how does this sound

High Elf prince 487 points.
Sun Dragon
Armour of Caledor (2+ Dragon Armour, Immune to all fire)
Vambraces of Defense (4+ Ward save, Reroll armour saves)
The Amulet of Light (Bearer and unit attacks are Magical)
Great Weapon

The Great weapon gives me a strength 6 that allways strikes first. 2+ rerollable armour save and immune to fire with a nice 4+ ward save. Plus all his and the dragons attacks are now Magical.

so what do you think

The biggest problem I see with him is that he is on a dragon, lol! In 8th edition fantasy, that lvl 4 archmage you can have for the same points of a dragon is almost infinitely better! That dragon is very hard to protect and is a very heavy points sink that can be one shottted pretty easily. The armor and ward save combo with a great weapon is about the best choice for a prince out there, but there are easier ways of making his attacks magical! The biggest strength from a Prince should be in his ability to Anchor down a battle line for the rest of your High Elf Units. He should be in the middle of your main combat unit, giving his LD10 To as much of the army as possible when it matters! Dragons are cool, but a foot prince and a lvl 4 mage are WAY better in this edition!

Yeah Dragons are a waste of points now with the rules updated, along with dragon armour (now a 2+ ward save against flaming attacks)

Go for your prince on foot with a nice unit to protect him with, like a unit of Phoenix guard, drop the Amulet of light and get a magic weapon (same thing but with more punch) and watch him chop his way thro most things infront of him
