seen guides on this using paper towels (looks like canvas when painted) or medical gauze (looks like camo netting when painted) , dipped in watered down white glue and molded in shape over wherever it is supposed to go.

Magnets are easier than it seems and work really well. I use them on all my LR sponsons.
