Could do with a hand naming 7 Chimera. Looking to use name like though given to ww2 US bombers like Miss Dolly (http://picsdigger.com/image/c22ac0fb/) but "Dolly" don't really sound like a name for a Chimera transport.

Now got all 7, feed back?

Brief Time (command chimera)
Ain't miss behaving (chimera)
Dirty Girl (chimera)
miss adventure (command chimera) nice one
Dawn Brakes (Chimera)
Hope Springs (Chimera)
Commissar's Ire (Command Chimera)

How are we supposed to know what to name your tanks when we haven't even seen them? How about naanoo naanoo, or blaa blaa boo boo? WTF? Give us something...

They're Chimera's! Go to the GW site if you'd like to see what they look like.

@ OP: the Gaunt's Ghost novels Necropolis and Honour Guard both feature Armoured Companies, which give tons of names for tanks.

As for styles of names:
Pride/Glory/Wrath/Hammer/etc. of [name of home planet/regiment/important character]
Lion/Bear/Wolf/etc. of [name of home planet/regiment/important character]

Comin' At Ya, Fully Loaded, Hear Me Roar, Gunnin' For Ya, Rolling Thunder

Iron Maiden, Big Bertha

if i may, i believe he means the "WTF" comment and tone of the posts considering you've only had a few and no one here knows you yet, so harsh joking just comes off as harsh. Tone can be tricky in posts, and unfortunately smiley's don't make everything better.

@OP i've themed my names for tanks with the fluff of my RG successor chapter. so there are things that have to do with the homeworld, and characters from their fluff. What's the regiment or fluff info for your IG guys? any significant wars they've been in? or accomplishments each tank has made? Those kind of things can make each a little more personal and then you can customize them a bit.

or like Leelo mentioned if the idea is your IG are more of a faceless mass and their vehicles aren't as treasured if you will bc they originate from a death world or somewhere that attrition tactics are used, like Death Korps or Tanith First and Only, then simple numbers or designations along those lines would make sense. But all in all i tend to think it's a fluff thing, bc you don't want inconsistencies between vehicle names and\or your units.

No, but that will be the name I put on my Steam Tank.

"Arbitrator of Trolls"

My Land Raider Crusader that I'm working on just became "Arbitrator of Souls"

And therealjohnny5 has it pretty much nailed as to why I was stating that. Welcome to BoLS. Lose the attitude.

Thanks, Johnny5.

It's tough joining a new site. Lots of peeps want to smack you down. Don't know why...

In any case, given my reception, I think I'm out.

Peace!

Yes, it is. And one should gauge the demeanor between others before jumping into conversations. Using a tone to call one out on pictures and more info in the manner you did was completely in appropriate.

Something more to the effect of "Hey, can we see some pics of them to help draw on some inspriration for names?" might have been more in order than WTF?

very cool of you bro. BoLS really is full of cool peeps, we all are pretty opinionated and such, (all geeks unite!) and we've all been called out for poor tone or getting too heated in a debate on female space marines (i think that thread got locked yeah? lol) and such, so thanks for taking it in stride. Hopefully you'll hang around and give everyone here a chance. there's a lot of good stuff to share and learn and it's great having such a diverse group to pick each others brains. :D

British bombers during the war were designated a call sign based on Letters.

You'd have A for Apple, B for Broadsword etc etc

Thats a nice simple system

I plan on naming all of my IG tanks as well.

In my case they will all have Cartoon or Sesame Street Character names.

Big Bird = Deathstrike

Oscar = Hellhound
Cookie Monster

Yakko, Wakko, and Dot = Sentinel squadron
Huey, Dewey, and Louie = Sentinel squadron

Bunbun = superheavy tank or ordinatus

Marvin (the mars pattern) = Leman Rus
Daffy
Elmer

I'll try to keep squadrons of tanks within the same series or creator.

Info on the regiment: The world the regiment comes from, career paths are chosen at birth using arcane means of schismatic et. Leaving the Hives on foot is as good as suicide, as if the plant life does not get you 'something' else will.
The vehicles are loved by the those that use them, from the main battle tanks to the transports and fliers. Before joining the IG (age 16-21), the regiments start as (age 8) PDF, and will take those vehicles and equipment they had from that time. All vehicles would be named from the time that the PDF leaves the wall and starts purges (age 14).

This particular regiment, is a Pioneer unit. Unlike what is currently recognised as 'pioneers' they are usually in the advance following the recon' units, clearing designated areas of enemy, booby traps and making the area ready for the follow on regiments. They are all rounders and engineers.

Known vehicle names.

Big Bad Betsy (Malador)
Lady FUBAR (Malador)

Brief Time (HQ Chimera)
Nasty lil Natylee (Chimera)
Ain't Miss Behaving (Chimera)
Miss Adventure (HQ Chimera)

Bertram Wilberforce Ermm, maybe if I was doing a chaos force. Bloody Bob? Come on! A bit more effort, I am going to try and put some art to names and bloody bob lacks inspiration.

Ok, new one. Whats peoples thoughts on Reaper Man, or should I save that for one of my Senitnels?

Shoots down Bloody Bob but suggests Reaper Man.:P

I'm just teasing.:) You really have three ways to go; the cliched (things like Miss Adventure), the pretentious (things like Reaper of Souls or Bringer of Woe To All Who Behold Its Awesome Might) and the silly (Bloody Bob).

I recommend going pretentious and/or silly personally, fit in with the Imperiums hyperbolic gothic character in my opinion.

Anyways, 'silly' is hard to do art for.

I dont believe its ethical to name all your tanks and not call one of them Betsy.

Its a law, or an old charter or something.

I love creative tank names. Here's the ones I use.

Leman Russ MBT 1 & 2: Pearly and Lucile (I like using girls' names)
Leman Russ MBT 3: El Tigre (tiger-stripe paint scheme)
Demolisher: Oddball
Basilisk: Mulligan

Oddball and Mulligan are references to the film Kelly's Heroes.

Once a tank is painted and named, I find that it tends to live longer. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon?
